Most tragic disco songs ever

What do you think is the most tragic disco song ever made.

In that sense, means it can sound bad, be badly made or just basically not a quality example of this fine genre.

Some Hints

Look at washed up has beens that do disco to revive careers (Eg Ethel Merman, The Discofied version of Volare)

Eurodisco and Italodisco, any disco with bad vocals or English as a second language lyrics (Eg I wanna love u tender Danni and Armi, BIM by ???? in the Apple, Baccarat)

Songs that just sound too novelty to be real disco like Disco Duck, or Get dancing.

Just some rules

1. Song must be disco or dance like genre

2. Must date from between 1972/1983 (This is pretty generous as disco was only really big between 1976/80)

3. Has to be a real song with chart realease

4. Album and Movie soundtrack albums are allowed

5. No hate

6. Choose up to 20 songs

Oh yes, I thought it was quite cute and camp at the strt, but it gets cliched about a minute in. Any disco song that actually mentions the word Disco in the lyrics you know is going to be bad. A good example D.I.S.C.O by Martinquian French Disco twosome Ottawan.

I saw Alicia Bridges perform "I Love The Nightlife" at Circus Disco in Hollywood back in the very early 80's (82 or 83 I believe). I don't know what she had done to piss-off the management, but about halfway through the song, they cut the feed to her mic and turned off the stage lights, leaving her to just walk off the stage with her head hung down. I never saw or heard of her performing after that.

Now THAT was TRAGIC!

Italo disco rules. I don't think it should be slighted at all, and think it's generally an improvement on traditional disco. biggrin

Ladies and gentlemen, we have the winner, when I watched this, I was like What the fuck:-o , when the ironing board girls come out and the gay hippie thing on the keyboards start grinning, this made all the disco songs on the Apple seem like Donna Summer.

Is this from Eastern Europe or Molvania

Yeah, she had an ego that wouldn't quit. First, a no talent voice that was accoladed by everyone on Broadway. And then, in her later years, making apprearances on shows like Love Boat and all the demands she made! Gotta admire the fact that she was a major diva until the end, though! When you say Merman Bullshit, are you referring to stuff like this:

What is also tragic is that song getting cut out of the disco dancefloor scene of Love At First Bite. It was a pivotal scene when Count Vladimir and Cindy connected, but on video that song was removed and replaced with a horrible song that I don't know.

That is one of my favorite Dracula movies--a classic! But I don't know what version you saw. The one I have seen has the "I Love The Night Life" song in it. How can you cut that song?! It is pivotal to the whole comedic yet moving story line! eek

I remember a song or two from this album being semi-popular at one of the clubs I used to go to at that time. Must have been the camp factor that got it over, lol (...and they don't get much campier than Ethel Merman - except for perhaps Mae West). I always rather liked Ethel Merman. shrug

I'm glad that you liked Ethel Merman, but for me her voice equaled Ethyl Alcohol and peeled the paint off me every time I heard her sing! Much less the Disco versions! And I am a fan of great musicals. Give me Barbra any day of the week! Donna Summer & Barbra=Disco Heaven! lol

Hell the fact that someone that legendary had to do something just to get press for herself is sad in itself.

I know Ethel and disco are camp but when together, it can be a bad mixture. confused

lol I understand, lol. It's not that I thought Ethel Merman had a lovely voice, it was her attitude, and the way she would belt them songs out, lol. It took Eartha Kitt in 1983 to show ALL them old girls how Disco should be done:

Actually, I'm kinda surprised you've never heard it. It was rather HOT, and got a lot of play in the clubs. Perhaps I'm just dating myself, lol. But "Where Is My Man" was a popular hit of hers.
