I really don't get how people can say that Chris Brown's performance of "Man in the Mirror" was funny at all. And most of all I don't get how people are saying that he really wasn't crying or it was all an act. Please. There are just going to be some cold, hardcore angry ass, non-forgiving people no matter what. I feel that his performance was genuine, he worked hard, and it paid off. He did an excellent job with his performance. I wouldn't have preferred for him to be sobbing through the last piece of the performance but that's how he felt. People really do forget that EVERYONE does have emotions. Everybody's made mistakes in their lives, there isn't one PERFECT person in the world let alone on the ORG. So there I said it. And that's my rant for the day. biggrin

[Edited 6/29/10 5:18am]

I agree with everything you said, I felt he was genuine..... I won't even bothered to respond to some orgers who said that he cried because of his personal problems confused Give me a break, how did you know? you live inside of him? rolleyes I really don't understand...you simply don't know....

I'm not a chris brown fan, never was and never will be, but I felt he was honest.

We don't know but I don't think that you can blame people for being cynical. Dude has a history of making things about himself. Also, deciding on singing MITM wasn't some random ass decision. He and his team knew what was up. As I said before, no one knows what was going through his head, but I don't blame people for going hmmm

well he is certainly getting much press and attention over his breakdown. What I truly hope is that hes has looked in a mirror and made a change. He is a talented young man but what he did was a shame and it's also sad that he has to rebuild his career off of Michael's death!

No luv for Esperanza Spalding? I thought she did a good job on If I Was Your Girlfriend.

I want to talk about these fools, but enough has already been said. Somebody PLEASE shoot Diddy before he promotes again.

Did anyone watch the aftershow? Am I the only one who got SICK of those twins in the blue dresses trying to ham it up for the camera every chance they got? Okay. I'm done.

El kill't it.

Chris kill't it.

Esperanza kill't it

Fergie looked less like a whore than I expected.

Jada looked more like I whore than I expected

Nicki Minaj looked as much like a whoe as I expected.

lol

Okay, I'mma stop.

Esperanza Spalding is dope, I've seen her before, very talented. But, I have to say, I absolutely hate when women do when "If Was Your Girlfriend". This is one of his most cleverly written songs and it wipes out the whole meaning behind the song when it's sung by a female. That being said, I didn't enjoy that performance for that reason only. Outside of Patti, I was not impressed with the tribute performances and most of it had to do with the songs they chose to sing. Trey Songz sounded like he ate a goat.

hah! Fergie looked less like a whore than I expected.

Jada looked more like I whore than I expected

Nicki Minaj looked as much like a whoe as I expected.

Best parts of the show:

Until El's performance surprised everyone, I didn't think anything else could compete with the MJ tribute. That was the high point of the program, and I have never been a fan of Chris Brown. EVER. But I was actually speechless. Impersonation or not, I was impressed, for the very first time, 'cause that was the BEST MJ-dancing Chris has ever done. His tributes in the years past were all horrible since he could never get any of Michael's moves right. But last night, Chris was almost totally accurate, unlike Usher, Timberlake, Omarion, Ne-Yo, all of those other dudes when they've attempted Michael's choreography. It's just too bad he couldn't get through Man In The Mirror. That could have been the segment where Chris just performed as himself. However, I understood those tears....The only bad part is, while he most likely was crying about Michael, the way he was tearing up so intensely made it kinda seem like he was thinking more about his own problems and finally being on stage moreso than MJ's tragedy. Who knows. Nonetheless, Chris stole the show. I was surprised Prince showed up after that. lol

I agree with every word of this. It's the reason why I randomly disappeared from the org right after I saw it. It made me almost careless about anything else that happened. I was left speechless. SPEECHLESS. Easily the best BET performance I've ever seen and best MJ tribute I've seen on an award show yet. My favorite part of the whole thing (and the piece I keep rewinding) is when he does the 'Remember The Time' breakdown. Hot to death. And the end was incredibly touching. I kinda figured out 3 seconds after that the media was gonna run with the whole real or fake card just to start somethin. But the genuine public that watched with an open mind clearly saw that the boy left his heart and soul on that stage. It's almost hilarious how some are searching for an excuse to knock it. But I know they're not really knockin the singing and dancing, it's just a continual bashing of him and it's real tired to me. Anyone with their head screwed on correctly knows what he did was wrong, it was dead wrong. But after 4 million public apologies and being punished for his actions through the justice system I don't understand what else people want from him. To roll over and die? I'll never defend the crime but the difference in outcry amongst one celebrity vs. another was always the shit that pissed me off. It's when you can have a person that admitted the wrong they committed yet paid a heavier price than another that never even confessed and owned up to their fault. It's when you could have repeated offenders like Charlie Sheen, and Tommy Lee who's allowed to kick his 4 month pregnant-wife in the stomach, Eminem, James Brown...it's when Aunt Jemima a.k.a Oprah can invite her good friend BeBe Winans on her program after his domestic violence case yet drags Chris Brown at the same exact same time. The double standards that exist are just unbelievable. He was made an example. It's just as simple as that.

Yep, lol. I threw my hands in the air, and my family and I were clapping and talking about it, and not even focused on the show anymore until El showed up. The power/electricity could have went out right after Chris, and I would have been like "Oh well, the show was over anyway. DONE! Sorry Prince." lol And as it stands, aside from Esperanza, Prince's tribute was so ridiculously underwhelming, our feelings were right. The show could have ended when Chris walked off stage, and many people wouldn't have thought about anything else planned afterward. The performance was just that good.

And to be honest, I didn't even think about the domestic case when Chris started. I was just rolling my eyes with my former predispostion towards his impersonations, thinking, "aww man, he's about to mess up MJ's moves again," lol. BOY, was I wrong about that this time. Like you said, that Remember The Time part was darn-near perfection. nod I was sitting there frozen in amazement until it ended. Even IF he had self-serving intentions, Chris was somewhere PRACTICING for that tribute. lol And this is coming from someone who has never praised him before, lol.

Highlights of the show for me: The Prince Tribute, The MJ Tribute and El Debarge.

I wasn't impressed with anything else.

I thought the tribute to Prince could have been a bit better. I didn't think any of the performers aside from Esperanza Spalding were all that great. Janelle Monae I thought would have been better. I enjoyed her dancing and energy, but her voice was kinda off. Patti was herself as always. I thought her rendition of "Purple Rain" was pretty good but it didn't really move me all that much to be honest. Alicia was good, but nothing to write home about. Trey Songz was a mess.

I enjoyed Prince's speech though. I liked what he had to say. He spoke very well. I only wish he had performed.

She really screamed her way through the performance...

  • I totally agree about women singing "If I Was Your Girlfriend". nod
  • Patti annoys me- I've never liked that screaming. Someone asked me what song she did, and honestly, I didn't remember. I remember the shoe, and a lot of yelling... confuse
  • Trey Songz... disbelief
  • Fergie- did she make that dress in HomeEc? She wears beautiful gowns to the Grammys. I guess this wasn't important.
  • I thought it was interesting (and mentioned it a few pages back) that Jada had her hair braided to go to this awards show. Where are they when she's hangin' with the Cruises and Beckhams? confused
  • Nicki Minaj- no words. lol

At least the actual show was better than that god awful red carpet pre-show which was just plain terrible all around. As for the show:

Kanye was there and for the first time I actually didn't really understand a word the dude was saying...sound problems maybe shrug . What was he supposed to be? Moses on the mountain or something because I damn sure didn't get the choice of scenery.

Queen Latifah was....amusing...yeah, that should do it. nod

I don't get why the hell Nicki Minaj had that fugly as dress on with that loud ass orange wig. You know that shit was a wig because her hair changed colors 3 times since she performed on damn near everybody else's songs. Which btw....Worst.Lipsyncing.Ever.!!!! She needs to take her crazy eyes and take a seat because that shit was ri-donk-u-lous.

Usher...I'm just happy that dude didn't do that fuckin' 'OMG' song because that shit makes me want to hit people. RAGE!!! mad

Diddy...WTF?!?! Diddy Dirty Money...really, dude, really? rolleyes When is his punk ass going to actually invest in some real dance lessons and why must there be every-damn-body on his track...oh yeah, because Diddy has to be able to blame someone else for the wackness that ensues.

What the fuck is up with this Drake mofo and why does he look slow? I'm amazed he can make proper sentences. Plue, he seems a little too in love with Lil Wayne...creepy dude, just creepy. I don't care what dude does because I'll never forget that bullshit performance on last year's BET awards where his ass sat in a chair the whole time and they had 13 year old girls dressed in hootchie gear booty poppin' to Lil Wayne's bleeped out lyrics. Uh, gross.

I heart Travis Barker! mushy

Jada, oh Jada what happened to your pants? This isn't the beach, baby girl. She put her hood hair on. Will didn't even want to go to this fuckery so Jada brought her poor child to the festivities and put a matching hood do on her. Family time, yay! It's okay, though because I still love Jada.

Nia Long and Larenz Tate get two thumbs up thumbs up! thumbs up! They should have made out and why the hell do they both look younger than the 20-somethings in the crowd?

TI...I actually like his voice for some reason but he has Alicia Silverstone syndrome like a muthafucka. His lips don't know which way to go. Why does Tiny always look soo busted? Did she fall down a flight of stairs and land on her face? She really did not look this jacked up during the Xscape days. WTF happened there?

Music matters ya'll, but the commercials matter more...CHA-CHING!!

No Mike Epps did not rock some Karl Kani and a beeper... falloff All those clothes he was wearing was making me feel itchy and sweaty...ewww.

Why does Eminem still look like he's an addict? Someone needs to give dude a sandwich and a Snickers bar with the quickness.

MC Lyte has one of the best announcer voices I've ever heard.

Why the hell is Alicia Keys getting a spontaneous tribute? Shit all that moving she was doing was making me so damn uncomfortable. When is she having that baby...tomorrow? Damn, she's large.

Jermaine Jackson is one shiny ass man. I wonder who drew his hair on for him because that shit looks extra Sharpie-chic this evening. How the fuck he gonna misquote Janet? She didn't say no shit like that, Jermaine damn clean gel out yo ears brotha. hmph!

Oh, shit! Chris Beat 'Em Down Brown. I'm gonna call it as I see it and say dude did the damn thang. He danced his ass off and even though he's copied MJ's moves a million times already, he seems to have put a little extra love into this tribute. The Smooth Criminal glow suit routine was hot except they didn't do the lean forward move which kinda pissed me off a bit because HELLO that's the best move in that whole dance routine. Just when I was really getting into the performance 'IT' happened. Chris Brown cried like a 3 year old girl who had just lost her puppy, skinned her knee, and dropped her lollipop all at the same time. Dude, Man in the Mirror is a tear jerker, but seriously, hold it together. That's why he'll never be the next MJ. MJ got emotional on songs to but he didn't cry like a girl. Let a tear drop, sing the song, and cry backstage like a true professional. I'm hoping the tears were a result of more than just sadness from MJ's passing because I saw slobber at one point so I know that he was having a damn good cry. Good job until that last part though, but a standing ovation was pushing it.

El Debarge was fiyah and fine. Someone had to come out and educate the youngsters on how it's really done. Best performance of the night.

Tyrese did Teddy justice but what was up with all those funky panties being waved in the air? Ewww really rolleyes

Why no tribute to Lena Horne? I guess the talent wasn't there to cover such an icon that night..sad really.

Did Kirk Franklin actually sing?!?! eek Why is it that gospel singers seem to sing better than R&B and pop singers yet don't get praised as highly?

John Legend is soo cute. He looks like he's 15 and he gave such a nice and humble speech.

Fucka you Trey Songz!!!! mad How dare you butcher PR in front of it's maker. Your baby will come out with six toes, four fingers, and be tone deaf for that shit. Prince looked like he wanted to slap Trey like he slapped Apollonia in Purple Rain. Prince may not verbally say anything negative about Trey Songz because Jehovah rules his world now, but his eyes said, "Nucca, meet me in the parking lot after the show so I can really show you some purple rain with my 3inch heel in yo ass."

Oh, Stevie is the man. Loved his introduction to the Prince tribute. He showed his eyes. Janelle Monae...well the song was defintely appropriate for that performance. I think Prince was confused and amused all at the same time. I loved Esperanza Spalding's performance. Fantastic! Girl can sang for sho. Oh, Alicia, why the hell did you have to pick 'Adore'? Why did you have to go and viciously slaughter my favorite Prince song you husband stealing, homewrecking heffa. Didn't she cover "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore" back on her debut album? I hate that song. I've hated that song from the first time I heard Prince sing it so she could have butchered the hell out of it and I wouldn't have cared one bit....but to hurt 'Adore' the way she did? disbelief And no she did not crawl on top of the piano ala a Mayte moment all preggers and barefoot with swollen ankles? A part of me wanted her to fall but then I totally considered the damage it could do to her unborn child and traded that evil thought to one of concern and panic..I think Prince was feelng the same way too. Patti oh Patti. I love me some Patti, but she was screaming at points just a tad too much. Loved when she kicked off the shoes though; that's a Patti signaure move right there. Why is it that nobody can pull off a good rendition of PR? I guess that's why it will always be Prince's signature song. His acceptance speech was soo nice and humble and I love that he wasn't wearing shades this time around...nice very nice.

Yay for Ludacris! Love that man. Tommy Lee? Really? I guess.

Why the fuck did 'Telephone' win an award? Did they not watch that shitty ass video and listen to that seriously fuck-tarded song? Guess not.

This show was much better than last years, but that's really not saying much. Now, on to the VMAs. popcorn

lol It does look like shoe polish and his brothers let him walk out the house because everybody likes a good laugh. He really misquoted Janet. She said: "To you Michael was an icon (legend); but to us, he was family." Jermaine's greasy ass had to go and say: "To you Michael was an icon (legend); but to me, he was my brother." Jermaine, Jermaine what would we do without you and the shine.

eek Is that fixable issue because dude really does look like he rode in on the short bus. He's soo hot right now and I'm really trying to figure out why. He's not awful, but he's not amazing either. I'm loving BoB waay more than Drake which btw his performance was good even though we all know that Keyshia Cole isn't on the real version of 'Airplanes'. She was singing the hell out of that hook though, but I still love Hayley more.

Now, on to the VMAs. popcorn

The panties and bra thing is what they used to do at Teddy concerts back in the day. I remember, I saw him when I was like 16 and some "ladies" in the front row took off some clothes I was like eek lol

That dude's expression behind Prince makes this gif even funnier, LOL.

He was checking for the baby daddy, Swizz Beats reaction. I've gotta watch that clip again because he didn't look shocked like everyone else. I love A-Keys and although she shoulda stayed in her vocal lane to do the song, she said ADORE was her favorite Prince song since she debuted so it was cool that she got to do it for him.
