Yeah I really love it and it always made me emotional since music is escapism for me, but since the death, it's a painful reminder of how it no longer is like that for me....at least not now

I am planning on extending my J5 and early Michael collection. So far I've got few collection, but out of regular albums I only have:

Going Places

the Jacksons

Got To Be There

I am gonna buy Music and Me and something else. Which albums would you recommend?

You reaaally have to get some of young MJ music, his voice is just mind blowing!

You can get the 'Hello World' pack which is his 4 firsts solo cds.

Or the cds Michael Jackson anthology (2 cds), just great!

Yeah, I love Graffiti Bridge movie, so what? ''Oooooooooooh Montreal, say it!''
If you can't be nice to someone on the net, you probably ain't worth much talking to in real life either.

Rightly or wrongly, Michael's public image hurt the respect critics had for him - where it was easier to make fun of him than take him seriously on a musical level.

This is why I hate those sub culture music review magazines. A lot of them spend more time talking about the culture rather than the actual music. Like the one recently from the NME blog where the blog author claimed that MJ's voice became a parody of itself and is nowhere near the standard of his earlier work. Then has the audacity to praise Kurt Cobain's singing?! Like wtf? Sorry, but that to me screams of someone who is just doing whatever the hell they can to get a paycheck and nothing to do with any, actual, music knowledge.

No offense to Kurt, because I like his stuff w/Nirvana, but I will be damned if I think his singing is amazing.

STOP mocking Toy Toy! We, the Toy soldiers, stand by her. She gave a Toytastic interview.

By the way, Toy's new album has position #147 on the charts written all over it.

And what's wrong with her defending Joe's honour? What kind of earthly demon would accuse Joe of being a fucked up piece of trash? Just because he has millions in the bank despite never working a hour for it (all at the expense of making his son's life a living hell every single day) there's no need for you to point the finger at him, meanies.

...Honestly, I don't get the collective MJ fan community hatred towards MJ's dad and other members of his family. I think sometimes fans forget their place, that we aren't personal friends and family of MJ's, and that we don't actually know these people and we weren't there and don't know what did or didn't happen, and it's none of our business anyway.

Plus, MJ pretty much made it clear that whatever did happen, he forgave his dad for a long time ago, and spoke of his father positively. I think fans should keep that in mind - especially when, if it wasn't for MJ's dad Michael would've never been here, and if it wasn't for his dad busting his ass to see that his kids succeeded in music, none of these folks would even know MJ existed in the first place.

These recent tracks are ones I know the fans want to hear:

* Hollywood (Tonight) (Demo)
* I Am a Loser/I Was the Loser
* People of the World
* Days in Gloucestershire
* Can't Get Your Weight Off Me
* Monster (Invincible session song) (Not known if this has been in the possession of fans)

Other songs a lot of fans want to hear, but are not necessarily recent are the following:

* Men in Black
* Chicago 1945 ('87 version and '01 version)
* Al Capone
* On My Anger
* You Are a Liar
* Bassouille (not known if this has ever reached the hands of fans, or even recorded)
* The Nightmare of Edgar Allan Poe (not known if this has ever reached the hands of fans, or even recorded)

eek wow...I'm really behind!! I've seen a Katie Couric interview where she said something about MJ working on Edgar Allan Poe project...or a screen play or something. If that song is real it must sound like Ghost or Is It Scary sequel? I'm excited!!

If it wasn't for my friend's mom she wouldn't be here either, but that still doesn't excuse the fact that she physically and mentally abused her daughter either. I don't know if that's what happened within the Jacksons, but I will tell you this, just because your mom and dad raised and fed you doesn't mean that you use that as an excuse the horrible way they treated you. Well in MJ's case he publicly said he forgave his dad. No one truly knows how he really felt about his dad inside but it seemed pretty obvious to me that he wanted his fans to know that he forgave his dad. And he went on to say that he wouldn't change his past because he likes the fact that he's able to give back to the world through music and harmony.. I interpret that as him thanking his success to Joe. So its more than just about rasing and feeding...After all his dad really "helped" him become a supserstar...

He talked about Joe's abuse many times...but honestly I never felt like he was trying to reach out to fans and make them think his dad was evil. I think He was trying to open up and help fans understand why he's the way he is. I guess everyone has different opinion...

Well, tbqh, I don't know if Joe ever really addressed it. I know that he's not going to now if he already hasn't, but the fact that he has never addressed it, coupled with what is, currently going on, doesn't look to good on his part you know? I don't know what happened nor do I know anything about Joe and the family. It's really not my business, but I don't think it's totally unfathomable as to why fans don't seem to as forgiving as MJ was or thought he was.

That being said, I think that my statement was to address the attitude that some people have towards abuse. I mean...my friend was the same way. She would tell these stories of what her mom and dad would do to her and I would be, absolutely, horrified. Otoh, she would try to negate what was going on by saying things such as: I don't have it as bad as everyone else, my mom didn't kill me, and etc. I don't and never agreed with that kind of attitude. It just seems like it's ok to take the abuse simply, because your parents birthed you. Giving you the basic necessities of life is the responsibility of a parent. Treating you like shit is not.

I honestly can't tolerate it much now. It just seems so old and grade school to me. However Billie Jean never gets old. It's a damn near perfect song lyrically, rhythmically, and vocally. All of MJs "ooh" and "hoos" are dropped at the right moments. It's one of those songs that stands on its own merit and doesn't require a video to amp audience appeal, althought the video is quite cool especially for an 80s vid. The other great thing about the song is the message: paternity allegations and stalking. Such issues will go on for all of man's days.

sad Damn I miss Michael.

bravo. you have taken the words straight out of my mouth. i was emotionally abused as a kid. no, my mother didn't slick me down with vaseline and whip me with an extension cord as mj alleges joe did to him, and the scars may not be visible, but they're there. it is only now that i have really, really come to terms with the abuse, and have become comfortable calling it that. like your friend, i downplayed it, tried to explain it away. but when i would tell my friends about some aspect of my life, they would be horrified like you. i learned that i was the one in denial not them.

like mj, i've moved on. i like my life, i'm grateful that i had the strength to move forward, and i do try to remember the better memories of my mother. but i haven't forgotten. everyone likes to talk about how mj forgave joe and whatnot. what about the fact that when mj lived in vegas, he wouldn't even let him in the house? clearly, he knew where to draw the line with his father.

See, the thing about Latoya is that she tells so many lies, it makes it really hard to know when she is actually telling the truth or not. Sometimes she does tell the truth, but honestly, I think she tells more lies than truth. I caught part of the interview on Piers last night and all I could do is smh. Yeah she’s really good at acting like she’s sincere and genuine with her statements, but I remember how she went on several talk shows saying how Joe abused them both physically and sexually and that she knew about Michael’s inappropriate conduct with boys and she seemed oh so sincere and genuine about those claims too, like she really was being honest and truthful. rolleyes Now she’s saying how great Joe is but refuses to directly answer whether or not she stands by her claims she made about Joe back then and says she was “forced” by her dead ex-husband to say those things. She says she knows who the people are who conspired to have Michael murdered but wont name them, only tells people to buy her book and “read between the lines” rolleyes Really cant trust anything that comes out of her mouth.

You are so right. LaToya manipulates the truth. She says what she thinks the media wants to hear. She will flip-flop in a minute. If this album and book doesn't sell, she will slowly begin to throw in jabs about Michael because she knows that's what people want to hear. From the excerpts that I've read and what she has said in interviews, I can see her manipulation slowly starting to take shape. Btw, I never for a moment believed that Jack Gordon forced her to say what she said about Michael and Joe. She relished in that attention and I will never forget or forgive her for what she said about Michael and how she almost sent him to jail with her lies.

co-sign with everything you said. as i wrote on the latoya thread, she's a grifter. gordon was a bad man, but he's not responsible for her actions. she would have helped a lynch mob string mj up from the nearest tree if it meant favorable media coverage for her.

Not sure if you're referring to Thriller the album or "Thriller" the song, but I think the same could be said of either. Thriller (the album) has not aged gracefully at all. "Billie Jean" and "PYT," being the exceptions. Off the Wall and even the Jackson 5 singles, to me sound much more contempory by today's standards.

It was slowly downhill from there, and the only reason it was slowly was because it would take him 6-7 years between albums. His legacy will be much more as a pop star/figure/oddity than musical.

Dying really was the best career move he could make by the time 2009 came along. I really think he wouldn't have completed the tour in his current state, if it ever even commenced. We all know that it was already postponed once at the last minute. This couldn't have been a decision made lightly (i.e. "we need a little more time, please Mr. AEG, to make sure it's perfect"). I know for a fact that it cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, perhaps over $1,000,000, to change those dates.

I have a different point of view on a few points.

Whilst I agree Thriller (the song) sounds a dated I have to disagree on the album as a whole. For me WBSS, BI, BJ, HN, LIML all stand the test of time, and to a lesser extent PYT.

For me the album that has shown the greatest wear is Bad, and I think it has more to do with the instrumentation than the actual composition - even then you still have timeless songs like TWYMMF, LG, MITM, SC.

As for his legacy, time will tell. But already the focus has been more on the music and the entertainment factor than anything else. The oddity as you call it, has been relegated to where it belongs, and the music is front and centre. I think as time passes his music will continue to influence and grow in value beyond anything else.
