Which album does 20ten have to beat to take the spot of album of 2010 so far? Which album does 20ten have to beat to take the spot of album of 2010 so far? And do you think it could take your top spot?
Mine so far is LCD Soundsystem.
And yes I do think it could take the top spot.
I think This is Happening is a strong Album but not as good as their excellent Sound Of Silver.

Without a doubt, this one:
That might be totally against the grain to claim Prince's new record will try to beat this epic, but by far Janelle's, Sharon Jones' and Erykah's new albums are the only albums of the year so far that have impressed me. I pray that Prince can take the cake, but based on the samples I've heard...it's gonna be a hard road for him this year. [Edited 7/7/10 10:33am] Check me out and add me on:

Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid
N'Dambi - Pink Elephant
Macy Gray - The Sellout
All fuckin brilliant albums. Prince knows the future is in the hands of other folks? Yeah, THESE are some of the folks.

Hell, it will be the only new album I've bought in 2010 just like Prince albums are the only new albums I've bought in the 2000s except for two years when I bought a new Jamiroquai album. Andy is a four letter word.

I'd compare this scenario to LaDanian Tomlinson attempting to gain more yards than Chris Johnson in the upcoming NFL season. In his prime, LT could have easily done it, but now, it's harder to compete with the younger guns.
I'd say Monae and/or Badu have the albums to beat but there are probably plenty of candidates out there or to come. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

It's best to just hear the whole album. It's like trying to pick out "New Position" out of the context of Parade. It's a package deal, really.
On another thread, I stated a couple of things about the album that might be insightful as a new listener: http://prince.org/msg/7/3...sg_7533205

Yes, her new album is really best heard in its entirety, without any sudden interruptions or skips or repeats. It reminded me of a 21-century version of Parade with the scope and sprawl of Songs In The Key of Life and Sign 'O' The Times, fused with alittle bit of what Andre 3000 did with The Love Below. Comparing it to other classics only diminishes what this album is about anyway because it is that good. No lie! The only thing that will distract you (which shouldn't distract you) is that it was released under P. Diddy's label (along with her previous brilliant EP). Check me out and add me on:

That is very interesting you should mention Songs In The key Of Life, my friend and i were listening to ArchAndroid the other day, and she mentioned that it was a Key Of Life for the 21st century.

Ahh yes, i keep forgetting all these great albums. Her 1st album was really good, she made it with the french duo "Air". This one is her collaboration with Beck, i love her subdued whispery vocals combined with Becks quirky songwriting, a great album indeed.

I'm slowly getting over Janelle Monae....

I do recognize that Janelle Monae talented. But, I listened to her new album and I was not that impressed. I guess it's different strokes for different folks. Her voice is nice, but the music did nothing for me. And this whole "Futuristic Spacegirl" theme is soooooo played out. She needs a new gimmick. Perhaps that's what I can't get around...her whole style is kinda wack IMHO.
Back on topic. It won't be hard for Prince to have the best album of 2010. Seeing as though there haven't really been any GREAT albums that I have heard yet. But, I'm fully prepared to be dissapointed.

Not even an album, but a free mixtape (it doesn't sound like a typical mixtape, though, so don't let that term put you off) is in my top spot as of right now...Cee-Lo Green - Stray Bullets. I wasn't even a Cee-Lo fan prior to this.
I also thoroughly loved... The Black Keys - Brothers Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid
Honorable mention... Corinne Bailey Rae - The Sea
[Edit: I just found out that Grupo Fantasma released a new album, and I had no clue. I'm listening to the samples right now, and once I get the album, I'm sure it will place somewhere in my list.]
And yes, I could see Prince taking my top spot. The samples sounded promising to me. Although his output is very hit and miss for me, I have no bias against his more recent music. I take each song/album as it comes. Lotusflow3r (single disc) was my favorite album last year.

This Is Happening is my second favorite album of the year. I love it! I agree that it's not as great as Sound of Silver, but that album is in my permanent top 20.
So far, it's:
Janelle Monae LCD Soundsystem Kylie Minogue Gorillaz
I think Prince will come in 5th, but he could be overtaken by the likes of Chromeo, !!! and Arcade Fire, all of whom have new albums on the way. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Even though this album came out October of last year, I'll say "Devil's Halo" by Meshell Ndegeocello.
