I actually cannot believe what i have read in this thread, absolutely hilarious....unbelievable.

....Man, i actually laughed out loud to the absurdity spoken here. Music Non Prince is something else lol. It's to the point where you just laugh at what's said here rather than debate lol.

Hey, if that's what passes for funk in your house...

Aside from Lavaux, I don't even find any of the others remotely interesting. They lack feeling. At least Maroon 5 is still feeling it. Old Prince is much funkier than anything he's done in the past 15 years.

Here you go again!

You saved yourself from an attack by giving props to Lavaux, so I have nothing else to add.

You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

what's so absurd that you find hilarious?

it's not a given that prince is funky, you know. I don't think he's been legitimately funky in many years.

Just because you have one funk song on your album does not mean that you are "funkier than Prince"..lets not get it twisted.

I cant stand when people say someone is better than someone else because of one song copying their style.. Reminds me of that whole The Dream "Yamaha" thread..NOTHING on the rest of that album was Prince like other than Yamaha....but could write off Beginning Endlessly, Act Of God, Compassion, Sticky Like Glue in one minute because of one song.... disbelief

Now..I love Maroon 5, and they have their funky moments, but that's about it.

Co-sign they are a good band but as far as Funk they are not at P's level. Some some of you orger are going to look back and see the last 3 Prince CDs are filled with great funk tracks.

Please. I like Prince too but their was nothing funky about Planet Earth.

I'll give you 3121 and Dance 4 Me from Lotus Flower. 2010 was a waste.

Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

There is an irony to this thread because I am certain if you asked Maroon 5 who their greatest musical inspiration would be for this song they'd say Prince.

I love the HELL out of "Lavaux". Definately one of the best songs he's done in recent years. I enjoyed most of his latest album much more than his other recent ones....that is except for that damn hideous hidden track that wasn't hidden well enough. lol

I agree."Lavaux" is dope headbang the 2010 album is pretty good too.

I think Maroon 5 (along with bands like them) are what Prince used to be, in that they take all of their inspirations and meld them together into their own sound.

Prince did it with Stevie Wonder/Parliament/Santana/Hendrix/etc. and had huge success while adding his own signature sounds too.

This generation is now adding Prince to that equation, simple as that.

Im talking as a whole..an embodiment of work from an artist that made more than just ONE funk jam on the album......I can get about one new funk jam from some artists on an album, but give me someone who IS actually funkier than Prince's latest material as a whole.... I want the receipts...

Planet Earth was the weakest out of this past decade but if only think two cuts are funky out of the whole lot you got a hearing problem.

Let's all be honest no one in commercial radio is going to play any serious gut bucket funk. I seriously doubt if a large audience exist for that type of music. I know it does not exsist on the org.

What makes P really good at what he does his the diversity you find in his music. The last group of cds have included everything from funk, pop, rnb and rock. You are not finding anybody streching out with that many styles of music on one cd these days and with the state of music industry as it is. It is unlikely that we will ever see diversity again in popular music.

Therefore funk or no funk P beats a band like Maroon 5 hands down. I also have never heard so many people be hostile toward about a singers voice like so many people are with Maroon 5.

At least P does not have the problem.

Consistently funkier albums. The irony being, P's rumored to have played on at least one of those albums... lol

Hmmm....first off....NOT funkier than P...imo

I liked most of M5's first album. I liked the big hit off the second album too. But that's about it. Some of their most recent stuff kinda bugs me. Not sure why, but it does.confused

To answer the question, I don't think it's funkier, but it's decent. I wished they actually do a real funk album...that is if they're capable of producing one. lol

Funny, I'm the opposite. I absolutely adore "This Love" and I like "She Will Be Loved," but that's about it from the first album. OTOH, the second album is all killer, no filler (even the b-sides) and this new one is in that same vein IMO.

This is funky pop. Having finally listened to the track, that's how I'd characterize it. Funky bass, guitar, keys sounds. But the tempo and the auto-tune keep it from being real to me.

Haven't heard b-sides from OTOH. Until then, I think I'll revisit OTOH.

Thanks AP, cool

You're welcome. To be honest, I need to revisit it as well. I haven't heard it in a while, but I know I really liked it. I'll give it a spin this week.

Maroon 5 is making good pop funk. At this point, what they are doing has much more of a groove to it than Prince's newer material.

Funkier than Prince?!?!

That is some high-grade crack you're smoking.

Is the song funky? Sure. It's got a little stank to it. But to be funkier than Prince, you gotta be dropping sweaty funk-bombs and moving funk-drenched dancefloors with tens of thousands of people, night after night after night after night for about 32 years.

Funkier than Prince... sheeeeesh.

My feet get funkier walking to the 7-11 with a Prince song in my headphones.

Oh, I don't know. It can't fuck with "Lavaux". I just wonder if they have any sellout shit on their album because Prince definately does....that damn disgrace of a hidden track. He loses major points for that one. It's a shitty shit hop mess!

I need somebody that ain't gonna kiss no damn ass and sell out.
