Dream's doing Prince better than Prince himself. Stupid, huge, shiny, gorgeous. Love this shit.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

hmmm I'm surprised so many people don't think it sounds like a Prince track. The song sounds to me like pure prince (1999-purple rain era)...

even the vocal harmonies remind me of Prince.

that dreamy production texture you mentioned... I get that same feeling from Little Red Corvette and a lot of tracks off purple rain (beautiful ones)... I think it's that Oberheim synth with certain dreamy chords combined with linn drum...

I think Prince pretty much dropped that sound after purple rain...

Iam not technical in the slightest, but its a shame if your right about Prince dropping the Oberheim synth after "Purple Rain". Yes it does remind me of the synths on "Little red corvette". Maybe if he goes back to that type of Oberheim one day, then maybe a track similar to "Yamaha" could be released. Did Prince actually use old analogue synths on "20 ten", because it sure doesn't sound like he did?

I can definately hear Prince influences in the track, and the linn drum sounds exactly like a Prince riff, but I think the track stands on its own aswell.

There's a song he did for a group called Electrik Red that's obviously Vanity 6 inspired. It's called Friend Lover. It kinda has the Nasty Girl vibe

If anything it sounds like a “ready for the world” track. They themselves came off as cheap imitators of a specific prince sound. It lacks the wit, intelligence, and musical chops you find in actual prince material. Anyone suggesting that this is better than anything on 20Ten is operating musically on a very superficial level. It is juvenile in it overall presence.

I can see Prince's production side however the lyrics and the way he is singing I would not want Prince to be singing stuff like this @ 52....

And last but not least, he sounds alot like Melvin Riley Jr. more than anything..this song could have came on right after "Human Toy". But I could not hear this being on any Prince album back then. Its his lyrics that make it The-Dreams own...but the keys and vocally are all Melvin..

My only complaints for "Yamaha" are that it could lose a minute and the-Dream is somewhat of a vacuous personality.

Other than that, I think the song is awesome. It is decidedly retro, yes. But the performance, hooks and attention to detail give it more value than a mere retread.

This song has a lift that few of Prince's songs since before the millenium have ever evoked. From the very beginning, this song just owns it.

I am a younger Prince fan, so this song may be a bit more palatable to me... That may be a factor for a lot of the-Dream's songs. His lyrics and "themes" (although that might be giving him too much credit) are pretty base. But production and song-wise? I think he's really talented.

"Make Up Bag" and "Turnt Out" are my other favorites from the album. It sounds incredible on a good stereo.

Ahhh...Yamaha flows into Nikki Pt. 2 on the album. Clever production. nod

Gotta admit: The more I listen to Yamaha, the more I like it. Nikki Pt. 2 is hot too.

Breaking News: Prince declares the internet is dead

In other news, The-Dream has released the best Prince album in 20 years

WHAT?! falloff Other than the 2 Prince or Ready For The World inspired tracks, it's basically the same shit you hear everywhere these days lol

I saw that, thought, cool, need to check that out...

It's a damn good thing the internet provides the opportunity to listen for free before buying. EVERY song is crap. NOTHING on the album is even as good as Ready For The World, much less Prince. It's shit. Couldn't finish a single song.... SKIP!

I didn't pay to hear it and I still feel ripped off.

I downloaded most of it and found like 2 or 3 other songs I like, but NONE of them caputre any more minneapolis sound..so it more so seems like just a copy cat one off track from another artist. If you are going to DO a Prince sounding track ..do the whole album LIKE that.

The nerve to say one song is complimentary to The-Dreams whole album compared to 20Ten is baffling.

How do you feel about 20ten?

I think it's pretty good. While, to me, there are no classic songs on the album, there is only 1 skip track (Everybody Loves Me), I like the rest. I'd rank it squarely in the middle of his last 5 or 6 studio LP's.

That said, 20Ten is WAY better than anything on The-Dream's CD. Even Everybody Loves Me is better than this shit!

In my not-so-humble opinion, Blacks Sweat is "classic", as is 3121 (the song), Colonized Mind, Feel Better, Feel Good, Feel Wonderful, Dance 4 Me, maybe even a few other recent tracks.

paisleypark4 asked what I thought of 20Ten, presumably to compare to my opinion of The-Dream's CD (since that IS the topic), I answered. So relax, I'm not attacking 20Ten...

3121 was one of Prince's funkiest jams in a long time. Black Sweat was tight too

although very computerized. I dug the whole 3121 album. His last great album imo.
