I feel like they should have made note that it was prior to Whitneys passing like they did with Michael on some of the broadcasts that still were aired..

It is a bit tacy to leave it up for misinterpretation

Interesting because Houston was also religious (and so was MJ).

I think it boils down to that MJ and Houston were drug addicts and Prince and Madonna

were not.

Michael didn't die because he was drug addict. He died because his quack doctor put him to sleep.

Not to get off topic, but he died because he was a drug addict who went doctor shopping and hired a quack doctor to put him to sleep. A lot.

'I wasn't expecting Whitney to take the stage, but she came up,' friend and R&B singer Kelly Price tells MTV News before Houston was found dead.

By Kelley L. Carter, with reporting by Kelly Marino

Saturday morning (February 11) at a pre-Grammy brunch, R&B singer Kelly Price talked up her friend and collaborator Whitney Houston, telling MTV News that reports of her friend being anything but OK were erroneous. Later that afternoon, her friend had died at age 48.

"I honestly don't know what all the craziness is about," Price told us at the time. "We partied so hard, we all looked a mess when we walked out of the club. But that's a good party. You sweat. You do that."

Price was talking about another pre-Grammy event in her honor, where Houston had performed Thursday night. MTV News has obtained exclusive video from that performance, reported to be Houston's last.

"When I was approached about doing a Grammy celebration party for me, I actually said I would love to do it," Price told MTV News about Thursday's event. "I invited a bunch of friends, Whitney Houston among them. ... All of my friends came out. They performed. They performed for free. It was an amazing night. My band was there. It ended up being an all-out jam session."

Price continued, "I wasn't expecting Whitney to take the stage, but she came up. She got on the stage, and while I was talking to her, she grabbed the microphone and started singing. So that's kind of cool."

Tragically, Houston was found dead later Saturday. She was reportedly found at the Beverly Hilton, where a party thrown by her mentor, Clive Davis, is planned for Saturday night.

Whitney Houston's Untimely Death Shocks Hip-Hop

Sowmya Krishnamurthy

Superstar Whitney Houston's death today has had a surreal effect on hip-hop. Although Houston was known for pop and R&B ballads "I Will Always Love You" and "I'm Every Woman" from The Bodyguard soundtrack to the dance staple "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," her music and artistry have left an indelible mark on hip-hop. Legions of famous fans took to Twitter to share their sadness.

Diddy, who shared a mutual mentor in music impresario Clive Davis with Whitney, tweeted, "Whitney Houston!!! OMG!! I really can't believe this.. This is one of the saddest days ever.." UGK's Bun B sent love for Whitney and her family, "Incredible talent. Tragic downfall. Prayers for Miss Cissy and her daughter Bobbi. #RIPWhitney."

Wu-Tang's Raekwon shared, "I can't believe I'm hearing this new [sic] about the great whitney houston! r.i.p may she rest in peace" and added "My moms loves that lady," showing just how far-reaching and cross-generational Whitney's talent really was.

Earlier today, reports surfaced that Whitney Houston died suddenly in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton Hotel at the age of 48. Her representative Kristin Foster confirmed the singer's passing. Further details on the cause of death remain unknown.

Houston, the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston and the late John Houston, was discovered by Arista Records honcho Clive Davis in the early-1980s and he would go on to guide her career to the tune of 170 million albums sold. The iconic singer's hit songs — from "The Greatest Love of All" to "I Will Always Love You" — are now radio staples and firmly entrenched in the pop music canon.

Her influence can be heard on a generation of young singers who cite her as an inspiration, from Mariah Carey, Brandy and Monica to Christina Aguilera and Beyonce.

But Houston was dogged by her demons. In a 2009 interview with Oprah Winfrey she detailed the years of addiction and the toll they had taken on her personal and professional lives.

Join us for a tribute to Whitney Houston with non-stop music videos on MTV Hits and MTV Jams, all day Sunday.

they havent searched the hotel yet per TMZ. they are waiting on a search warrant. That is why the investigators and body is still there.

And if they haven't searched the room yet than nobody knows anything, so any announcement are hysterical conjecture and pure gossip.

However, I believe somebody has to deny entrance in order for them to be required to get a search warrant. So, for whatever reason, they must feel they need to investigate further. It's likely they'll make a statement eventually explaining why. Long before the results of the eventual autopsy. It will be interesting to see if they end up questioning anybody.

Nope. They need a search warrant because they suspect foul play and the clearest person to give them consent is known to be dead. So there are no exigent circumstances where they have to immediately enter. They can wait for a search warrant and control access to the scene to preserve evidence. You guard the room and only let the coroner in until you have the warrant.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Feel bad for her, doesn't seem very sharp or even diva like. Must be a lot of pressure living up to diva standards because she absolutely had diva talent.

Just from reading this thread. If you scroll the previous pages, you'll see several posts from people about her body still being in the building while a party is going on downstairs. That's just plain out sorry and trifling as hell that a party can't be interrupted to get a body out.....even hers. Lord knows the party probably ain't about shit anyway.

oh, well, wouldn't call this thread an authority by any stretch. If it's true, of course it's pathetic but that entire business is pretty pathetic.

yeah, that's what I find so sad, even though I'm nowhere near being an ardent fan, when you've seen someone throughout so many years and you remember when they were fresh faced and full of promise, that in itself is heartbreaking. Enough so that I told my brother that "maybe it's a good thing i'm a failure as a musician" the people and situations you have to deal with are inhumane. I guess it would be similar to a young, innocent girl being pimped out used and thrown out after it's all said and done. Nothing is good about that kind of business.

I never really know what to think when death's like this happen. On one end I'm happy her music will be everywhere and her iconic status reaches new heights but I also hate the phoniness and all the supposed "fans" coming out the woodwork acting like they gave two cents. Elvis, Michael, Amy, and now Whitney. Where was everybody when they were crying for help?

I remember seven years ago when I couldn't even utter Michael's name without a chuckle, a slick comment, nobody wanted to be bothered...now everyone loves him. Human nature pisses me the hell off.

i dont want to rewrite the same stuff on this topic - but that cut wrist thing is making me think more.....

Do you guys know Artie Lange?

He tried killing himself with a knife, lets say he stabbed himself 15 times, about 10 of them were defensive/minor cuts because he was scared to do it.....

Im thinking Whitney might have done the samething, maybe started too thought about it? Cut her wrist but not deep enough. THEN she is high, trying to sing and failing at it, then depressed and high with her "yes men".... then when she came down, she called her mom and other people, then when things were quiet she might have thought, "I cant sing, im high again, etc" and then killed herself with pills or something in a bath tub.

The slight cuts makes me think she was thinking about it, then went out, fucked up singing, then got high, came down and then did it???

That Artie Lange thing is kinda making me think... google about his suicide attemp. He "tried" stabbing himself but he couldnt do it, then he did.

Artie rose

glad he's doing better (his own sports show with Nick Dipaolo), but I really miss him on the show sad

You clearly "knew" a lot about her to begin with, so why not? I bashed Britney Spears for years like crazy and realized one day I knew more about her than I should and slowly backed off once her probems started.

I know a lot about her from hearing her songs on the radio and sitting back and observing her impact and influence on other artists from the time she hit the scene. As far as knowing about who wrote what or who produced what, how would I know because I certainly didn't buy any of the records? I never even heard of old Silver Balls Clive Davis until years later when they did a documentary on her on TV.

 thanks for the chuckle Andy. I bet another good name for him would be old Money Bags 'cause you KNOW he made a ton of it from his work with Whitney (greedy bastard.... I just thought about Ms. Hyman.)

So when did this take place? Had the news about Whitney even broken when this took place?

And honestly, I don't see the big deal about it. This is an isolated piece of tape. For all we know, there was 20 minutes of remembering Whitney at this even before Diana took the stage, if her death was even known at the time of taping. And Whitney didn't have anything to do with Diana winning a lifetime acheivement award. Diana was the template.

Should she have said something? Probably. But Whitney had nothing to do with her winning a lifetime acheivement award. Hell, did they even know each other?

Memorials for Whitney have their place, but not necessarily in an acceptance speech by Diana Ross for a lifetime acheivement award. If she even knew Whitney was dead at the time.

Houston remembered at Clive Davis gala

By MESFIN FEKADU, Associated Press – 39 minutes ago

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — More than two decades ago, Clive Davis introduced a young woman with a scintillating voice to the music industry at his annual pre-Grammy soiree: Whitney Houston.

On Saturday night, hours after Houston's death at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Davis — Houston's mentor, producer, champion and longtime friend — memorialized her at this year's gala, held downstairs from the same hotel where she died.

With celebrities ranging from Dr. Dre to Tony Bennett in attendance, a somber Davis, reading from a sheet of paper, said: "I personally devastated by the loss of someone who has meant so much to me. She was full of life, looking forward for tonight. She loved music and she loved this night that celebrated music."

He added: "Whitney was a beautiful person and she had a talent beyond compare. She graced this stage ... so many times. So simply put: Whitney would have wanted the music to go on."

He dedicated the evening to her and asked for a moment of silence as a photo of the 48-year-old, hands wide open, looking to the sky, appeared on the screen.

Then, he said with excitement: "Now ladies and gentlemen, let the music begin."

Tony Bennett, the evening's first performer, recounted other recent big-name deaths in the music industry. "First it was Michael Jackson, then Amy Winehouse, now the magnificent Whitney Houston. Let's legalize drugs, like Amsterdam, it's a very sane city now."

He added that Winehouse was "the greatest singer I've ever heard in my life."

The scene was somewhat surreal given Houston's shocking death only earlier in the day. But Grammy President and CEO Neil Portnow, who called Houston a friend, said "canceling the party was never an option."

"A lot of us holding hands tonight, on each other's shoulders ... We'll be celebrating," he said. "The legacy she left will be here forever."

He announced that Jennifer Hudson would perform a tribute to Houston at Sunday's Grammys.

Earlier in the evening, India.Arie said Houston "set the standard for what it is to be a great female artist."

Producer Jimmy Jam said her death was a "bittersweet irony" given that Davis heralded Houston as a great talent to watch when he had her perform at his party in her youth.

"The fact that it happened on this day, this event is where Clive Davis introduced Whitney to the world. We said hello to Whitney at the Clive Davis (gala), it may be appropriate we're saying our first goodbyes to Whitney at a Clive Davis event.

"In a weird way it's appropriate, the show must go on. I think Whitney would have wanted that to happen. ... Tonight I think we begin to celebrate and remember."
