'baby be mine' is the jam. esp that bridge "won't u stay with me until the morning sun..." holyyyyy

so is 'just good friends' makes me wanna whip out the hammer pants and break it down. its like a time transport to the 80s.

prince stuff i'd say definitely all those interludes on "gold" and the symbol album (wtf ever yall call it)

otherwise? hmm i'd say my vote for weak song on classic album goes to (drumroll please)...

"spanish eyes" on like a prayer

"love song #2" (the so happy you're here one) on comfort woman

"mars" on kaleidoscope (its fun but its really stupid)

i'm sure there are many more but they usually are skipped, forgotten, and deleted.

baby be mine - ok seriously, that's one of the STRONGEST on the album. Just michael's vocals ALONE are enough to make a gay woman or a straight man jump on his junk lol

Have a talk with God, Love's in need of love today, Village Ghetto Land, Past time paradise...that REALLY hurt my feelings! not 2 days ago on FB did i name these EXACT songs as reasons why I LOVE AND ADORE stevie wonder. (literally these exact same songs. i'll get my post if you don't believe me lol) those songs are not only genius, but thought and emotion provoking. he brings social and civil consciousness with these songs and to me, that's what makes them beautiful.

Eh, don't feel bad. My opinion means a lot to me but to you it is absolutely meaningless. If in your mind they are great songs that is all that matters. I am not really drawn to lyrics, I'm much more interested in the music which seems to be the opposite of what you like about these songs so it seems natural that we would have differing opinions about them.

Of course it's just my opinion. The original poster cited "Baby Be Mine" as a weak track and it's probably my favourite song on Thriller.

Agreed, and I'd rank it way above Thriller as a single. As a standalone song I actually think Thriller is weak. Without the video I doubt it would have the legacy.

I'll agree with this to an extent. "Thriller" is probably my least favorite song on the album. Would i call it weak? No. not by any means. For Michael, the song "Thriller" is an average song. If that song would have been released under any other artist, it would be a MASTERPIECE for them. Michael's average is ANYONE ELSE'S perfection. That's just the way it is.

I'll add a song to this, and i know i'll get a LOT of flack from this...

You Are Not Alone from HIStory. by FAR my least favorite song he's ever released. if he didn't sing it, i wouldn't even somewhat like it. And when its surrounded by the GENIUS that is HIStory, it just falls in the cracks for me. but that's what you get when you put an R kelly track on a genius Michael Jackson album

You are more than entitled to your opinion. I'm not mad about it smile i don't agree at all lol, but that's ok. Musically and lyrically, i think all of those songs mentioned are genius. Stevie isn't affraid to step outside of the box and make music that is beautiful, but is a FAR CRY from "radio friendly" or a song that the general public would enjoy. He makes music that is beautiful and meaningful for him. and to me, he is a genius and those songs are the reason why i love him so much.

Prince - 1999

Something In The Water (Does Not Compute)

Both great. No pass needed.

I chose those songs because to me, while I wouldn't mind listening to them, they don't register with me the same way that 1999, Little Red Corvette, DMSR, Automatic, and International Lover do. The same goes for my Thriller song choices and U2 as well. I'm not saying that these songs suck (they don't), but that thematically they are weak compared to the other songs on the album.

I might catch some heat for this but as for as weak songs on the Thriller album, The Girl Is Mine is mediocre but I believe the weakest track on that album is Thriller.

With the exception of the Vincent Price rap, that song is weak. That song is more visual than audio, the video actually enhances the song. I can't really listen to that song without the video.

I agree. The title track was never one of my favorites from the album. The lyrics are silly and it's just not a very interesting song, musically.Of course, the video is amazing but the song is weak compared to the other tracks.

I prefer the second half of Nevermind

Drain You - Lounge Act - Stay Away - On A Plain - Something In The Way = worship worship worship worship worship

Territorial Pissings is short shrug but Lounge Act is ecstatic awesomeness, I seriously love that song.

I love how he made it sinister & upbeat at the same time.

I would've enjoyed LoveSexy more if it was tracked though.

Agreed. At least Dance On has character. It doesn't sound like anything else, unlike so much of his more recent stuff.

I for one, find this discourse fascinating. One of the things that makes The Org special is the diveersity of folks here....backgrounds, ages, tastes, opinions.

Even songs that many consider ubiqiquitous & sacrosanct...others are more than willing to chuck 'em under the bus.

How about "Revolution 9" on The Beatles? I guess one could argue that it's not really a song but it does kind of stop the momentum on that side of the album dead.

I like Credit Card Baby, but was never that drawn to Heartbeat. It sounds like it could be the theme song for Punky Brewster, Valerie/Hogan Family, or Webster. lol

Anything involving Noel Redding on a Jimi Hendrix Experience album! confused

Several of John Entwistle's songs on various Who albums, tho the songs were good many times they didn't fit the whole album IMHO.

*Cobwebs and Strange (A Quick One)

*My Wife (Who's Next)

Cream

EC's 1st effort *"Anyone for Tennis" (later Cream/EC comps)

*"Toad" arguably (Fresh Cream) but it's rather a unique track, so I don't know

Many fans HATE "Mother's Lament" (Disreali Gears) but I adore it.

EC (Eric Clapton)

*"Lay Down Sally"---Slowhand (I HATE this song passionately)

I think those are two of the most important songs on there thematically. "Something in the Water" is the height of his paranoia, and the stuttering, tense percussion sells it so well, while "All the Critics Love U in New York" displays his brash and bold badassness more than any other track on there, I think.
