Any current female artist can start wearing an interesting style, and she will take the look immediately before any of them become noticed with it. And it's not because of that trite reason "she's inspired by them," but instead it looks like blatant copying, with a slight change to make the styles look like they are original on her. At first it was Beyonce, then Posh Spice of course. But recently I've seen her copy Fefe Dobson (rocker short with long bangs), Cassie (shaved on the side), Janelle Monae (an upward pompadour), Keri Hilson (the blond streaks), and now this new Dutch artist named Eva Simmons. This was posted today on a music blog site (Concrete Loop):

[Edited 10/23/09 1:34am] She's basically the younger, black version of Britney Spears to me (which is initially what Def Jam wanted to market her as from what I've heard) and we all know that Britney has made quite a career off of being just an image with a good soundtrack regardless of how much credit many people like to give her. Not to mention all the little girls who used to worship her and dress like her while singing those sugar-coated sex lyrics which I found to be extremely disturbing and made me want to slap the dog mess out of these children's parents for crucifying artists like Marilyn Manson for doing less to morally destroy their innocent kids than Ms. Spears was doing in heavy rotation on MTV and the radio at the exact same time. As much as it irritates and disgusts me to an extent, the world is full of 'sheeple' (young and old) who seem to buy music more with their eyes than with their ears at times. Personally, I care more about what I hear than what I see and in reality most of these female artists nowadays seem to rely heavily on image and good producers and songwriters to make them relevant and I don't think that's praisworthy, empowering, or even remotely inspiring at all, but that's just my own personal opinion. At the end of the day, if the music sounds good; it sounds good. Honestly, almost anyone who isn't tone deaf and can carry a tune can sing a Britney or Rihanna song just as good as they can so I give 90% of the credit to the people who actually 'make' the music and that's really not either of these two chicks when you read those liner notes in their CD booklets. Yeah i agree, i think she was a lesser version of a Beyonce for Def Jam to market, i mean hello...Jay Z, Beyonce she is at Sony, they wanted something to fit that mold at a label he had stock in. I cant give her Britney credit, we may all think Britney is biting off this and that, madonna and janet wannabe, but at the end of the day britney still has to win you over enough to buy her and go to her shows, Rihanna to me could never be on that ICON level, and yes i would have to call Britney an ICON at this point, good or bad that is what it is, and how she got it, shows how we are today as a public. I think people are giving her a pass on this whole angle of the song, it is in a way disturbing where its almost a cash-in on domestic Violence.
