1.) Every video was shot very weirdly or in creations of live performances. lol

2.) Storyline: Michael escapes a paparazzi trying to catch a story and he becomes invisible later to avoid anybody else looking at him therefore the disappearing act. Plus it was created to make his videos different from other videos (which obviously worked). lol

3.) I don't know about how edited Bad needed to be but I guess they were trying to include both a movie and a musical...

4.) Smooth Criminal was only filmed for purposes of "Moonwalker" so of course the plot holes were visible. Even I noticed it when I watched it the first few times lol

Bad has parts where some things needed an explanation:

Why did Darryl go to the private school?

Did his mother ever come home after work?

Why did his friends go from happy to see him to hesitant when he corrected them about their glasses? Was there some past anger towards him?

Bad was 18 minutes but I think they could've fleshed it out to maybe 30

Smooth Criminal....lawd, like I said I can make a list

-Where were the kids' parents? Where they orphans

-What kind of store did Michael run? It's called "Michael's Music" but was it selling albums? instruments? (I'm all for detail so I wanna know lol)

-How did Michael and Katie escape Mr. Big's lair

-Where did Michael fly off to?

-Why were the kids sitting outside?

so many questions... lol

*sigh*

Moonwalker...

DSTYGE - it was just a graphic backdrop - not meant to be a physical space.

Billie Jean - the chase of the paparazzi, being able to escape them, and of course the fact MJ disappears is an allusion to the lyrics - it was a figment of the media's imagination as it never took place thus "the kid is not my son".

BAD - again the whole musical breakdown was a metaphor, all that happened was MJ stood up to the old skool crew and stood his ground. Edit out the dance sequence and you have the black and white story being told.

As for the larger story being told, it was the story of a kid from a run down neighbourhood making good. His scholarship to the "sissy private school", was seen as moving up by his old friends. Their pride at "college boy" making good turns when they feel they have been left behind, and he has changed, gone all elite on them - as alluded to with the correction of Tortoise Glasses.

BAD was based around a real story at the time of a college kid who was killed by his old friends when he returned during school break.

Smooth Criminal starts with MJ rolling up in the car (actually transforming from the car) and this was just a facet of it being part of a bigger storyline. It makes more sense to start the short film with MJ just entering the club.

Black or White - the opening scene just echoed what was on the album.

Michael's Music was a store that sold instruments. You see them in the window.

I forgot about that. Yeah it was about some college student.

The major issue with MJ short films was when they were edited down from their original length to just the song - they often wouldn't make sense - eg BOW starts and you have a guy in an armchair fall into the scene. If you haven't seen the full intro you'd be like, what?!?!

I always felt they should have covered off these little things, shot an extra scene etc, to ensure the edits would work from a visual / storyline point of view.

That all said... I still think THIS is his best video.....

Come on, now! You know he broke her off right after she asked that stupid question. But, due to his "strong personal convictions", that scene was edited out of the film.

Umm...I thought that the Bad video was pretty self-explanatory.

The story was about Darryl who went to...what looked like a boarding school, probably because he was really smart. His mother isn't home, because she is probably working 2-3 jobs to pay for his ass to continue being in that school as well sending him clothes, paying her rent, and making sure she has food for him and her to eat. As for the friends, even if they were, it's always really hard for you to reconnect with people when the both of you are on two seperate paths in life. They could have been harboring some sort of resentment, because they feel that he thinks that he's better than them, because he goes to a prediminantly white school and abandoned them.

I don't remember there being any plotholes in that music video. I can't say the same for Moonwalker though. =/

When TWYMMF was released - initially it was listed by NME as being released with the b-side called "Love Games". Alas no such release took place - but I always wondered if this was the track they played.

Has anyone bothered to Shazam it?

I'm going to put that info on the Michael Jackson Archives page and hopefully someone will know more

I just think they should've fleshed out the Bad video a little longer. If it had been about 30 minutes instead of 18, I think it would've been a bit better

Alright y'all...you made your points with the other music videos and all your discussions made sense.

Now if there was one vid I was gonna overanalyze...it would be Captain EO. Gatdamn....

Seriously...it was more coherent than most of his other music videos (beginning, middle, end)...but the script was just so damn BAD! I love the movie, don't get me wrong. But for all the people who were working on it, like Coppola and George Lucas...I expected waaaaaay better. I mean, EO is the captain of a broken down ship, leading a gang of muppets. And they say they're like the WORST battalion in space, or at least, they're not the elite. I wish I got some background on that. Like, why are they considered that sucky? What did they do?

Also, the villian (The Supreme Leader)...not well-developed. You only see her once, and I didn't get the idea that she was really a bad person aside from the fact she wasn't good-looking and was a bit bad-natured diva. I mean, if I see her beat a kid, or have a history of plundering villages and burning down towns, then yeah, she's a villian. I wish they developed her more.

And getting down to what I really needed to know...I wanted to know more about EO himself. Where'd he come from, how'd he get to be a captain, he'd he end up with his crew, etc.

Questions never answered:

Where was he in the Don't Stop Til You Get Enough video? A pinball machine?

Where was he going in Billie Jean? WHAT WAS THE ACTUAL STORYLINE? When he disappeared, where did he go?

Where all dancers in the Bad video go after the video went back to black and white? If you think about it, the Bad short film could've been edited a bit better

Smooth Criminal leaves so many plot holes I'd have to make a list for them lol

What did the opening scene to Black or White have to do with ANYTHING?

Why was LaToya cock blocking MJ's game in The Way You Make Me Feel?

Why did Spike turn into a damn MOUNTAIN in Speed Demon?

Smooth Criminal...Sooooooooooooo you just gonna start the short film with him pulling up as a damn car?

Well they had to get to Africa somehow... lol

pshhh...talking about MJ movies not making any sense on Prince fansite?! I <3 Prince but Under the Cherry Moon was just too wacky and I didn't really get the story of the film...ugh and I bought the freaking DVD...I'd thought it was going to be a cool purple rain type of movie...silly me DX

Oh and I've never seen Graffity Bridge but I've seen people complaining about that one being the most unwatchable film ever...I guess musical geniuses have a tendency to make wacky films...btw I've never seen Captain.. is it good? I'm not a fan of Moonwalker so maybe I shouldn't watch it....but if it has cool dancing to it I wanna watch it... boxed

It was a "ride/movie" and set up to be 11 minutes wrong. All disney rides are set up for high turn over. Thus, the movie uses a lot of narrative in the dialogue to propel the story along. In short, EO and his crew are the laughing stock, and this mission is their chance to prove themselves.

The villain is very much drawn in the Disney mould. She is menacing in the way she looks, speaks and acts. The fact that her world is monochromatic gives the impression of a dreary existence. Thus when EO delivers the gift of the song and transforms the evil queen in a serene beauty all the world is colourful and bright. And all done with time for song to spare.

I remember seeing EO the year it came out and enjoying it. It's not the best Disney piece by a long shot, but it was enjoyable.
