I remember a time in the 20th century that an artist peaked at age 35.

While they may have all kept selling lots of albums in an era where everybody was selling lots of albums. I believe all 3 of them peaked before the age of 30.

Times like this I wish I never heard of a Jackson because they're always name-dropped.

I'm tired of them too. | |

Just bringin' some levity to the seriously played out posting of yet another "so-and-so is over the hill because their album didn't sell x number of copies" thread.
I will forever be of the opinion that some of the best music being made on the planet at this time (and any other) sells in the single digit thousands. As in a few thousand. Maybe, if they're lucky, tens of thousands. Shit, I listen to jazz and electronic stuff that pressed 500 and 1000 copies at a time. That doesn't make it any less great than whoever is selling millions of copies, imo.
In fact, The Roots are actually a great example in this regard. Look at their sales and tell me it makes you think any less of their albums (not YOU, you - I'm just giving an example).

That's why I applaud anything that is successful either commercially or artistically.

I wish some of you guys would just come out the closet and admit to being Beyonce cheerleaders... makes no sense to me how some of these same people are rentlessly making excuses for her poor album sales BUT turn around and bash Kelly Price and Jill Scott for some venting comments they made about the grammys.... LOL
then turn around and make a arguement that sales arent everything but were the same people pressed to say Beyonce would eventually sale over a million
ehhhh... ok....sure
I hate it when a Jackson is brought up as well... HOWEVER in this particular case it was necessary to show that if a artist damn near 40 can still sell records, have commercial airplay and sell out stadiums so can other artists... the peaking age is 35.

If her current album has sold over 900,000 copies it will be platinum before Christmas. Guarantee it.
Speaking for myself, I've never been a cheerleader for Beyonce or bashed anybody else for anything relating to sales or Grammy comments. I could never make excuses for her, because I don't care.
Honestly, sometimes people just have different opinions about these things. If I had to express one regarding Beyonce it would be that I think she has a great voice whether she sells 1 copy or a hundred million. Sales totals just don't matter to me.

Guess what? They dont matter to me neither...

4 doesn't have a smash like "Single Ladies" to move the album. Besides, it's Adele's year.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Albums are still selling, look at Adele. Beyonce just isn't one of the artists that people are checking for this go around. She fell off. All of her singles did bad too.

Really? Then what's your point, exactly?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
She made 7 music videos for this album?? Looks like she and her record label wasted alot of money
but that's what's so annoying about Beyonce. She goes overboard with the promotion, which is why so many people wish she would go away for awhile.

besides Love On Top, which she should've promoted the heck out of, Run The World is one of the better songs on the album. truthfully her voice sounded a mess, folk got tired of her moaning about how much she loves Jay, and the accidental planned pregnancy promo backfired.

I think the wrong singles were chosen and once again, Beyonce made herself out to be more important than she was with that self-created Billboard award to launch the era. It didn't help that daddy was fired either. As for the pregnancy, she already knew a year or two ago she would have a baby around 30, and the 4 concerts in NYC were intentional instead of going on tour.
Run The World was garbage and most of the songs took MONTHS to grow on me and even now, I like just half the album and not like her second and third. Love On Top should have been an early release, that's the best song on the album, very melodic and singable with good energy and talent. Countdown is also great and I'm glad it's a video now, but it's too late to revive the era, there should have been better planning. The ballads would have been better towards the middle or end of the era, and people simply don't like r&b ballads right now though I respect she wasn't following the crowd.
I hope her next album does better, but she really needs to disappear for awhile if she wants to be missed IMO

I agree as well.. not a fan of Beyonce but she could have definitly chosen better songs for first singles... its obvious for the first choice she was aiming for once again another hit which seems to be all she cares about. She rushed the project because that girl loves being overexposed and feeling more important than what she really is and that Billboard awards was the most laughable thing Ive ever heard of.. as well as that boring hyped up performance that was mostly entertaining because of the lighting. This chick REALLY think people take her seriously...LOL dont matter how many awards that you buy or are given hunny awards dont reflect talent or music...
This time around she has a tightrope to walk on in her decision with what kind of music she wants to continue to make. (She needs to seriously come back with more creative mature material and not worry about getting awards; she got away with 3 albums doing pop shit because that was the height of her popularity, thats obviously not going to work anymore because she has peaked)You cant have it both ways.... you cant expect to be taken seriously and continue making songs like WRTW... and your damn near 30...grow up... commercialism and accolades arent everything which seems to be the only thing Beyawnce cares about but then again she isnt and never was a serious creative artist so I guess that is to be expected... Her overexposure has also hurt her... Id say realistically she needs to take a good 5 years off and do nothing (no appearances, no commercials, interviews etc) and maybe if she decided 10 years that would be good but thats just wishful thinking in itself
Her ultimate downfall will be her constant hunger to be overexposed...(She thinks popularity is what makes you a legend when in reality it is quality, creativity, being able to step out of the box, taking risks, original, constantly challenging yourself musically, constantly trying to set bars and push the envelope, your not thinking about popularity or if people will like it.. its not about image... its about the music which I dont think she understands because she is blinded by her false accolades which all mean nothing at the end of the day) the public is simply tired of Beyonce, her same ol lackluster music and her egotistic nature about her music and herself

TRUTH. I don't think many people outside of those hardcore fans were really checking for her this time around. For her a year might have seemed like eternity but for us it felt more like a lunch break.
I hope she ain't scared to take a break...

I think she's talented for sure and can continue to have longeivity, but she can't buy it, which is what I think she or her management does. Like I thought her first album was garbage with only 3 good songs and she was so undeserving of all the hype, and I expected better cause of liking DC and her showing promise with her talent. Then I realized she's good for performing more than music, but the second and third albums were good, and now, just a handful of tracks.

Wishful thinking, When she supposedly took a break two years she didnt exactly disappear she was still seen. Just like when she has her baby its going to be media overkill. This generation has such a fascination with her and Jay-Z that's unbelievable.

They were the most powerful couple a year or two ago. They are not at the top right now actually, but they are talked about more than who actually is. At least they are talented though, props to them.
