They were produced on a major label, but he already had changed his name for a long time already then. But please don't let us talk about the name change, but about the music .

The Sony suits were like he's black, so R&B, and TTD didn't want to be marketed like that. They didn't want him to do the rock & pop tunes, so didn't put a lot of effort into promoting his records.

I loved his TTD albums, and I liked Wildcard a lot, but I kind of tuned out after that. Anyone got recommendations about what's worth seeking out amongst the material that followed?

Terence did imply that people working for Michael (maybe Frank Dileo) talked Sony into not promoting the 2nd album. I don't think he said any names though, Michael or anyone else. I think he said something like "big star at the label".

IIRC, Wildcard has different track listings/configurations/album art. I have the "Wildcard: Jokers Edition".

As for the MJ/Sananda stuff, I read that MJ's lawyer John Branca represented Sananda at the time too, and both were signed to Sony, or CBS as it was then. Apparently in the Taraborrelli book, it mentions about them possibly working together so I don't think MJ would have had any say in whether or not Sananda's music was promoted or not.

As for the promotion for Sananda's 2nd album, it would have been difficult to promote correctly due to the fact that it's eclectic compared to 'Introducing the Hardline....' which is a great Pop/Soul/R&B record. I personally like 'NFNF' and it has some very good songs on it. As for Sananda's new music, I think he could make another great R&B record like 'Introducing the Hardline...' or do a great R&B covers album which he proved he can do with To Be Loved, Wonderful World, A Change is Gonna Come and Who's Loving You.

Love TTD/Sananda. His TTD work is brilliant and even the Angels & Vampires albums have some gems on it.

Saw him in 2008 in Heerhugowaard (Holland) with the girl I loved back then and about 11 other people (seriously! ) and it was great, even though he only sang the Sananda stuff.

I am nearly a 100% sure he does not work for him. He always loved Sananda's current music. Would you say that everybody who likes an album like NPS is working for Prince? People's tastes are different .

I haven't noticed all that many haters in the thread. Need to try to learn to ignore it, like I have learned to ignore all of the pathetic Jacko Wackos around who seem to have conveniently forgotten what a washed up mess he was by the time he finally overdosed himself to death...

As I said in my OP, I absolutely adore TTD, but have always had a hard time warming up to Angels and Vampires. I put it on my iPod today to give it another try, because I really have loved ALL of the guys music. Are Nigor Mortis and Sphynx better than A&V? Would love a mini review from you, being that it seems you're one of the few here who have heard them.

I agree with you, in that I also admire that the guy has definined what is really important in life. I'm sure he is making a comfortable living off of making his music and touring in Europe, enjoying his family, etc. If you can support yourself with your art and enjoy your life, that is the true measue or artistic success. It seems to me that in doing so, he's living a more authenticly spiritual existance than some of the folks he gets compared to.

I wish he would play here in the States again, as he put on one of the most memorable shows I've ever seen.

Well, it's hard for me to give you a review because I truly love all three albums and honestly find them all to be fantastic.... What I would suggest is going to his website (www.sanandamaitreya.com)... There is a music player that launches on the bottom and allows you to hear a song from each album... Right now you can hear "Christine" (from "The Sphinx" album) and "Because You've Changed" (from "Nigor Mortis")... You should check them out... I don't know but to me, the thread that ties the greatness of his old stuff and his new stuff is readily apparent to me... Also, he has put up quite a few concerts in their entirety from the last 5 or 6 years up on youtube where you can check out a lot of his latest work... Just look up some of the song titles on youtube.... And I saw him live in '95 and it was phenomenal... Best concert I've ever seen...

Yeah, Vibrator tour...The London show from that tour is up on youtube in it's entirety and it's awesome.... I saw him in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on that tour... Yeah the lead guitar player, Louis Metoyer, is awesome... I had the pleasure of meeting him and hanging out with him just a few months ago because he was playing in Orlando, FL. Super nice guy, really down to earth, could not have been nicer... And killer guitar player!
