This was when I stopped listening to the. Why, cause to me, they sounded like everything that was on the radio at the time. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

I love the 12" version of this song! They added some extra percussion or something, making it much better than the regular (album) version. One of my Top 5 favorite Gap Band songs.

I think "Party Train" is when they started to lose something.Don't get me wrong,it's a good song but it's sorta formulaic.Previous singles like "Burn Rubber" and "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" were edgy and funky, boasting their signature sound. After 1984 or so,they lost the spark.

That's why you stopped listening to the Gap Band? Yeah, cause up til that point, their slow jams were unique sounding. There was something about the lyrics to "Yearning for your love" and the sentiment behind it that was unique and from the heart. "Outstanding", sounded like it was coming from an brotha who was trying to get some ass, by buttering up his lady, with compliments. I first heard the rumor from a friend that used to set up the stage at the coliseum in my area back then and i wouldn't believe it. It wasn't to the early nineties when i saw the Gap Band in concert that i knew something was up with Charlie by the way he was tentatively walking across the stage as though he was about to pass out and he was sweating profusely. Come to find out he had just come out of rehab and they had just released their Live and Well album. He still sounded great vocally. Don't laugh at my funk

It's OK but it's one of their blander songs of the early 1980s. The 12 Inch is much better than the album version though. The "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" 12 Inch is their alltime best. Andy is a four letter word.

I love the song "Party Train" but there are a lot of bland songs on their "V" album, unlike the "III" and "IV" albums where either every single track was good or almost every track was good. I thought Gap Band V-Jammin was their last classic album. It's enough funk on that album to last for days. Shake A Leg,Jammin in America,Jam to the Motha(one of their best), I Expect More. I even dig mid tempos like I'm Ready which was a great cut that shoulda been a single and Someday and the ballads My Everything and Something Special. Don't laugh at my funk

That album was really good and had some really good songs on it. Not to mention, they got a number one song from that album. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Probably mine too. I like "Burn Rubber On Me", but I hate the intro with the tires spinning out. And I like "You Dropped A Bomb On Me", but I hate that whistling sound of the bomb dropping every measure. "Outstanding" was the one hit of theirs that I didn't have any issues with. Smooth & Groovy.

I've got the 12 Inch version of it which is better than the album version. It's the B Side of a "Party Train" 12 Inch I have. It looks like an import though because of the thin cover. I have another 12 Inch of "Party Train" that came out before the album did. That version of "Party Train" is a longer version of the 45. . . . [Edited 5/13/10 16:00pm] Andy is a four letter word.

Isn't that around the same time drugs over took Charlie? I agree about "Party Train". Charlie was on heavy drugs .I use to see him on the streets here in LA broke & cracked out. But he got himself back together now and his voice is better than ever. I wish i can say that about Whitney. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

BONUS QUESTION: How many artists sampled Outstanding?
Ice Cube -- True 2 Da Game Soul 4 Real -- Every Little Thing I Do (You Blow My Mind) Shaq -- I'm Outstanding I like how Soul 4 Real used that sample. Good thing Heavy D was involve because Sean Combs by himself would've screwed it up by making the track slower.
