This has to be the Worst summer for R&B & Hip Hop....EVER..

Remember how back in the day as soon as summer hit... so did the new jams. There hasn't been any good music released this summer at all. It seems like a black hole for music. Unless I've missed something....Please let me know.

R&B has been fucked up for damn near 20 years, all year long, not just in the summertime.

Andy is a four letter word.

I'm a roots fan but I'm not feeling that one. I also think Big Boi's CD is terrible. Big boi ain't nothing without Andre 3000. Outkast needs to get back together. Eminem is Terrible. He either has an angry flow or he sounds silly. He needs to mature with his music. I will check out that Celo and Prince. I haven't liked prince stuff since early 2001. He is too much of a religious freak and has lost his creativity. With that said I will still check out 2-ten. I'm usually on the same page with gray cap on music and sports though.

Janelle Monae has put out one of the most exciting albums I ever heard in some time (though she's probably not what you call "R&B" or "hip-hop") and Cee-Lo's mixtape is bonkers. nod

Oh no... disbelief Raekwon tried to make a sequel to his first album and that was some old tiring bullshit. I hope it doesn't turn into that.

Anyway, OP where have you for the pass 7 years? lol The only thing that I'm truly looking foward to is Kanye, Ludacris, not so much now, (but I still go love for him) . lol

There is still good music out there, but it does take a lot of effort to find it.

I second those who mentioned the Roots and Janelle Monae as quality albums. I really liked Erykah's album when it came out but have not played it lately.

Some of my other favorites this year are the new Lenny White, Cool Million - Back For More, Andy Compton - Kholoefelo, Paul Randolph - Echoes of Lonely Eden, and M-Swift - Evening Sun (came out in 2009 but is slamming).

I agree. Going back to Jazzie Jeff and the Fresh Prince's "Summertime" and Juvenile's "Back That Thing Up" there has always been at least one song that you could listen to and say " this is this year's summertime anthem." But, not this year. Is it because of the options or lack thereof or is it because of our individual musical taste have grown? Idk.
