I think I'm the only John Legend fan here . Although I admit his albums have been going down hill, first one being the best. Since the first time I heard and saw Used to Love U I've been hooked. First time I saw the video I just jumped up like "this is what I'm talkin about!!". A concert of his I went to was also one of the nicest and most intimate concerts I've been to so I have no reason to complain about him...

dunno if they're overrated or whatever, but here's my take on them:
i liked some of his earlier songs (sexy love especially ), but ne-yo annoys the shit out of me now for whatever reason . john legend used to bore the shit out of me as an artist, but i didn't (and still don't) mind a few of his songs (heaven only knows, ordinary people, green light), but i saw a live performance of him singing to an audience member (i think the song was called slow dance) a while ago and just recently on stephen colbert christmas or some shit and he seems to have a bit of a personality, so i guess he's okay now never really liked fallin' and didn't get everyone's obsession with alicia so early on, but liked some of her other songs and when you don't know my name came out i got it cuz that was (and still is) my shit . i still like her (although not EVERYTHING she puts out, they wore no one the fuck out ) and she's one of the finest motherfuckers alive in my book i liked india arie's first joint, but she got boring hella quick. i haven't liked anything by her since For all time I am with you, you are with me.

ne-yo _ over rated but he is a good performer
john L. - underated because no one knows if he is even alive rite now. Alicia - overated. her music is a bit boring. I do respect her talent. India- very very very very underated

Ne-Yo is so overrated with that squeaky ass voice He really isn't what I consider a R&B singer. I never understood why Ne-Yo and Trey Songz get all dressed up like they about to sing for the gawds.
John Legend is so overrated too. But I can understand his appeal. He makes easy to listen to songs and is a good singer. I never understood the mass appeal for Alicia Keys Her voice irritates the ish out of me and she's boring as hell! but I guess she's liked for the same reason John Legend is. india.arie is very underrated. I love her

Ne-Yo: too much of an MJ clone, plus his music just does nothin' 4 me so (overrated)
John Legend: I could care less but his actual talent doesn't make his stage name justice at all (overrated) Alicia: like some songs but overall her albums are pretty much a bore, she's talented but I think without Clive Davis there wouldn't have been much of a push. (overrated) India: never really got into her much, like some songs so it's indifferent with her. (indifferent)

John Legend...boring as a postage stamp trying to groove, OVERRATED
Alicia Keys...have never understood what the big deal was/is aboout her. she s a stud broad with no tits and an out of proportion ass, and a truly OVERRATE music career, thanks Clive Davis for spinning another one india.arie....interesting and the full verdict is not in - she needs a full throttle album project to seal the deal Ne-Yo...what an over-hyped act...as a writer she is pretty good, but as a singer, mediocre at best, definitely OVERRATED Music Royalty in Motion

KoolEaze said: Whassup with John Legend using the "Legend" stage name when he isnĀ“t really a legend? How vain is that? That guy bores me to no end, he makes the kind of music that German housewives in their mid-40s find sexy. ^ Best explanation of John Legend I've ever read! Ne-Yo is a great songwriter. I'm just not interested in hearing his voice on the songs. Alicia Keys continues to play her warmup chords & folks thinks she's a virtuoso?!?! That's what gets me. I want her to return to her first album when she sang songs on key. Everything after that album is blah. India.Arie is the truth & I'm mad at each & every one of you who don't recognize a modern folk singer in the flesh! Her last album?!?! Great songs. (Pearls "River Rise" The Cure) She just needed to thin it out to 10 songs (take out Chocolate High PUHHLEAZE) and order it correctly. Put all the Love songs together & all the Politics songs together. Ugh. I hate that these artists allow the cd format to mess up song order!

Ne-Yo is a decent songwriter, but I hate his own stuff, I wish he'd just right for others.
John Legend is boring... but quite cute. Alicia Keys has made some great music, but her new CD is dreadful. Who the fuck is India.Aria? 2012: The Queen Returns

Ne-Yawn! John Legend bores me to tears nowadays. A bit too much vanilla for my tastes and a bit over-rated. A bit. Alicia Keys is quite over-rated too. Still, she's pretty. india.arie: To.be honest.I haven't.really followed.her closely. I.don't find.her work.memorable.

If any of them are underrated, it would be India.Arie, She came out to a lot of acclaim, but didn't really hit her stride until her second album. I agree with an earlier statement of her working with the people she used during the Music In High Places video. Her band was really on some good stuff
John Legend hasn't really impressed me, although i really loved his "Again.." record. great material and songs on there. I really don't like his first or recent material too much I cant get into NeYo or Alicia, so I wont comment on them

I guess I'm the only one who thinks India is NOT underrated. She toured with Sade. Her songs are okay but not incredible. I know dark-skinned sistas don't get a fair shake in the entertainment business but she gets no sympathy points from me. She got nominated for grammies. The industry knows who she is. She doesn't have any tracks that make me interested in her, so I can't call her underrated. I personally am not interested in folk music disguised as R&B. She's got to dig a lot deeper if she wants to get her Tracey Chapman on.
John Legend is underrated as a piano player. He's a good vocalist but he bores the hell out of me. Ne-Yo is corny and is responsible for some of the crappiest saccharin songs in the market today. He's a liar lyrically and that in and of itself is a turn off to his work. He's an industry writer, not a genuine artist. He's a skillful lyricist but his lyrics are bullshit. Like Notorious B.I.G., he's very good at saying nothing important. He just writes what people want to hear and is not honest. Everything is "baby I'm sorry for having a penis" and "All women are independent and perfect and men should be thankful to be sharing the planet with them" - he writes for 16 year old girls and women who still have the mentality of a 16 year old girl. I don't like his work at all. Plus, he can't sing worth a sh*t. Alicia Keys. 9 grammies on her first CD. Come on. Seriously? Nuff said. Another overrated industry darling who's looks outweigh everything else about her. Yeah, she can play. Yeah, she sings okay. Nine grammies = a lot of pretty points if you ask me. She has yet to do a record that makes me go "wow" and it doesn't seem that she has it in her to do so. All of the named artists are talented but none are staggeringly good, innovative or IMO, interesting. [Edited 12/31/09 9:17am]

india is the one who IS NOT overrated. Acoustic Soul is CLASSIC and deserves all the awards Alicia Keys got (at least HALF of them). her music will age better IMO.
i've been surprised at the number of songs by Ne-Yo that i actually like. but i can see ppl saying he's overrated. John Legend and Alicia Keys, BOR.ING.

Neither one of those records deserved nine grammies. Acoustic soul? Classic? Nah, I'll pass. Yes i listened to it and I've discussed it here before. Her material was mature for her age but so what? That is not criterion for a Grammy in my opinion. The Grammys are just popularity awards for the industry anyway. They don't hold the weight they used to a long time ago. Now, companies can pretty much buy their artists Grammies.

Ne-Yo: Overrated. He's written a couple songs I can tolerate, but the vast majority is bland tripe. He puts the "rhythmless" and "bullshit" in R&B.
John Legend: I like his voice and enjoy a couple songs from each of his albums, but the rest is filler, IMO. Overrated, I guess. Alicia Keys: She suffers from being over-hyped, and I've been less impressed with each subsequent album, but I'm a fan. India Arie: I feel like I should like her, but I don't. I'm not into the folky, earthy vibe, and her music bores me. The only song I ever really liked by her was "Brown Skin". I heard Shelby J. sing this song on a boot last year, and it blew India's version away. It's the only version I've listened to since.
