Goes hand in hand with the state of the industry. Possibly.

I come here less and less. I've not much positive to say about 'new' music.. I'm a geek so i spend a lot of time at Digitalspy.com, superherohype or AICN and other *ahem* 'entertainment' forums.

Here's my question about that. I used to rely on this forum to find out about new artist but since this place has slowed down, I now rely on starting FB status updates asking people to share their new discoveries. And then I read a top twenty list like this one: http://www.pastemagazine....-2010.html and I realize, damn, there's a lot of new music acts I haven't a clue about.

So, my question is this, are these artist to whack or are we just not talking about them here?

Several of those albums are indeed great, but I, too, don't know most of them!

Here are some others whose posts I miss:

damosuzuki

paligap

Mara

Christopher

To be honest, I've been a lot less active here than normal, too. Other than the polls, I haven't really gotten into much discussion here. sad

I think the other thing is... even though we all like to listen to music that is under the radar, it can be hard to get everyone on board during the two days the thread is active when they've never heard of the artist.

So true! Case in point: I started this thread in hopes of discussion and my own education about nick nicely, but nobody has bitten.

So, is there anything that can be done to jazz up this forum? I think the random choices by mods on which artist are forced on one thread is kind of a symbolic deathkill for the forum IMHO.

1. Prince can start making albums that are worth buying! We need funk & dance-pop tracks only. No more jazzy shit!!!

2. Prince also needs to get into a war of words with half of today's young artists. He needs to accuse Lady Gaga & Nicki Minaj for not giving Vanity OR Camera Electra any respect for influences. Prince needs to tell Usher to stay off of Michael's nuts. Prince needs to tell all hip-hop & hip-pop acts to stay off of George Clinton's nuts AND Afrika Bambadaa's nuts with all of that damn beat-biting.

If THIS^ happen, all of the forums of prince.org will definitely get interesting again. Honest! biggrin

I've never understood why the threads need to lock and lock so soon!

It's not conducive to good discussion and creates a whole lot more threads than there needs to be, because if you search for a topic and find a thread that matches whats on your mind, you can't add to it, you have to start again or just forgeddaboudit...

I wonder if this policy can be reconsidered?

And also I hate the grouping of subject threads into one artist topic ie MJ.

It's fair enough and makes total sense if a mod groups locks a topic if there's already a RELEVANT discussion going on, thats great as we want to see all the comments on that particular subject.

But, discussing MJ's Dangerous album has nothing to do with discussing whether his vocals are legit on the latest song. So what if there's a half dozen topics going on at any one time?

Shouldn't there be some kind of democracy on this? After all, it's the participants that make the forum. It wasn't like that when I joined up...it was better!

Doesn't mean I wanna quit, but there's nothing wrong with looking at improvements!

On this issue, I would agree. There may be some specific thing that I may want to discuss about Michael Jackson (...just for example). I would not be interested in tagging on to a thread that's already 10 pages long to discuss a single issue that no one else may be discussing in that same thread already. I rarely, if ever, even look at those single artist stickies. Much too much to wade through to get to something that may be relevant to me.

The people complaining about the forum need to start throwing down.

Reliance on one person to keep things alive isn't going 2 work in the long run.

Word. I really, REALLY enjoy discussing and reading others thoughts on music, but I just don't have the time to wade through 100's of irrelevant (to me) posts on those single artist posts...so I don't post as much as before they started doing those here.
