My ipod shuffle played the two songs back to back and I thought it would be a fun contest. I'm not even sure I could vote for one over the other so I vote: TIE Space for sale...

MJ.
No comparison. It's like comparing "Computer Blue" to "Tick Tick Bang". Pffft. ^ [Edited 5/18/10 10:07am]

oh man, I can't choose one but I used to say they sound so alike and say she copied him though now I think 'funny' stands on it's own too as a classic.
I guess I'll go with Lady in My Life, but I would tie them if I can.

I would compare Lady In My Life to a Janet song like Again....but Michael ballads just shit on Janet ballads....but Janet dance songs shit on Michael dance songs.
Jermaine would actually give Michael better ballad competition....

Jermaine would actually give Michael better ballad competition.... But style-wise, these two songs are very similiar, don't you think? Hearing one after the other, it hit me how close in tone and vocal execution they are. Space for sale...

Is this serious? I like 'Time' but it's not even close. 'Lady' hands down.

lady in my life Yeah it's like "oh you mocked me for liking him but now he's dead it's cool to play him again?" And then they look at you funny when you don't play him. -Timmy on after 6-25 fans

I always thought the songs sounded similar, but MJ's came out first. Anyway, I love both songs but "Lady In My Life" is beautiful and MJ's voice is amazing in it.
I vote for "Lady In My Life". "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ
"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always

For me it's 'Funny how time flies'(probably in my top 10 Janet tracks of all time) - i hardly ever listen to 'lady in my life' (although i like it too)

Lady In My Life. No question. I've always pictured Michael rolling his eyes and laughing when he first heard "Funny How Time Flies." "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

Lady in My Life...
The change of tempo in the song when he goes "Lay back in my tenderness...." NEVER fails to make me feel giddy... like a lovesick fool..... Then the killer ad libs in the song later on..... *melts into a puddle of goo* LMAO!!!!! ~Time Spent Learning is a Time Never Wasted~

Not really a tempo change, so much as it becomes more rhythmic. It is a grand part of the song though. Janet's song is good, but it's just a pop song, and a filler track. "the Lady In My Life" could have been a single, and should have been one.
