This is definitely one of my favorite songs from the Chaka/Rufus canon. So epic and thought-provoking. The message and string arrangements just hit me everytime I hear it. WOW! music

Yes! Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan was just a slammin' album and this song is so underappreciated.

I had a dream...

I was sitting in a car listening to Little Boy Blue by Chaka Khan (Rufus). I was overwhelmed and crying deeply. The song ends and I come out of the vehicle and I am up in the mountains at a gas stop with a little convenience store attached to it. I was in the parking lot with someone I love very much and we were holding hands. We were traveling somewhere, perhaps a cabin or maybe our home. I remember the feeling of absolute comfort at the thought of arriving at our destination.
We were in the parking lot looking out onto this beautiful expanse of mountains. Some had bright green grass all over and other mountains had snow and some were a mixture of both. The interesting thing is that the mountains at the higher elevations had the grass and the lower mountains were full of snow. The ones in the middle were the mix of both.
I had to use the restroom and I went in there with the intent to take a shower. When I got in there, there was no shower so I used some towels to clean myself the best I could and then someone started banging on the door saying "we know you're in there!" I didn't concern myself that someone was trying to get in so I just finished cleaning myself and when I opened the door it was a father and son.
The father was in his sixties and the son was late thirties or early forties. I thought there would be a confrontation since he was so anxiously banging on the door but I open the door and noticed the dad was crying as he stared at me and his son had a look of astonishment on his face. The son grabbed me and turned me so that the mountains were the backdrop against me and he was saying so many beautiful things to me. It was as if he turned me around so that the mountains would be my clothing or that I would be clad in mountains or that it would be a mountain robe.
I remember being surprised, but enthralled. The son was telling me about my beauty and my strength and I felt a deep sense of peace and knowing of my purity.

Yeah I know. hug I can understand why. It's starting to touch me in the same way. I get something from her and Aretha that I can't get from any other female performer. smile

I'm sooooo sorry Rufus and Chaka never did an acoustic album of their noted works. "Little boy Blue", is amongst my favorites and it's been a while since I've listened to it.

Thanks for posting this Timmy.

I wish she would add this song to her concert songlist. I don't care which messageboard I go to, whenever "Little Boy Blue" is mentioned, there's usually a strong response to it.

kibbles

my mom had this album when i was a little girl.

recently i was visiting her in san fran where she lives now and i brought the cd with me. she had downloaded a few songs from itunes, and i asked her if she wanted to burn the cd or just a few songs from it, and i mentioned 'sweet thing' in particular since that had been the big hit off the album when it was released.

she said 'no, just 'little boy blue'.

it's a great song. i feel a little sad for some of you who only came to know this music in your adulthood. i was blessed, i think, to have grown up at a time when melody, message, and instrumentation were just taken for granted. i think about it every time i turn my dial to the r&b station, only to turn it off again b/c i can barely stand to listen to what passes for r&b/soul music these days. sad

I know it's disappointing but for me, discovering the older gems is a treat for me. I treat it like new albums whenever I listen to it, years be damned. lol smile
