Top Five 'Blackballed' Celebrities, Minus Chris Brown: VIBE

This is a crazy list..lol....And Chris Brown thinks he has problems...

Top Five 'Blackballed' Celebrities, Minus Chris Brown

Chris Brown recently took to Twitter insisting that radio stations are still snubbing him in the aftermath of his February 2009 “altercation” with ex-girlfriend Rihanna. But the truth is, Mr. Kiss Kiss hasn’t experienced true hate. Here’s a brief list of celebrities who know the true meaning of blackballed.

JANET JACKSON

Good Times: Before her infamous 2004 nipple slip at the Super Bowl XXXVIII, Janet was coming off her fifth multi-platinum album (2001’s All For You) with nearly 100 million records sold. Yeah, Ms. Jackson was nasty (see Janet's Super Bowl gallery), but her cache as a global commercial superstar was still a proven commodity.

Blackballed: Forget the $550,000 handed down to all CBS-owned stations. The fallout from the breast seen around the world was swift and (some say) overkill. Janet’s music was virtually ignored (i.e. banned) by radio stations as sales of her studio efforts since have slipped considerably with Discipline (2008) barely reaching gold. Even her last single “Make Me”, which many critics described as vintage Janet performed poorly. How bad have things gotten for J.J.? She’s reduced to recording songs with Miami rapper Pitbull (“Heartbeat Love”). Thank God for Tyler Perry.

To check out the rest of the list, you know the deal:

But seriously I could agree, you're not really blackballed unless you're in a situation that makes it impossible for you to go back into anyone's good graces.

I thought Wesely Snips burnt bridges when he made those remarks about black women.

But looking at this list reminds me how much of a fuckin' Hypocrite hollywood is. Look at Michael Jackson, here is a man that was accused but never committed any crimes, and look how the many people felt about him. On the other hand, Roman Polansky got away with statutory rape EVEN though he was committed, and not only that but a HEAP of Hollywood's biggest names stood up for him by forming a petition.

Child actor Todd Bridges was on the Today Show couple of days ago, and he basically stated towards the end of the second part of the interview that he blames some of the failure to really restart a major acting career to racism; that despite the fact that he’s been clean and sober and has stayed out of trouble with the law for over 16 years, he’s still labeled as a drug addict and unreliable by the powers-that-be in Hollywood, while other white actors who have had their own share on drug problems, spent time in prison and wild behavior such as Robert Downey Jr and Drew Barrymore have kept working and have now are even bigger stars than they were years ago.

What did Paul Mooney say? "Protection of the complexion for the collection" yeah sounds funny but I bet it hits home.

Todd Bridges was a child star on a semi-crappy sitcom. I don't think racism has anything to do with it. Has there ever been a role out there that was just SCREAMING for Todd Bridges to be cast in it?

I think not.

He was on Wendy Williams yesterday. He discussed his early career (pre-Different Strokes) and how he was on The Waltons, Fish and Roots.

What I don't get is why he didn't try to get some type of education and so something within the business? He seems to be pretty knowledgeable about show business and he should be able to do something other than keep rehashing the past.

Most roles have not been written with any particular actor/actress in mind, hence why auditions exist.

And If we hold the "semi-crappy sitcom" thing against him then NOBODY will find work, white or black, because everybody are guilty of doing questionable performances esp when they first start out in this business.

No, where there's smoke there's fire,,,,,its not an accident that the black actors/actress who find steady work in hollywood are handful. So, I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss the obvious.

exactly. around the same time todd was starring on different strokes, george clooney was on facts of life (even though i confess i watched it as a child), sarah jessica parker was on square pegs, which is considered a cult classic though i only remember it for being cancelled after a season or two, and tom hanks was in bosom buddies, (again, i watched it as a child, but it hasn't aged well). todd had name recognition and experience going for him as well; you would think that would have parlayed into something, regardless of his bumps in the road.

there are few second chances for black actors who screw up. robert downey jr literally woke up in some stranger's home, after having broken in, and crawling into their bed, thinking it was home, or some shit. come on now! the reason downey was able to overcome this is because the powers-that-be were willing to give him another chance.

Mr. Bridges is right, we aren't given the benefit of the doubt but what's new?

Less get real, most child actors don't make the transition to working in the entertainment business as adults. What he's been through along with his costars of "Different Strokes" (drug addiction, runs in with the law, and squander fortunes) has been par for the course for most child actors. Bridges being black made his career even less of possibility after he reached adulthood. Which meant, Bridges was going to have to plot a course, get a plan, and carve out a niche for himself and he didn't. Having substance abuse problems meant he pissed away lot years that he could have been doing what daPrettyman said, 'getting an education or doing something else in the business'.

Keven Hooks (Sounder, The White Shadow) did.

Todd is right.

Shit, explain Drew Barrymore. She WAS a child star too, That lil heffa was drugging and boozing at Studio 54 at 9 and battled addiction for years. But was given chance after chance to annoy the world with her one note acting. She didn't do anything worthwhile IMO until last year's Grey Gardens.

As far as I know, however, Drew is one of the few to become successful after her brush with drug addiction. I don't know about any of the other child stars, black or white, during that era (the 1980s). shrug

she was "away" for quite awhile getting her shit together, though. long enough for people to forget who she was and what she did before she came back in her late teens.

Todd Bridges' (and Lohan's) problem is they fucked up on the verge of adulthood, so everyone identifies the "adult" them with that stuff.

Lindsay ain't have no big acting offer since about 2005 or something like that... she's only gotten headlines for being a bizarre drug addicted hussy hanging out in clubs and shit.

Don't talk shit about my man Robert tho. evillol I like Drew too lol

You know, if Todd buffed up, he might be able to get another job. Remember him on Everybody Hates Chris? He started working pretty regularly when he pumped up a bit.
