I thought he had what? one good year? damn. His first album sold over 8 million copies worldwide (I own it and like it). Not sure if he ever got endorsements or anything (I went on Wikipedia just to check it out....but I lost interest after reading about the second less successful album).

He had one amazing year in (what was it 1999/2000 or 2001?) Artful Dodger/Born To Do It etc, probably set him up for life. He has had a number of good years financially since then. 3 further albums or so, some successful collaborations on singles with the likes of Kano. He's performed live at all sorts of venues from big arenas at his height, to smaller civic centre type places which still must have been profitable. I've always liked his stuff but I agree nothing as consistently good as Born To Do It. Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

He must have had some great financial guys around him, plus i think he's close to his family so they have kept him grounded so he did not shoot his money on ho's and drugs ....
Which is the fastest way to lose cash .... Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..
James Brown & Michael Jackson RIP, your music still lives with us!

yeah, Born To Do It is my favorite album of his, but I also like Trust Me 16 Top 40 hits in the UK and 4 Top 20 albums over the past 10 years "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I thought he had what? one good year? damn. I just saw an episode of Cribs today at my parent´s house (I don´t have a cable TV) and there were some two guys I´ve never heard about showing off their houses and you´re like..."where did these arrogant losers get all this money?" Well, I find these people embarrassing. I know that they are rich and that they want to buy nice things but sometimes I am watching it thinking that most of the stuff is just to show off - useless. You see their giant kitchens and you´re thinking who ever cooks there? They all have these gyms, pools etc. This guy had a TV and a stereo in his bath . "Can´t you be without a TV even while taking a bath?" I can´t help thinking that they have all this stuff not because they want or need it, but because all the other rich people have so I need to have it, too. Pure showing- off. It´s ridiculous. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Can the Ukers please explain why they hate Craig David so much? I'm American, so I don't know what's going on over there. I've asked this question before, but no one answered it. I don't understand why people talk about his sexuality. George Michael and Elton John get respect, but he doesn't. It seems like people don't like the man because he's a successful black man, which is really sad.
Craig David has money because of touring. I've heard that he also writes/produces some of his songs, so that's how he makes his money. This is how most artists make their money, so what's wrong with that? Please go to therapy so you can get over your racist/prejudice ideas. When Craig David released his album in the USA, he was successful, then he disappeared. I wondered what he was up to, so thanks for the update. [Edited 3/6/10 11:25am]

[Edited 3/6/10 11:25am] I think the main "attack" on Craig David has nothing to do with saying he is gay. People just don't assume their is much substance there (perhaps the second album proved that....the ones I heard were kind of crap, especially the thing with Sting singing background). Wasn't there some famous British thing with a big Craig David head? Found it. http://www.tourdates.co.u...raig-david Craig David might have a point. After looking at this guy's parodies, they all seem to be very focused on black people and the all the faces are very offensive (and the comedy is terrible!).

[Edited 3/6/10 11:25am] I've never understood it either. I don't believe it's because he's black, but he kinda hurt his rep with this second album "Slicker Than Your Average". His third and fourth albums were alot better in terms of quality With the US, when Born To Do It was released, it was popular and then Slicker Than Your Average and Atlantic didn't know how to promote him or the album. It wasn't pop but it wasn't R&B. It was like Born To Do It but a lot more polished and some of the tracks were weaker "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I'm sure not everybody hates him but British R'n'B is/was not thought of as particularly cool within the UK. Craig was definitely influenced by US R'n'b ( I think he has been quoted as saying Usher's My Way album was like his blueprint for what he wanted to do) and I think some people see it as music without much substance and cliche'd (getting girls into your bedroom, showing off your cars and money etc). Having said that some tracks on Born To Do It were so well mixed in with the 2 step-UK Garage sound that was prevalent at that time it did give it a uniqueness that still sounds fresh to me. He was also kind of ridiculed for namechecking himself in the intros/outros some songs "Craig David, check it out." which was kind of part of the R'n'B way too. I guess this led to the Bo Selecta parody. You can't mention his name now without some twat going "Craiiiggg Davvid" in a Northern Accent. I live in Southampton, UK where Craig David comes from and have seen him live locally a couple of times. I think he is supertalented as a vocalist and songwriter within his genre. I've not heard many people with such clear and tuneful vocals (and I've still heard people say it's all technology trickery and he probably cannot reproduce live.). I love his first 2 albums Born To Do It and Slicker Than Your Average (Hidden Agenda of this one is just awesome IMHO). But his next 2 albums were a bit MOR and weaker for me. I guess the bottom line is we do pretty much knock people down in the UK when they become successful. Just somewhere in the middle,

that place is too white and I'm not talking about the photos of bikini clad women.
If he's gay then why does he have a pic of a laid out half naked woman over his bed? Throughout the rest of the house may come off as fashionable but over his bed where he gets busy? Maybe he really is straight. David: 'I'm Not Gay' British R+B star CRAIG DAVID blames his sexual inexperience as a teenager for past reports suggesting he is gay. The WALKING AWAY hitmaker - who has previously dated actress SOFIA VERGARA and models ROXY INGRAM and AIDA YESPICA - insists he shied away from female fans early on because he was intimidated by their age and experience. He says, "Those rumours started back when we were playing RE-REWIND in the clubs. All these women in the audience were interested in me, but I was having none of it. "Why? Well, you know, I was 17, still relatively inexperienced, sexually speaking, and these women were - what 24, 25. They terrified me." http://www.contactmusic.c...16_03_2006 Or maybe he is in denial. CRAIG DAVID is certainly a character. Britain's most successful urban artist has given a tell-all interview with a gay magazine about his sexuality. In case you were wondering, he loves ladies, but admitted he had been to a gay club. He said: "It was a sick night. Some of the guys I was with were a bit weirded out by being chatted up by a guy. "If you're closed-minded, you never know what to do. "My interior decorator is in a gay relationship. He's one of the coolest guys I know. He's got a real air of, 'Trust me, I'll make things happen'." I bet he'd love to make things happen with you, Craig. On a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday... Asked who his celebrity guy crush would be, he said: "It'd have to be BRAD PITT. Or DAVID BECKHAM - they're hot! You can't deny it. Every guy in the world thinks so.
