Indeed! On the other thread about the new CD,I said that I'd rather see them do projects that pertain to their legacy.Looks like they were listening to me...LOL

Why are they including songs from other artists that Maurice produced? Wouldn't it have been better if they had of included extended versions of EW&F songs instead? The excellent extended verison of "System of Survival" has yet to see the light of day on CD. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

It would be nice if there was a record version. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

One question: what do we do with all the remastered EW&F CDs that we bought in the past?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah,a vinyl version of this set would be great.

That's the best question! Those remastered EW&F discs were superbly done and sounded magnificent. Even though this looks to be a promising set, I wonder if these albums coming from the "Columbia masters" mean anything? I thought that the remastered EW&F discs from 1999 and 2004 were mastered from the original tapes. Hell, Faces, Raise!, Electric Universe and their work from 1973-1979 has been mastered from the original tapes and mixed with DSD sound. The SACD version of That's the Way of the World and Gratitude sound epic. Check me out and add me on:

I didn't buy any, except a 2 albums on 1 CD of their first two Columbia albums. I don't buy CD's just because they are remastered, which usually just means they're louder or the bass is pumped up. I have volume and bass knobs (plus an equalizer) for that. The original records sound better to me. I bought the Michael Jackson ones only because they had extra tracks. To me, there's very few remasters that I've heard that had any sound improvement. Yeah, I just looked at the site and it seems all right but I'm cautious wfen I've never heard of it. There's also no news of this on Amazon or anyplace else. Let us know if you hear from someone who has bought off this site before. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Yeah I've never brought anything from this site and I believe this is the only place to actually buy it. I don't see it on Amazon or CD Universe as of yet, so that's why I'm a little leery. I will also admit that the set looks alittle cheap and just put together from a far, but it looks really nice. I want it really for the hard-to-find 80s sets after Faces. Check me out and add me on:

The site is ran by Sony Music. I'd suggest waiting a few months until Pop Market puts the set up for sale on one of its daily deals that they constantly email folks about with very deep discounts. For example, the Luther Vandross "Love Luther" set normally goes for about $70-$80 and it was priced at $20 for a day.

I thought when that Love, Luther set was first released, it went for about $40??? I never saw it priced for $70-$80 bucks. Check me out and add me on:

So, it appears to be a music club assoc. with Sony. There is a physical store as well. This is from the Popmarket website:
POPMARKET BRINGS A NEW RETAIL EXPERIENCE TO MORRISON HOTEL GALLERY NEW YORK, NY (May 25, 2011) - POPMARKET.COM, the first online daily deals site created exclusively for music fans by Sony Music Entertainment, is collaborating with the renowned Morrison Hotel Gallery to transform the home of CBGBs into PopMarket. Open to the public for a limited time beginning on May 25, this new retail experience will house rare collectors sets and albums from iconic artists including Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, AC/DC and more. Iconic photography from the Morrison Hotel Gallery will also be displayed throughout the space, complementing the new music offerings.
“Since many of the products available on PopMarket.com are not available in-stores, we thought a retail market would be a great way to bring our exclusive offerings to life, providing an entirely new experience,” said Adam Block, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Legacy Recordings, Sony Music Entertainment's catalog division. “We couldn’t think of a better place to have our store than in the Morrison Hotel Gallery.”
The Store will offer music fans the chance to purchase the amazing boxed sets and collector’s items that are available on PopMarket.com, as well as attend a schedule of early evening events including music film screenings and special guest speakers. It will also offer items from PopMarket’s Complete Albums Collection, a new series of music products that will be available exclusively on PopMarket.com, and t-shirts from Archive 1887, which feature screen prints of rare rock photographs and artwork from Sony Music’s archives.
Peter Blachley, co-owner of the Morrison Hotel Gallery says of the collaboration, “The Morrison Hotel Gallery has had a very close working relationship with Sony Music over the years and it's a pleasure to bring our two brands together for this exciting new concept in retail at our Bowery location. Morrison's iconic visual fine art music collection combined with Sony's world class audio packaging brings our customers an experience not found anywhere else.” PopMarket is located at the Morrison Hotel Gallery at 313 Bowery in New York City and will run from May 25, 2011 through June 30, 2011. Store hours are from 12pm-8pm (Wednesday and Friday), 12pm-7pm (Thursday and Saturday), and 12pm-6pm (Sunday).
Created by Sony Music Entertainment, PopMarket is the first online daily deals site exclusively for music fans, bargain hunters and serious collectors alike. The site offers a 24-hour limited time ‘Daily Deal’ (changing each day at 12noon Eastern) and weekly channels containing a mix of premium music and rare, collectible albums, boxed sets, t-shirts and music memorabilia at deeply-discounted member's-only prices.
