Glad you brought that up. Let's touch on THAT hypocrisy for a moment. Throughout the evening, ABC kept announcing "Coming up, a performance by Adam Lambert that you'll be talking about tomorrow!" or "....that you won't want to miss!" They promoted it like it was going to be eye popping, and saved it as the finale to the show, which just happens to land around 11 p.m. THEN after the performance, ABC won't show it to the west coast as we saw it on the east coast. When you watch the performance, you can see them trying to cut away during certain times (like the oral sex, kissing the keyboard player), yet failed to cut anything out live. The View wasn't allowed to show it today, because it was "inappropriate". Yet they showed Madonna's tongue hockey match with Britney and Christina over and over when that happened. How is not vulgar to see lesbians, but not gay men? It's gender, and sexual discrimination, and damn near homophobic. Parents balked because their kids saw some homos having fun. My question becomes WHY AREN'T YOUR KIDS IN BED AT 11 P.M.????

There's enough homophobia in pop music to keep her plenty busy with comments. Why doesn't she address the pop crowd? Nothing wrong with her giving her opinion but the motivations behind it are transparent. Well, I can only speak for this homo, but I can't stand her. Never could. She's so over hyped, and we're being spoon fed her nonsense by the media (read: Beyonce). I have to take her comments with a squirt of hairspray. She's another artist who says there is homophobia in shit hop. That's not exactly anything groundbreaking on her part. Did it bring attention to it? Eh, perhaps, but I would bet not to a great extent. If she's just saying it to endear her gay fan base to her more, well that's just a bit of contrived bullshit then. Bet she comes out next year and admits she ate pussy in college or something, to appeal to her gay fans even more. Gheezus, just strap one on and fuck 'em all, Ms. Germanotta. Put a pillow up under their ass, they'll like that! "Strap one on..." That was funny. Seriously. We know its bullshit for cool points. Homosexual discrimination, like any other form of discrimination is serious business and should be treated as such. She should have let Torré control the comment like that. She should have just said that discrimination needs to be eradicated. I was with her on trying to keep things positive instead of drawing negative energy, though. I sensed a little ego with her comment about not wanting to say his name and have "everybody hate him" If its Kanye, I think its safe to say he'll survive because he's always saying stupid shit. Nobody would be surprised and I don't think anyone would hate him any more if they don't hate him already.

They might give some serious thought if Jay-Z said something, but not Lady Gaga. I'd humor you're correct here, too. But here's the thing: Just as you pointed out earlier, hip hop's consumer base is not just "headz," it's little suburban kids who listen to EMINEM, Kanye AND Gaga. Her comments may not mean a thing to core listeners, but they very well could mean tons to that crossover crowd, who, though advocates of "real" hip hop try to pretend like they care nothing about, are truly the ones keeping food on their tables and rims on their Maibachs instead of on their really nice Audis. Economics aside, I wish there was more genuine cultural critique of anti-gay sentiment in black diasporan culture. Hip hop is just a spec. And, you're right, Gaga has little pull there. But when the likes of respected cats like Jay-Z aren't taking up the cause -- or when we get the conflicting BS of a Kanye -- what are dudes like me supposed to do, get mad at an outsider who speaks the truth? Lastly, lost in all this is one fact: If homophobic content didn't exist in hip hop, no one could pull that card... even if they now do so unfairly. I mean, no one is disproportionately accusing rappers of promoting, say, Satanic worship or neo-Nazism... because everyone can clearly see hip hop makes no accommodation for that stuff. But none of gays were brave enough to finally speak out about it as well as they would in later years due to issues with Eminem. [Edited 11/23/09 16:04pm]

Well its her opinion on something and everyone can give an opinion on anything they want but its what is relevant and what is not. I mean i can say Ryan Adams is the best artist of the decade and U can say he sucks, but havent heard one album, thats what im talking in terms of relevance. She is entitled to say anything she wants, but theres alot of things that can also be addressed here, like the fact that she uses overt sexual images to sell, i mean what if someone came out and said that tomorrow, i guarantee 90% of this forum would jump on the person saying it. She isnt wrong for her statement its the "brownie points" she is trying to score, as of now she is just viewwed as a nut job, and she is trying to be noticed as someone that has an opinion, which is all fine, but call it what it is. Theres also alot of racism in country music and i dont see that being addressed? The also explotation of women in videos, i mean it would be more relevant if she said women are sexual objects in rap videos, but then she would be putting her foot in her mouth cause she uses sex to sell also. All her comments does is make shit hop seem "cooler" to the tasteless people that listen to it. When a celebrity talks about a genre that is as homophobic as shit hop being homophobic, the assholes think it's funny and it just makes them like it more.
The genre is trash is should be ignored. If it's going to be bashed, bash it in ways that they would find insulting. You're not going to insult them by calling them homophobic because they are proud to be homophobic. They think it's "cool" to be homophobic. Hell, bash if for what it is which is the most talentless genre in music history and for a genre to be so homophobic, the so-called "music" is way duller than gay icons in the past such as Judy Garland. Hell, most of us ditched folks like that when much more lively music came out such as disco just like most white folks ditched stuff like classical music when rock and roll came out. Shit hop has gone backwards into time bringing back nothing but slow to midtempo stuff even duller than before rock and roll changed things. Shit hop is way past "gay", shit hop is at the stereotypical "faggot" status. The type of dorky slow shit the people used to try to accuse us of listening to. It's long past time that we stop crying and begging and hoping that people will "try to understand and accept us". If they're cool with us, fine. If they aren't, fuck 'em. Stop begging for acceptance and start demanding it like the evil bitches that we are. It's time for the weak "sweet" stereotype of us to come to an end. . . .
