Yeah I agree man The-Dream has finally put out in my opinion his best song so far..other than the songs he wrote for Electrik Red "Friend Lover" "So Good"/
Now if I heard some stuff like Lavaux, Sticky Like Glue, Dance 4 Me, Get On The Boat and Future Baby Mama on his album then I may have consodered his album being "better than 20Ten" but it's not. i cant compare one song to a whole album...that rediculous It is the same tired stuff he been doing for the last 4 years on his albums. One copy cat Prince song; followed by his same formula.
Like we all agreed it's a nice Ready For The World jam of 2010 and let that be that...there is no other song on his album that sounds like this..get your heads out the gutter. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

This is what I've been trying to say...I like some of the production on "Yamaha"....But this is ridiculous...I've always liked The Dream's songwriting when it came to other artists...But when it comes to his own songs they are ALL hooks and NO substance...
Anyone saying that dude is doing Prince better than Prince is just talking shit...This pretty much underlines the Org's puzzling mindstate nowadays...

Exactly...anyone that has a linn drum on one song is doing better than Prince according to the org. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I'm not "talking shit" for shit's sake.
I just like the song better than anything Prince has put out in the last few years.
I can see the "all hooks, no substance" complaint. But I'd rather have one than none.

Its just plain madness to say this is more sophisticated and enjoyable than Black Sweat, Get On The Boat, Dance 4 Me or Lavaux...just ludacrise.
I love the song; but I know where it stands.. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I never said that 'Yamaha' or anything on Love King is more "sophisticated and enjoyable" than Black Sweat, GOTB or Dance 4 Me. I said that 'Yamaha' is better than 20ten as a whole. That includes 'Lavaux'.

Hi ppl, it's been a loong time since I posted. Have been reading the org posts though. Shonenjoe, Yes!!!
Took the words outta my mouth. Who, upon hearing this song, did not go "aaah, yes" in recognition? Who did not say 2 themselves "aah, yes, Controversy/ 1999 days, so cool", as I did? "Do U Lie"? U R telling a little white lie 2 urself if U say this does not have the Prince/ classic Minneapolis Sound stamped all over it. Doubters: don't doubt. Prince music snobs: chill. I didn't hear about the comparison be4 hearing the song and the 1st time I heard "Yamaha" I immediately said "Prince" out loud.
The song to me is a loving tribute to Prince especially from the aforementioned record release periods.
I hear Little Red Corvette vehicle/ woman analogy mixed with Private Joy. It's v. like PJ, but it's its own song as well. It's exciting like Private Joy was when I 1st heard it. It worked its magic on me @ the time...I wanted to be his...well, u know, girlfriend or "joy" when I heard it back then
We R enjoying it because as Joe says we R not hearing a lot of the Minneapolis Sound lately and R grateful when we do. (So b careful not to overpraise imitations)
"All hooks, no substance". Tell me, is Private Joy the most musically innovative, intellectual song? No! We love it because of the charm! It's Fun! It's exuberant, enthusiastic. It's a more youthful representation of Prince's music. There is an honesty about it like this new one. That's why we like it, just like a lot of us seem to be liking one of its "relatives", "Yamaha". A testament to Prince's influence. The good news is that it will intro new ppl to the Minneapolis Sound and Prince. Good job "Dream" team.
Do U think it sounds like Private Joy more than anything else? What do U think?
Cheers! [Edited 7/26/10 23:23pm] [Edited 7/26/10 23:23pm]
