I suppose I'm the odd man out here in that I listen to mostly current music like Dum Dum Girls, Joanna Newsom, Goldfrapp, etc.

Having said that though, I have been listening to 60s music almost exclusively over the last few weeks in preparation for the current org music poll. Once that's over I'm sure I'll go back to listening to new music most of the time.

i don't really listen to newer music at all. i find that the stuff i hear these days, it's got too much going on. it's overstimulating.

There is so much great 60's music, just the thought of all the music to consider blows my little ADHD mind. Let's just say it was the greatest era of pop music ever.

The Beatles alone could fill the top 20, but then there is still JB, The Stones,.... not to mention all those awesome one hit wonders....

And how's that any worse than jumping onto the next big thing every other month because of the hype and just throw the previous stuff away? I'm all for going against the "music used to be GOOD back then because I SAY SO" movement but why's it bad if had you already found your fav kinda music and any new stuff would only make you feel like "why spend time trying to get into new stuff when I still enjoy playing an old artist for the millionth time"? If one says "the 1980s had the best music because of Prince etc" it's not like you can challenge that with "but you're stupid!". Aren't there thousands, if not millions who never bothered to check out anything else than Beatles or Elvis? That doesn't make them "irrelevant" or anything...

I rarely listen to 'new' music anymore. I got sick of waiting for something good to come along so went back to the 60s and got into The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and The Doors and even 80s bands like Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys. I'll always listen to my 2 favourites Madonna and Prince, no matter what. I'm enjoying discovering classic acts from years gone by rather than enduring another manufactured act.

Musical acts of The Sixties, Seventies, Eighties and a little Nineties.

Since rap/hip-hop started to dominate, the music/talent factor dimnished.

The new breed of folks like Rihanna, Ciara, Ashanti, Justin Beiber, Lady Gaga, etc. are projectile vomit mode.

R&B died and went to auto-tune and emulate hip-hop hell.

I find myself listening to Tower of Power, Aretha, Sade, Chaka, Jeff Beck,

Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Edgar Winter, Rick Derringer, Midnight

Star, SOS Band, Lauryn Hill (MisEducation of only), Howard Hewett and Leon Haywood.

We used to say that our parents were stuck in the 50s and 60s.

People tend to cling to the music of their youth.

Those of us who listen to older music than that, have learned to appreciate what we missed.

This is a bit odd question to me, because I don't think I know anyone that wouldn't listen to "older artists" on a regular basis. That doesn't apply to just music enthusiasts who have hundreds or thousands of records, but people that aren't as interested in music also have records that were released in the past decades. The only ones that listen new music exclusively would seem to be teenagers, but I'm not sure why that should be taken as an indication what the general tastes of people are like.

I'd flip the question. Does anybody listen 2 newer artist? I listen to 95% older artist.

When I say most of the time, that would mean around 60/40 in favor of newer artitsts.

I have to admit, I've checked artists from this generation that I wouldn't have known about had I went to other sites, some punk, rock, Brit acts. I do like Adele a lot. And I do listen to Janelle when I get a chance.

I still do, and my daughter used to call me an old fossil for it. Now, she joins the bandwagon

I just let my son listen to ABC's "UP" album, he's 18 and was like

I don't know if it's because the older music is what I grew up on that plays a big part as to WHY I kill the older music so much on constant rotation.....or is it that when something new comes out that has that older sound we only support it because it reminds us of the past like for say LaRoux I love her! But will she last with that 80's sound?

James Brown music is so funky that that "stench" will be swirling around in our grandchildrens ears, and on and on...it just don't get any better...you can copy but we will all know who paved the way.

I may venture out and visit other eras...but the 80's is my home base. I cant get out.

Once I have overstayed my welcome in other time periods..I LIVE in the 80's.

The 70's are alright too..but ..without those synths and hard beats I feel like something is missing..fifties and sixties are fun too sometimes...90's are fun especially for dance music...2000's are kind of some return to funk and some nice jams....
