The theme of the video as you said, the empowerment thing.
I guess it was against those male guards but then you had Beyonce on top of cars and blowing shit up with her hand like this was Mad Max Beyond the Thunderdome.
I wish there was a better developed storyline.
I think there should have more play on the military feel. You have drums in the song that give the song that kind of feel, she should have been marching, but dancing at the same time and maybe having a fictional place in which they conquered a nation controlled by men.
That's about all I agree with in your post...your idea for the video isn't bad at all. Maybe that's what she was kinda sorta trying to do but it just didn't translate in the video.
But I really do think the song is terrible and even if I liked the video I don't think it would make me like the song and I am not anti-Beyonce at all.

My only complaint of the video, is that I wish there was a better developed storyline. She could really did something with the military, women take over theme. In fact, I will explain more in my review of it:
I will get right to the point and say that I like the song more than the video. That's not to say the video isn't good. In my eyes it is. I don't know. I think there should have more play on the military feel. You have drums in the song that give the song that kind of feel, she should have been marching, but dancing at the same time and maybe having a fictional place in which they conquered a nation controlled by men. It may sound wack to some people, but that's what I would have done. But that's why I don't make the big bucks that they(entertainers and directors) do.
Either way, the dancing is very good, even though I don't know if it was the editing of the video or whatever, but on a couple parts, especially with the two men, her moves weren't in sync with theirs. I do like her dancing in the sand upside down. Like the different dances she was doing, especially some of the African dances she was doing. My grade for it is a B-.Wouldn't call it epic, but still good. The stans, for the most part will love it. Anti Beyonce fans won't. What else is new.
I agree with the bold about how the video's concept could've went and I agree about the dancing. The video was just disjointed.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but I wonder if a longer video where she could have fit that storyline would have been better? I don't know. I understand your last statement. There are Bey fans who don't like it. I asked my sister about the song, she's actually younger than me, and is a Bey fan.
Her reaction: Too Fast, don't know if she could even dance to it. LOL.

I think the editing could have better, and now thinking about it...the end where she takes his badge away and still salutes him. I know what she trying to do there but it kinds of falls flat there. But I would nitpicking pointing that out.

the problem i have is nothing with the video or even Beyonce, its mainly how she tries to come off as "raw" and "Unplanned" and Outside the Box, and yet this is the same vocal styles same breaks same lyrical content she has been doing for over a decade, which is fine, if thats your niche go for it, but dont try to pass yourself of as this being a "fresh start"

Loved It, Loved It, Loved It! "4"
RunTheWorldVideo YES! im mad it wasnt the whole thing but the choreography at the beginning was SICK
Run The World" kinda reminded me of a female, militant version of MJ's "Remember the Time", which is a great comparison! Loved it!

That is a pretty decent comparision(though not as great at that video), but don't say that too loud in here because you know how that goes whenever you mention Bey and MJ in the same sentence. LOL.
Thats because they should NEVER be mentioned in the same sentence. LOL Its VERY insulting to Michael, his talent and contributions he gave to the industry. Yes your right that should NEVER be said OUTLOUD because its foolishness
I looked at the video and gave ita shot but I just DONT like it just like with the song and Im not going to conform to liking it JUST because it is Beyonce. Nor do I not like it BECAUSE it is Beyonce but that song is just horrible and I just did not get the music video at all. The dancing was not good and I just cant grasp how she wants to convince people that she wants to empower women but yet wear skimpy clothing and do outlandish things in the video which screams the opposite of what she is trying to promote.
So I'm not trying to pick at you BUT before you go on a rant saying that "people are just not gonna like it because its Beyonce" and so forth why not trying OPENING you brain to why they might have that objective view. Alot of people have been really unbiased and mature with their comments on this video. Its not like most have been blantly disrespectful but like I told you before Beyonce is overrated and this video is nothing special nor different than any of the other videos out today but since it is BEYONCE media is going to HYPE the ish up. Its okay if you like it but dont bash others because they have something objective to say about it. It really wasnt that great at all exactly except for like maybe the clothes like another poster said LOL but that has nothing to do with music once again.

This is a case of someone trying too hard. The girl has talent yet it seems she's trying to find ways to be edgy rather than expand on her gifts.

And you proved my point because I said: That is a pretty decent comparision(though not as great at that video). Now here we are, having a nice convo and you posted this. Look, I get why you don't like her. I get it. I do. And I don't put Bey at that level, never have. So why the long post? As I said, you proved my point.
And BTW, I did criticize the video(as a fan) so don't take this as a Bey can do no wrong type of fandom post because I am not like that. I didn't have a problem with any objective posts for and against it, in fact, Timmy and I actually had a nice convo.

And another thing, I was joking. See the LOLs at the end. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, I am a MJ stan so being that I am a fan of BOTH THEM, I would never put Bey on the same level as him. All I really did is agree with the poster who I first responded to, in what he was saying. That's all. I even put the qualifier in quotes, meaning that it is not a good as RTT. You just proved the very reason why I said it what I said.

We still are having a nice conversation its just not rosey and pink as you would like LOL. Im challenging your post but I am not bashing you. I understand your a fan but sometimes with your responces you feel as though people automatically have objective views on Beyonce because its Beyonce or for whatever fanatical reason you think.. thats not the case.
I DO agree sometimes that IS the case but so far I havent seen that in this thread and most of the time people do give objective views with out being disrespectful. All I'm saying is just try to be a little open minded when it comes down to her but it seems like you give your opinion with your mind already made up about how another person feels about something she has done because it is Beyonce just because you disagree.
I dont think it is ever a descent comparision or even OKAY to compare what anything Beyonce has done to Michael Jackson or ANY of his productions but that could be with ANY artist thats OUT TODAY... I just dont .. yes Ill admit I am a Michael stan but I just cant mentally read that and just not say anything LOL hahaha because its so laughable but Im not going to rant about that because this thread is not about that but thats not going to stop me from commenting on it either. And in commenting on it doesnt mean I think you feel that way, Im just commenting on what you said because I thought it was true.
popular black artist are expected to be on a certain level of talent and if they don't deliver they will be attacked/backlash...
another thing is with beyonce she is so hard trying to make herself into some icon, that it backfire, because she didn't let it happened naturally, she forced it and doesn't live up to the hype.
her first album was the best, this new album the people are finally seeing beyonce for who she really is, and over hyped, mediocre artist at best. She is basically a person who had vocal and dance training, but never really had the natural talent. Somethings you can't just practice at something and become great or master it, it has to be a God given talent. And i believe all people were given talents from god whether its good at dancing, singing, or welding ect. those are equal talents.

I couldn't have said better myself
She comes across as the kind of person who's too eager to do it right, you know what I mean?

Okay, I understand you better. I don't mind disagreements, I am just saying that it gets OTT when it comes to her and her fan base at times start it because of the whole Bey, female MJ argument. I guess I understand where you are coming from, because I don't agree with them. I am the first to talk about the MJ legacy and what it has meant to mainstream entertainment.
As far as the era, I have to admit, this has not been a great era for her thus far. I like RTA, but maybe it was too much. Maybe this is the beginning of the end when it comes to Bey getting hits and being a stable in pop music. A lot of her fans aren't happy with what's going on, and maybe what all of you are saying is right in terms of what she has been doing.

So then she lived up to your expectations then. I don't agree with you because I believe that anyone should practice to be the best he or she can be. And I feel that no matter what people think of her, Bey is great in what she does. Even you said that she gives a show well, well that's talent.
Not to mention, if her first album was the best in your eyes(B'day is for me), then she's capable of giving that same sound then. I just think the expections for what they want her to be are way too high. It comes with having 16 grammys I guess. And this one song is not the full judgement for the whole album. From what I know, she is going to give a balance of uptempos, ballads and even mids(and she don't do a lot of mids) with this upcoming album and it is going to be beat driven which I think suits her actually musically.
I think she really should have gone this direction with her music:
But would you and others support it if she did that? Would you say that she need to go outside of that if that's what she did consistently sonically? Maybe she does need to be more introspective with her lyrics, I don't know but for me, and it is not just her but other entertainers, people critique rather than enjoy these days.

What?
Her new song is a childish anthem for tween girls. She is a grown woman. I don't support her now BECAUSE her music is childish and immature and I'm a grown man and not a kid. I posted this song because it is one of the few songs I can listen to of hers repeatedly. Her talent isn't at question as far as I'm concerned. Its just like when Prince was trying to school her on music when they did that duet - when you see someone like her with the type of talent she has, you can't help but want her to do better when you know she is not doing the best she can do. At some point, she has to grow up musically. This chick is almost 30 years old and she's singing the same stuff she was when she was in DC and she's singing it over kiddie tracks. Her music is forgettable. She should be trying to make music that lasts for years to come.
Her ugly as fuck shoes made it really hard to watch this video.
I wish if she was going to go military, like really go for it. It just seems as if she's trying to replicate Single Ladies, but with an actual setting this time and more outlandish clothing.
I think it's about her doing what sells and what's safe, because she has to eat. She knows that if she puts out a record like this, she might turn off some people, but her core fan-base will still buy it. That fan-base, consist of teen girls and mostly in general, not middle aged men. After hearing this song, I can see just how much her dad's presence, is missed.
"Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"
I think the thing is that she’s too deep in the game to still be doing this content in her music she’s not old like that but too old compared to the other female artists. She supposed to be leading the pack not following and going backwards. But this is what she’s known for so it shouldn’t be a surprise she still on this kiddie mess I guess more people are just opening their eyes and are bored. I like her but it’s just really tired now it’s time for a Destiny Child reunion.

she did NOT live up to my expectations which is why i am not a real fan anymore.
Bey is NOT great at what she does, compare her to mariah and janet. She can't compete with mariah's singing and she can't compete with janet's dancing.
She is in between and average at both singing and dancing. Let me hear her sing a mariah song and dance like janet jackson rhythm nation or IF.
You have to practice at your talent, but if its not given from god it won't look natural or that great. Beyonce looks like she took vocal lessons to become an okay singer, and maybe a few dance lessons to coochie pop.
I don't care about grammy's that her dad paid for. All this hype and no substance. NOTHING. people are really seeing beyonce for who she really is: A FRAUD.

I have to disagree with this. If Beyonce does not have a great voice then I'm not sure then what is a great singing voice. Mariah is a good singer, but she's Mariah. Beyonce can sing, and she can dance. I would like anyone here to try getting up on stage and dancing in heels the way she does. Its her material that sucks. She need good songs, she has failed to show any growth. She has the talent but she rather rely on stupid anthem songs and gimmicks, when all she has to do is let her natural talent shine through. Shame what a waste.
