Okay so since the org blew the fuck up after Janelle's performance rolleyes I have to say that Janelle really impressed me.

The other chick, I can't remember her name, was okay, though she was way better than Trey Songz wack ass.

Alicia was off as usual...but why her big ass decide to get up on that piano to slither all across it like she was Vanity was beyond me. I found myself getting nervous that she would fall off the shit and hurt the baby. confused

Now you know Patti, Patti did the damn thing. Her kicking her shoes off was classic and then for P to catch one of them and then hold up to the crowd was hilarious!!!! clapping

Just wish he would have performed though and showed them how it's done pout All the other honorees in the past have performed a number or two after their achievement.

1) I started a thread: lol

Can't believe all these Prince fans would blow up the server like that. prince crash Was everyone trying to acces the site via iPad, wifi, mobile, etc. when the Prince tribute started? At any rate, I thought Janelle Monae was going to go nuts during her tribute. nuts And I liked Alicia Keys' tribute, but when she rolled up on top of the piano, didn't she remember that she's five months pregnant?

Best parts of the show:

1) Chris Brown - SHOCKINGLY. omg

2) El DeBarge - My goodness... love

3) Eminem headbang

4) Esperanza Spalding - She owned that Prince tribute.

Until El's performance surprised everyone, I didn't think anything else could compete with the MJ tribute. That was the high point of the program, and I have never been a fan of Chris Brown. EVER. But I was actually speechless. Impersonation or not, I was impressed, for the very first time, 'cause that was the BEST MJ-dancing Chris has ever done. His tributes in the years past were all horrible since he could never get any of Michael's moves right. But last night, Chris was almost totally accurate, unlike Usher, Timberlake, Omarion, Ne-Yo, all of those other dudes when they've attempted Michael's choreography. It's just too bad he couldn't get through Man In The Mirror. That could have been the segment where Chris just performed as himself. However, I understood those tears....The only bad part is, while he most likely was crying about Michael, the way he was tearing up so intensely made it kinda seem like he was thinking more about his own problems and finally being on stage moreso than MJ's tragedy. Who knows. Nonetheless, Chris stole the show. I was surprised Prince showed up after that. lol

I didn't really like the tribute. the girl with the afro (can't remember her name) was the best I thought. When Alicia Keys got on that piano I saw Prince's face lookin like wtf? lol I could tell he was trying to not show what he was really thinking lol and yes Janelle was wack too. She was trying too hard.

Highlights of the show for me: The Prince Tribute, The MJ Tribute and El Debarge.

I wasn't impressed with anything else.

I thought the tribute to Prince could have been a bit better. I didn't think any of the performers aside from Esperanza Spalding were all that great. Janelle Monae I thought would have been better. I enjoyed her dancing and energy, but her voice was kinda off. Patti was herself as always. I thought her rendition of "Purple Rain" was pretty good but it didn't really move me all that much to be honest. Alicia was good, but nothing to write home about. Trey Songz was a mess.

I enjoyed Prince's speech though. I liked what he had to say. He spoke very well. I only wish he had performed.

"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always heart

My twocents about last night:

I love Kanye but the performance was bored

Chris' tribute was really touching. The best part was the glow in the dark smooth criminal. I still think that his dancing his a bit overrated, but I thought he did a really good job. I know that it's impossible to know what was going through his head when he broke down. But I'd bet money that it was more about being given the chance to perform on a large stage again and his troubles than it was about MJ.

Nicki Minaj? Lipsyncing 3 songs? Really? C'mon, bitch.

Is it just me or does Jada Smith always look extra greasy? She's beautiful but she always looks like someone should throw her ass in a skillet.

IMO, Alicia Keys actually sounded decent. eek

I see Rick Ross is going by a different name now. giggle

I enjoyed the P tribute. And Patti? worship When she kicked off her shoes I was like...

Loved Prince's speech, the fact that he was genuinely moved by his tribute and I appreciate that he respected his own tribute enough not to wear sunglasses.

Janelle's performance was ok to me, but that had to do more with her song choice. I think she would have done better with "Baby I'm A Star".

Alicia, forced as usual which I always find annoying. She look like she was kicking water on the side of a pool.

I never thought about Chris Brown one way or another, IMO all he's done (even when Michael was alive) was do Michael Jackson impersonations, but I did like the glow in the dark Smooth Crimminal segment of his performance, that was pretty dope. And I do believe his tears were genuine.

I loved El DeBarge performance, up until Rhythm Of The Night, ok I always hated that freaking song. He should have done "Stay with Me", "You Wear It Well" or one of The "Switch" tunes for that, overall it was beautiful to see him looking great and sounding excellent.

I was in & out on most of the show, I loathe the BET AWARDS, embarrassing negroidian coonery to the max..someone to take Stephen Hill out back & beat him senseless.

I thought about "Stay With Me". What would have been cool is if he has performed "Stay With Me" and Ashanti did "Foolish" and some other rapper did Biggie's version with Faith Evans singing. Would have made the moment even more special.

lowkey

that janelle monet girl looked more like a comedy spoof, who da hell was the chick with the fro , patti was patti. prince is such a lil snob he didnt seem like he was interested until his girl patti came out,i liked his speech though. i think chris brown did a great job and i felt his emotions when he broke down, all the mj fans who got they panties in a bunch over the tribute need to calm down. if there were no mj tributes yall would have something to say, when there is a tribute yall got something to say.i liked monica and niecy, loved el and tyrese, dont get the hype over this drake dude he seems like a dork trying to be down, eminim please go back where you been for the last few years, bet treats this dude like he's run dmc or some shit.alicia keys was boring as usual, diddy was annoying as usual,i dont know what kanye was doing,i need a translater to understand what this nicki minaj chick is saying,it was nice to see queen latifah come out the closet, jermaine jackson jacked janet's speech from last year and made it about himself...janet said to US michael is family, jermaine said he was MY BROTHER.overall it was better then the last few years, i think part of the reason is because beyonce and jayz were not there.

nod Me too, he was clearly emotionally distraught. Now the REASON is up for debate, but he was clearly crying out of control. I really felt for him, and that surpised me. Because the day before he could have fallen off the face of the earth and I would not have cared.

And I think Alicia did a good job with "Adore". She mangled one note, but it happens sometimes when you're ACTUALLY singing, and not lip-syncing.

nod He made me a little sad when he spoke about being "wild" back in the day, and how he had confidence that the future of music was in good hands. But I guess when you're being given a "Lifetime Achievement" award, you're supposed to speak in terms of being near the end of your career. But that part seemed more to me like he was speaking in terms of the end of his life. neutral
