Lovely Day will remain a timeless classic.
And if Grandma's Hands don't move you - you better check your pulse. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

OMG, did that get you too? That broke me up.
There's alot of heaviness in his personality, and through the interview all I could say under my breath was "Damn manic depression".
Having said that, he had a great career/legacy that many aspired and struggling artists nowadays would lose a human organ just to have, even though it was pretty short lived.

bill withers is america's poet laureate. no joke. he hardly gets any credit for what he's done. 'hello like before' is one the greatest songs of all times.

Here's an 2007 interview. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Mr. Withers . . . salt of the earth.
In an industry where keeping it macho above all else is the rule, I've admired Mr. Withers vulnerability.
