New Album From Gorillaz: 'Plastic Beach' January 20, 2010 Gorillaz will release their third album, 'Plastic Beach' on March 8 (UK) and March 9 (USA), the cartoon creations of Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett have told NME.COM. Confirming the record's full tracklisting, the band also announced that the likes of Lou Reed, Mos Def, Mark E Smith, Snoop Dogg, Bobby Womack, De La Soul and Super Furry Animals' Gruff Rhys, while The Clash duo Mick Jones and Paul Simonon reunite on the title track. "Leeching is the wrong word now isn't it?" the band's 'frontman Murdoc Niccals told NME.COM of the guest stars. "It's not like I've drawn blood or anything. No, I think the word 'coerced' sings the deal a little better. Although, yes, the coercion did come via chloroform and rohypnol." As with the band's previous releases, the album boasts a back story, which this time sees "the band have taken up residence, recording on a secret floating island deep in the South Pacific, a Plastic Beach HQ, made up of the detritus, debris and washed up remnants of humanity. This Plastic Beach is the furthest point from any landmass on Earth; the most deserted spot on the planet". 'Plastic Beach' has the following track listing: 'Orchestral Intro' 'Welcome To The World Of The Plastic Beach' (feat. Snoop Dogg) 'White Flag (feat. Kano & Bashy) 'Rhinestone Eyes' 'Stylo' (feat. Bobby Womack and Mos Def) 'Superfast Jellyfish' (feat. Gruff Rhys and De La Soul) 'Empire Ants' (feat. Little Dragon) 'Glitter Freeze' (feat. Mark E Smith) 'Some Kind Of Nature' (feat. Lou Reed) 'On Melancholy Hill' 'Broken' 'Sweepstakes' (feat. Mos Def & Hypnotic Brass Ensemble) 'Plastic Beach' (feat. Mick Jones & Paul Simonon) 'To Binge' (feat. Little Dragon) 'Cloud Of Unknowing' (feat. Bobby Womack) 'Pirate Jet' The album will be preceded by the single 'Stylo'. http://www.nme.com/news/gorillaz/49341 [Edited 3/15/10 10:57am]

I'm hoping for something a little different.
Although I enjoyed some moments from the last album, it showed little growth from the first.

Although I enjoyed some moments from the last album, it showed little growth from the first. I completely disagree. Gorillaz was a kind of cool venture through gloomstown, but Demon Days captured the latent fear in the air that characterized the 00s better than any other album, in my opinion. The entire thing plays like a classic horror movie, in which we care about the characters and the buildup is palpable. The climax of "Don't Get Lost in Heaven" and the epilogue "Demon Days" make the album come full circle in a truly beautiful, artistic way. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Gorillaz Plastic Beach Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know Here's a little of what you can expect from the latest offering from Damon Albarn and crew. By James Montgomery Much like Lazarus, Superman and, uh, Sayid from "Lost," Gorillaz are back from the dead with their first new album in nearly five years, a post-apocalyptic parable called Plastic Beach. Of course, not everyone in the band bit the bullet at the end of the promotional cycle for their last album, 2005's massive Demon Days — just guitarist Noodle, who perished at the conclusion of the band's "El Mañana" video (she's since returned in cyborg form), but there was a definite sense that things were winding down in 'Rillaz land, with co-creators Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett even telling MTV News that the group was "retiring ... we're going to do it hip-hop style, like Jay-Z." But, much like Jigga, that retirement didn't stick, and the proof is Beach which hits stores on Tuesday (March 9). Much like everything the Gorillaz do, it's a sprawling, kitchen-sink affair, with an orchestra's worth of musicians and an army of guest vocalists taking part in things. There's a whole lot to keep track of, which is why we've prepared this cheat sheet — a list of the who's, what's and where's that make the album tick. Humble Beginnings After spending much of 2007 working on Monkey: Journey to the West, a Chinese-style opera that premiered at the Manchester International Festival, Albarn and Hewlett announced plans for a new Gorillaz album, tentatively called Carousel. That eventually morphed into Plastic Beach (Albarn reportedly got the inspiration for the album while sitting on the beach, noticing all the trash in the sand) and recording began in June 2008. In September of last year, Albarn premiered three brand-new tracks — "Electric Shock," "Broken" and "Stylo" — on BBC Radio 1. In December, Gorillaz appeared on the U.K. cover of Wired magazine and in January their official site underwent a face-lift, making it clear that the Plastic Beach era had begun. A Cast Of Hundreds It wouldn't be a Gorillaz production without more than a few co-stars, and Plastic Beach has 'em by the bucketload. First single "Stylo" features vocals by Mos Def and Bobby Womack (not to mention Bruce Willis in the video), and the album features contributions from Snoop Dogg, Lou Reed, Mick Jones and Paul Simonon from the Clash, the Fall's Mark E. Smith, British rappers Bashy and Kano, De La Soul and Super Furry Animals' Gruff Rhys, to name just a few. There are also musical flourishes provided by Chicago's Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and the Lebanese National Orchestra for Oriental and Arabic Music too. Return To The Road Gorillaz have performed live in the past — including a sold-out run of shows at Harlem's Apollo Theatre and a Grammy duet with Madonna — but longtime plans of a worldwide holographic tour never materialized. But, this time around, things may be different — the band have already been confirmed as headliners at the 2010 Coachella Festival, and if Beach is a success, the lure of the open road may prove too much to resist. http://www.mtv.com/news/a...llaz.jhtml

I picked up the cd yesterday and I am so digging it. I read a review about sounding like a really cool soundtrack for an awsome cartoon. Ya know what the reviewer was right. This will be a continued playback for me. The Bobby Womack pairing works in a odd way. Just Call Me Afrochick

The first album that I've thoroughly enjoyed in 2010. "Empire Ants" is just stunning, and the title track is also brilliant. It gets off to a slow start- I was actually preparing to be disappointed after hearing the first 3 tracks, but it picks up from Track 4 and doesn't let up.
