The real point that I'm making is that hip-hop has always been homophobic in tradition AND sheer nature. What other genre (besides reggae/dancehall) that ever given men (especially black men) the opportunity to be the men that they want to be at the expense of putting down other men (straight or gay) by questioning their level of manhood?

Most people Take everything Kanye West says with a grain of salt. The core rap audience either considers him gay, eccentric or some form of "out there" he doesn't speak to them. The people who do listen to him aren't homophobic(mostly) so that's basically preaching to the choir. If it was someone like lil wayne or 50 cent or Jay-z Than that would be something. An experiment: In the space of 10 seconds, think of 5 MCs who've had homophobic content relatively recently. Now in that same time name 5 artists from the other genres you named. You needn't prove or disprove anything to me, but I'm gonna guess the latter challenge was significantly tougher (with maybe the exception of dancehall reggae, which is kissing cousins with hip hop).

I'm glad she called it out, and I wish hip hoppers and musicians of other genres would take it on more frontally, too.
