This particularly seems odd: Tony Bennett, the evening's first performer, recounted other recent big-name deaths in the music industry. "First it was Michael Jackson, then Amy Winehouse, now the magnificent Whitney Houston. Let's legalize drugs, like Amsterdam, it's a very sane city now."

Um... Wow! lol

Maybe he said it, maybe he didn't. He seems to have all the filters off. Or he's suffering from dimentia. He got tons of shit for his comments when he was on the Howard Stern Show last fall. lol

Poor Tony... lol I remembered that controversy...

where did you hear that andy? Give me your source, I want to see it. sad if true. I'm watching her last oprah interview, gosh how can you not like her? she's so funny and cute. Feel bad for her, doesn't seem very sharp or even diva like. Must be a lot of pressure living up to diva standards because she absolutely had diva talent.

Just from reading this thread. If you scroll the previous pages, you'll see several posts from people about her body still being in the building while a party is going on downstairs. That's just plain out sorry and trifling as hell that a party can't be interrupted to get a body out.....even hers. Lord knows the party probably ain't about shit anyway.

ease up mate. we get that you're not a fan but have a bit of respect.

...shall we go back?...let's go

I have to ask why does the I'm Your Baby Tonight album get shit on so much? it got awful reviews from critics. And even is not highly regarded by many Whitney fans.....

Idk why, after re-listening to it, the production by Babyface & co is great, sure it's dated but who cares?

And the lyrics deal with some serious subjects this time around, and people always bitched about her doing nothing but love songs. She took on some deeper material and people still where not happy? lol lord

Production was fine. It was the songs and image that were weak, for the most part.

Far too often when something bad happens, the black guy gets blamed. Whitney Houston was trying to please too many people, specifically trying to "keep it real" when she should have walked away from a whole host of rats. Why did Clive Davis have her singing "popular" music in the first place when it was beneath her? If white industry suits didnt aggressively market, and endorse the culture of trash she'd still be breathing and that aint got nothing to do with Bobby Brown.

With all due respect, dont pull the race card on this. This aint the time nor the place. Whitney was a grown-ass woman, and she made poor decisions along the way (as we all tend to from time to time). Maybe you're right when you say the (ahem) "White Industry Suits" (nice avatar by the way) DO market a trash culture, but Bobby is to blame for Whitney's downfall, and you are in fucking denial if you disagree.

With all due respect in one breath you say Whitney was a grown ass woman, in the next you blame Bobby. I think this is what the other posters were trying to bring out. Some of us on the East Coast knew of Whitney before she became WHITNEY. Bobby was a pothead.....Whitney did hard drugs. Her addiction and decline had nothing to do with him and everything to do with her, and people continuing to blame him for her decline are in denial as to who she really was.

Some stupid, insensitive post I saw on Facebook: disbelief

All of this "RIP Whitney Houston" statuses are fucking ridiculous. There are so many people who have no idea who she is, but then post this, just because "she was a legendary artist!!!" Yes, she was, her voice and music were both wonderful. But does that change the fact that you have no idea who the hell she is, and don't really care? No. It does not, my friends, it does not. As an added note, the death of one is a tragedy, the death of one million is a statistic.

I don't think it's stupid or insensitive. It's dour and pessimistic but what the author is saying

is cogent.

Look, the only reason why we care about her and her death (for the next couple of days) is

because she was famous. She was famous because our society has decided to place a premium

on vocal talent. Ours is a society that is celebrity-centric and death is the one great human

unifier. So, put two and two together and you get an outpouring of situational grief.

I say it's situational grief because although it's real grief, it's momentary and the feelings of

grief are detached from any personal sense of loss; none of you knew Houston intimately.

So while I disagree with "RIP Whitney Houston" statuses as being "ridiculous," understand that

our collective grief is probably manufactured. If Whitney Houston was your momma, I bet

the farm that you would not be on Prince.org or Facebook giving RIP statuses.

For example, there has been no word from Bobbi Kristina. This is because she knew Houston

intimately and her grief is personal. Stans, er, fans, are getting hyped because it's news and

exciting to discuss the demise of a dead celebrity.

I'm at fault too cos the first thing I did was say "Oh! I gotta go post at the org."

I'm still shocked and at a loss of words. I heard on CNN that Bobby couldn't even finish performing with N.E. and had to walk offstage.

I never really cared much for her personal life and I always hoped that she would get her voice back. She really had a God given talent and had her own style.

From one New Jerseyean to another, may you R.I.P. Whit.

If it was just a regular person staying in the hotel, would it be a problem? The hotel wasn't giving their money back, I'm sure food and drivers weren't either. Why not go ahead as planned the best you can?

Weird? yes but you're in Hollywood...

I never really know what to think when death's like this happen. On one end I'm happy her music will be everywhere and her iconic status reaches new heights but I also hate the phoniness and all the supposed "fans" coming out the woodwork acting like they gave two cents. Elvis, Michael, Amy, and now Whitney. Where was everybody when they were crying for help?

I remember seven years ago when I couldn't even utter Michael's name without a chuckle, a slick comment, nobody wanted to be bothered...now everyone loves him. Human nature pisses me the hell off.

See, hypocrisy on the highest level , and an ugly human nature in most people , they don’t start appreciate someone until they are gone…….why?

There will never be another whitney houston , I'm just heartbroken that she's gone sad

Another one taken down by drugs .. vulture enablers.Sad she couldnt stop using. If you havent experienced drug addiction its a bitch to get out of especially if the people around you cater to your weakness it takes a herculian effort to quit on your own. To have it all n have an addictive personality trait i mean if u loved drugs n u had all the money in the world ud be knee deep in it w/out blinkin an eye, n it would eventually catch up to you. Im pissed she did that to herself n all those moguls, friends family her child couldnt stop her, damn her monkey was def a silver back on her back.

Remembers watchin Elvis's funeral on tv n remembering how pissed i was to hear it was drugs .. That sad numb feeling again damn i hate it.

As I was flipping channels Friday night I happened to catch some of Fashion Police and Joan Rivers was especially nasty about Whitney, not just because of what she was wearing but she also mocked Whitney's voice which I think was crossing the line. I'll never understand how some people can make a career out of trashing others shake

RIP Whitney, I'll remember you from the early days and your I Wanna Dance With Somebody video will always be my favorite.

It wasn't just a bad dream

NOOOOOOOO

So devastating. We will always love you Whitney, R.I.P.

WE ARE LOSING ALL OF OUR LEGENDS ... TRUE MUSIC ARTIST THAT HAVE CREATED THE STANDARD OF MUSIC AS WE KNOW IT TODAY... REST IN HEAVEN ..

Very sad news about Whitney. My heart and prayers go out to her daughter and family.

R.I.P. Whitney Houston, really can't believe this

RIP Whitney Houston. Sending my love and deepest condolences to her family and friends. Fly Whitney Fly

So so sad about Whitney Houston. All my love goes out to Bobbi Kristina.
