And even during Together Again, the biggest female stars in the world that time were the Spice Girls, and of course Madonna and Mariah, and I remember people caring for them more, and me being "that janet girl" though I remember the song constantly being on the radio. What about when That's the Way Love Goes came out? Her peaks were excellent with that track and the album.
I do remember Janet fans a few years ago boasting about Together Again being something like the best selling number 2 single in the UK ever. It wasn't even the biggest selling number 2 single by a female that year (Natalie Imbruglia and Toni Braxton both outdid it). I think Wham! still hold the record with White Christmas anyway.
Anyway, I've recently been ecstatic at the new availability of Saturday Night Live seasons from the 80s and 90s to download. I just finished watching the episode with Heather Locklear & Janet this morning. I'd only ever seen the 'Throb' performance once before. Much better than her 2004 performances.
That Throb performance used to be aired as a music video sometimes over here. I LOVE the Anytime, Anyplace performance, she sounds SO good IMO and looks so pretty
I don't think I believe that record either though I do remember her talking about it being big all around the world, even when I Get Lonely was already the next single.

It does Janet a total disservice to say that she isn't popular worldwide (sounds silly, I know, but for all she's accomplished, it's true). As for Janet's "globally-known" single, that would have to be "Together Again". That song was massive everywhere. It was a top ten hit globally.
Again, as for her global appeal, she has fanclubs the world over. She's performed for the Queen of England. She's performed to sell-out crowds in Africa, in Europe, in Asia, in Australia. Global stars such as Kylie Minogue, Peter Andre, JLS, and Samantha Mumba have either been compared to her, sampled her music, incorporated elements of her videos into their own, or just stated how much she's inspired them. Are there some people in the world who only know her as MJ's sister? I'm sure there are. But she is not a virtual unknown outside of the USA, as some people seem inclined to believe.
