I understand what you're saying but I disagree.

Janet's main market has always been America. It has NEVER been overseas leave that for her brother, who was the total opposite. The same can be said for Madonna and a few others. Her career hurt gratefully because of the Superbowl. Yes, she's an aging pop star and of course, ageism is a focus in America. But to say the Superbowl hurt her career a little is pure bullshit.

BINGO!!

I always get a cackle when folks say the superbowl didn't hurt Janet's career. Her career suffered big time and so did her image. Most of her "fans" didn't come to her defense and her stupid, wack-job family didn't either. Bitches. neutral

sigh

The superbowl in itself did not ruin her career.

The way the incident was handled and the cnsequent management decisions and music releases did her in.

Ppl can bounce back from ANYTHIN. Ppl just want to jam. At the end of the day, less than 5 ppl actually gave a fuck about the tit poppin out...

I just wished Janet had went overseas to build attention over there. Instead she just languished in America. confused

Besides people overseas just rolled their eyes over the news like "so what?" Even the UK would've helped matters if she had went over there (after 2004 where she did have two UK top 20 hits with "Damita Jo" and that album did go silver there). Instead like I said it seemed like as the Super Bowel incident overshadowed her career, it just got worse and worse. I do think it played a big pivotal role in how her career tanked but I think her decisions afterwards made it impossible to make a comeback. True, she did go #1 with the last album but Def Jam didn't think of promoting it.

They're not going to play a 43 year old, black, female pop star on Clear Channel radio besides those Classic R&B stations (smaller audience) every once in awhile.

Sorry

Harlepolis

I'd say Halle's breakthrough role(performance wise) was Losing Isaiah.

Granted, she's a fine actress but she get to play these boring predictable roles, Jack, I mean disbelief

I'm VERY intrested in her upcoming film where she plays a woman with a personality disorder though.

Not with radio, not now...

But in 2006 with 20 YO, she could have. As I said, her time has passed, and her chances r up. The mistakes have already been made. sad

... she can just keep releasing music and touring regularly for her fans now. Nobody really sells anything these days anyway...

she was "away" for quite awhile getting her shit together, though. long enough for people to forget who she was and what she did before she came back in her late teens.

Todd Bridges' (and Lohan's) problem is they fucked up on the verge of adulthood, so everyone identifies the "adult" them with that stuff.

Went away where? She worked pretty consistently throughout her "struggles." Her and RDJ were given the benefit of the doubt.

aside from a few tv episodes, she barely worked from 87 to 92

If she can't now, how could she in 2006? Lets be reasonable. In 2006, Janet had top-notch promotion from Virgin but not through radio because they know radio wouldn't play her. So they utitlized the media of publication. She was on every magazine cover imaginable. "Call on Me" was a hit on Urban radio and did well. Pop radio isn't accepting so I don't think she can garner that audience again. Janet's time has not passed. She's still doing her thing. Janet obviously doesn't give a fuck about impressing listeners our whatever so shrug

And even in "Isaiah" she was overshadowed by Glenn Close and that boy that played her abandoned child.
