You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

And today I saw this article and it made me smile... http://www.rollingstone.c...f-20110322 You don't have to like Japanese artist to show support^^; But I love when American artists or celebs do benefit concerts or do something to show they sincerely care......

Mr.Sakamoto...
and that's about it
when it comes to Japanese or "asian" music, I certainly prefer folklore or ancient tunes...
don't get me wrong, I can sit through japanese pop/rock (Spotify, Youtube, etc), but I'll be damned if I'm gonna buy the albums [Edited 3/24/11 15:16pm]

I went to see these guys live years ago, in Bristol, I think, they were cute and quite rocky.

I received an email today announcing this show which inspired the thread:

There was this sort of funk/fusion band that I listened to in the 90's. Strangely, I think they were called Funkadelic, but I can't find them now (for obvious reasons) My Legacy

Hehe. Gackt (center) does look Bowie-ish in that pic.

I'm a huge fan of Kimiko Itoh, the Jazz singer. Hope she's okay over there. If y'all wanna check out a beautiful, creamy voice, here is a partial listing of some of her titles:
For Lovers Only 1987 Columbia/CBS Follow Me 1989 Columbia/CBS Sophisticated Lady 1994 Satellites Records Live at Montreaux featuring Makoto Ozone (Oh-zone-ay) An Evening With CD and/or DVD (I LOVE the DVD myself!)
Check her out. She's a huge fan of Nancy Wilson's.

Omg don't even get me started on that Cowboy Bebop sountrack. I collected all of them when I was younger. It's probably one of my favorite anime soundtracks.
These are some of my favorite songs/artists:
Normally I can't stand Utada Hikaru, but I really like this song.

I don't know any except for this one song that I've always loved....
Andy is a four letter word.

Ryuichi Sakamoto Government Alpha Merzbow Otomo Yoshihide Toshiki Kadomatsu (^__^)
I've been made to believe the order of appearance for the "first" and the "last" names sometimes varies according to whether the release is intended for the Japanese or the Western market. They sometimes seem to flip 'em around.

the first time i ever heard gackt was his cover of STEVIE'S 'fire'.
i have a house-mate who's an expert in j-pop (and is fluent in kanji), so i find out a little more about it through her.

It's threads like this that make the org's nuttiness so worth it all. I love Ryuichi Sakamoto, but aside from him, Shonen Knife and the 5,6,7,8s, I know nothing about contemporary Japanese music. I definitely need to check out some of these bands. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I can't stand Gackt. I find his singing to be godawful. I can't even believe that people find Hyde to be the inferior singer.
Well, whatever, I have had the pleasure of seeing a lot of my favorite acts live in the States. Here's one who is up and coming:
I, briefly, saw her perform. She would do some hand movements in this huge dress and then go back and play her cello.
