BTW for all Aussie fans - MJ specials are pretty much taking over the music channels on Foxtel.

MTV - is running a few specials including TOP 50 MJ songs, and Evolution:Michael Jackson.

V is running a few also including - MJ Countdown

Max has loads of stuff including a replay of the memorial, Max Recommends, Michael Jackson Legacy, Ne-Yo's Tribute to Michael Jackson, Live in Munich and GHOSTS.

Other channels running specials include BIO, and E!

I am gonna buy Music and Me and something else. Which albums would you recommend?

Get the "Hello World" boxset - its everything you need from MJ solo during the motown era.

It's the best compilation Motown has done on Michael (Soulsation being the best on J5)

The upcoming "Dear Michael" set they have coming out in Japan looks real cool too

I had a hard time trying to decide what should be included:

Should I include that was unreleased then was put on compilations later?

Should I include material that is only available in snippets?

Then the whole issue of all the leaked tracks from the Cascio recordings was a whole other headache lol

Heartbreak Hotel was on there too. I think Michael would've changed up the set list after certain shows, that way it wouldn't have been the same set all 50 shows

So we know these songs were considered/rehearsed/planned:

Don't Stop Til You Get Enough

Rock With You

Heartbreak Hotel

Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'

Thriller

Beat It

Billie Jean

Human Nature

Bad (I think this would've been fleshed out more than just the intro for They Don't Care About Us)

The Way You Make Me Feel

Man In The Mirror

I Just Can't Stop Loving You

Dirty Diana

Smooth Criminal

Jam

Black Or White

Will You Be There

Dangerous

They Don't Care About Us

Stranger In Moscow

Earth Song

You Are Not Alone

There were others..... I'm forgetting some

Heartbreak Hotel was rehearsed musically but didn't progress as MJ felt there wasn't enough "production" value for it. Michael Bearden that initially the band rehearsed around 36 songs, and then MJ and him would go back and forth on what to include - what not to etc.

They said that they would keep Stranger In Moscow and swap it in some nights in place of Human Nature.

I'm sure as the tour progressed some nights a song would be substituted or added, much like he did with DS and Come Together.

I always looked at "Thriller" (the song) as a novelty (for some reason).

I honestly can't tolerate it much now. It just seems so old and grade school to me. However Billie Jean never gets old. It's a damn near perfect song lyrically, rhythmically, and vocally. All of MJs "ooh" and "hoos" are dropped at the right moments. It's one of those songs that stands on its own merit and doesn't require a video to amp audience appeal, althought the video is quite cool especially for an 80s vid. The other great thing about the song is the message: paternity allegations and stalking. Such issues will go on for all of man's days.

Not sure if you're referring to Thriller the album or "Thriller" the song, but I think the same could be said of either. Thriller (the album) has not aged gracefully at all. "Billie Jean" and "PYT," being the exceptions.

I know that we all have our opinions, but that's a real shitty one.

Off the Wall and even the Jackson 5 singles, to me sound much more contempory by today's standards.

I don't think that this opinion reflects the current market, at all. You just happen to prefer it that music. No one really makes music like that anymore save for the post-disco revival as people are trying to recreate using new technology, Daft Punk and a shitload of other new artists. Some artists try to recreate the Motown sound as they are classics, but in it's still an 80s market with the 90s coming back. Especially since a lot of people still listen and enjoy the music, because it is fun to dance to and enjoy. Ultimately, this is why I think your opinion is full of shit.

His legacy will be much more as a pop star/figure/oddity than musical.

Unless you are from the future I don't think that you can make such assumptions. As of right now, there's been more focus on the music. It seems to be, mainly, rock enthusiasts that just try to trash him at every chance they get for some reason. That being said, all of those things will be his legacy, because that was all of him. The fact that he was a huge pop star and eccentric and created music that a good chunk of the world loves. Shit like that doesn't just go away and you are fool to think so. Especially since it's been only 2 years since he passed. Even the Beatles legacy took some good 20 years to really set itself in stone.

Dying really was the best career move he could make by the time 2009 came along.

You are only saying that, because he did die. No one knew what the future could have held had he lived. No one.

So...anybody going to anything on June 25th? Any parties or events? I'm going to the Spike Lee B-day think in Brooklyn, but that's in August. ^^

I would like to watch the shows, but it's the same shit everytime. Wish I could see something different for once.

Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect, it means you've decided to look beyond the imperfections... unknown

Well in MJ's case he publicly said he forgave his dad. No one truly knows how he really felt about his dad inside but it seemed pretty obvious to me that he wanted his fans to know that he forgave his dad. And he went on to say that he wouldn't change his past because he likes the fact that he's able to give back to the world through music and harmony.. I interpret that as him thanking his success to Joe. So its more than just about rasing and feeding...After all his dad really "helped" him become a supserstar...

He talked about Joe's abuse many times...but honestly I never felt like he was trying to reach out to fans and make them think his dad was evil. I think He was trying to open up and help fans understand why he's the way he is. I guess everyone has different opinion...

Well, tbqh, I don't know if Joe ever really addressed it. I know that he's not going to now if he already hasn't, but the fact that he has never addressed it, coupled with what is, currently going on, doesn't look to good on his part you know? I don't know what happened nor do I know anything about Joe and the family. It's really not my business, but I don't think it's totally unfathomable as to why fans don't seem to as forgiving as MJ was or thought he was.

That being said, I think that my statement was to address the attitude that some people have towards abuse. I mean...my friend was the same way. She would tell these stories of what her mom and dad would do to her and I would be, absolutely, horrified. Otoh, she would try to negate what was going on by saying things such as: I don't have it as bad as everyone else, my mom didn't kill me, and etc. I don't and never agreed with that kind of attitude. It just seems like it's ok to take the abuse simply, because your parents birthed you. Giving you the basic necessities of life is the responsibility of a parent. Treating you like shit is not.

Notice how the fans, apart from Kibbles, ignored this post. Fantastic.

Murray will walk away a free man because of Joe calling MJ a junkie in order to sue AEG and get money. I want to see the fans' reactions when this happens. To whom will they point the finger at, then?
