Rihanna now has more #1 singles than Janet Jackson.

We Found Love is her 11th #1 single.

I don't like Rihanna's music, but this is still funny to me. lol

It just proves how much of a scam the record industry is nowadays and how gullible the public is.

What chart are we talking about? The Hot 100?

Congratulations to Rihanna for indisputably surpassing Janet. Janet fans, I know this is a bitter pill but you just need to face the reality that Rihanna is superior. razz

not surprised

Rihanna is one of the very few post-2004 pop-stars with real/strong pop hooks that deserve to be hits, even if they are (mostly) guilty pleasures...

If only it mattered, because Janets jams are solidified classics of funk and dance.

It's funny, I can feel better about Adele's sales success more than Rihanna's chart topping success. Geez I wonder why? neutral wink

Eh, she can't be all bad. She had the good sense to hire Nuno Bettencourt as her guitarist.

No, I mean your statement is wrong. It has nothing to do with real music. In pop music, there have been some great pop hooks since 2004. You are just a big Rihanna stan. To say that she has been the "very few" coming out with strong pop hooks is absurd. And who determines what "deserves" to be a hit?

Nice attempt to be dismissive. Big fail, but nice try.

ha! if you can't see the power of the hooks of Umbrella, Don't Stop the Music, Disturbia, Russian Roulette or Only Girl then I just must say that you're a weak A&R chairman!

Stan.
Those aren't the only good hooks in pop music in the last 7 years.

It's easier to get them nowadays, what Janet did wasn't easy to do, and same goes for the artists from the time period they were having hits. I don't know if she deserves them, but she does have a lot of songs I find catchy though I haven't bought Rihanna music for years now. And a lot of her #1's are collabs where she is a guest artist, all of Janet's are solo. I doubt Janet will have another #1 though she deserves it, but it would be nice if she could catch up.....maybe the red hair gave Rihanna good luck lol

Rihanna is a singles artist, and most of those #1s came not only in a short span and in a digital era, but are the product of DUETS. Janet's 10 #1s span well over a decade, show longevity, and were achieved with her as the artist, and ONLY her.

NaQu, you remind me of one of those kids on the playground who doesn't know how to tell a girl he likes her, so he bullies her instead. It's okay to say you like Janet, boo. I know you do. wink

p.s.--Rihanna gives props to The Goddess

"Janet was one of the first female pop icons that I could relate to ... She was so vibrant, she had so much energy. She still has power. I’ve seen her on stage, and she can stand there for 20 minutes and have the whole arena scream at her. You have to love Janet."--Rihanna

I mean its meaningless and saying that it is meaningless doesnt mean people REALLY give a fuck... I doubt Janet or her fans are losing sleep over this especially when it means nothing..

As said before, because of the downsizing of the industry as a whole, theres less chance then ever now in actually getting commercial play, but if you do get your foot in the door, you have an advantage now as theres even less competition then ever before on the mainstream charts. Lack of A&R development etc....

That and the fact theres only about 4 record companies left period in pop music and pretty much no moderate size labels left as they have been swollowed by either BMG, sony, WB or Universal means even fewer roster of artists and even less variety then ever now on mainstream stations, coupled with the whole radio segregation bullshit employed in the USA (thanks clear channel)

I bet some extreme (and abit pathetic) fans buy multiple copies of their favourite artists singles online as it's so cheap to do so now to get them to no.1....

I have nothing against Rihanna, but the singles chart has been a joke for many years now. Album charts in the US is pretty slim aswell.

I don't necessarily think anyone is losing sleep over it but I do think it is funny that some Janet fans are stressing how meaningless it is. I'm sure that if Janet ever has another number one single on the Hot 100 that it will all of a sudden become very meaningful. wink

Kind of like how some of Michael Jackson's fans were trying to block Katy Perry from reaching number one and tying Michael's record by purchasing the song she was competing with?

Bullshit. Janet is an established icon. Her mark on the pop music world is set, #1 hit or not.

You know what I would like? For Rhianna to surpass the Beatles record for #1s in the US? Why? Because it would be really funny for someone to bring it up when Beatles fanbois start going over stats about who has the most #1 songs.

I hope she does it. I'm totally behind you girl. thumbs up!
