But then it was four years until her next CD. I kind of lost interest. She did an Unplugged, and a few guest appearances with Eve and Gwen Stefani. Eh. Good stuff I guess. Then I saw her at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, talking about Prince, with Andre 3000. I thought, "Is this chick high, or just fucking arrogant as all hell?" I voted for the latter. For whatever reason, he laughing to herself, as if she was the only one who saw Prince's greatness, was just...well, comical. It's like "He can make you cry, he make you laugh....." (laughs to herself and thinks "these white MFers don't get it, ya'll don't know) "....he can make you feel like you can fly..."

She has charisma. Ya know, the little something Freddy Mercury possessed? Maybe your not too familiar with that word, but it's in her blood as an entertainer/showman. Deal with it.

You can't deny there's a presence about her. The room was pretty much immersed by her at the Hall of Fame.
& she deffinatly knows the ins and outs of what it takes to make a show flowwww

Deal with what? A lie? Freddy also had a great voice, and was very unique, and defined the Queen sound as much as Brian May's guitar, and the four's harmonies, and songwriting. His charisma didn't equal arrogance, or fakery. Read all the replies in this thread, and you'll see that we all think she's a douchebag.

Charisma and arrogance don't go hand-in-hand. Person after person on this thread has agreed that she's vapid and uninteresting. That's kind of the opposite of having charisma. HYPE.....now there's a better word for her. Some of the replies here have stated she's more of a product of Clive Davis, than some young phenom. Freddy knew how to work a crowd, and put on a show, and had the talent and balls to back it up. Alicia still rides the "look, I'm black, a girl, and I play piano....I'm a GENIUS" approach, even when she's not performing. She's bought into her own hype. Freddy was a gentleman on and off stage. His reputation, and all those that were around him, speak that as truth. I don't hear a lot of people talking about Alicia like that. Except Clive of course.

She didn't just think that shit up either. She was trained to move here, do that, say this, shake her thick tree trunk thighs here, etc. Anyone rehearses for a show or tour, but she's mechanical.

The only presence about her is her eating an apple through a picket fence w/ those choppers.

And the HOF? They were quiet as a courtesy. These are industry people. They know bullshit when they see it.

I never thought of her as being boring, until she performed a medley on The X-Factor a few weeks ago.

It just didn't go anywhere. There was absolutely no grand finale; no money shot; no crescendo... And the medley made every single one of her songs sound like the same bloody long meandering dirge.

heh well I recently saw this live performance of Empire State of Mind Pt II and I havent followed her career at all, just seen her mentioned here and there.. but i dont recall Prince doin anything as good as this the last 10 years.. i really enjoyed it and wish Prince would take a break from preaching at me and giving me his kooky opinions and just make a honest to god good song.

(but i dont recall Prince doin anything as good as this the last 10 years.. )

Whatever your smoking must be good stuff (LOL) because even on P's worst day he is not as corny as Alicia has been recently.

Alicia does seem real fake. I admit I didn't buy into the hype of her in 2001 (I didn't even buy the first album). I heard so many dirge on it ("Girlfriend", "Butterflies", etc.) that it was like "why bother". Not to mention they stole James Brown's "Man's World" riff. I couldn't get into "Fallin'" or "A Woman's Worth" or her version of "How Come U Don't Call". And I admit while I like "Diary", I haven't played it since 2004. My brother burned it for me I think. And then he gave me a burned copy of "As I Am". Hated it. Then I realize I never really liked her to begin with. shrug

Some friends around here were liking that song, and I said, "Yeah, but let me play you the original. Don't think she's making this shit up, or taking some obscure Prince song to cover." They loved Prince's version more, I think.

Wasn't that around the same time that Eve released "Irresistible Chick" ? Lotta Prince shit around that time.

Bilal recorded a KICK ass version of "How Come U Don't Call" at the same time, one of the better Prince covers.

Whats funny to me though, is how Prince gave props to Alicia for singing it but in the same breath adviced Bilal to "leave it alone".

Talk about flip-flopping.

I might be changing my mind on Alicia Keys (I really like "Sleeping With A Broken Heart"...it doesn't put me to sleep like most of her stuff). To be honest, the rant almost sounds crazy than what she said.

Honestly though, it looks like Jennifer is looking past Alicia, not at her. If Alicia is at the 3 o'clock position, Jennifer looks at about 1:30. It's like Alicia looks up thinking Jennifer might be looking toward her, and she wishes to acknowledge her.
