Updated: Lady Gaga's 'The Fame' Reissue, Tour Dates, "Bad Romance' Video

October 9, 2009

Lady Gaga announced today that she will release The Fame Monster, a re-package of her 4 million-selling album The Fame.

The album will include the entire breakthrough album The Fame, along with eight entirely new songs. The Fame Monster (Streamline/KonLive/Cherrytree/Interscope Records), deals with the seamier side of fame, as experienced by Gaga over the course of her last history-making year.

The new version will be released on November 24, 2009.

Says Lady Gaga, "On my re-release The Fame Monster, I wrote about everything I didn't write on The Fame. While traveling the world for two years, I've encountered several monsters, each represented by a different song on the new record: my ‘Fear of Sex Monster,’ my ‘Fear of Alcohol Monster,’ my ‘Fear of Love Monster,’ my ‘Fear of Death Monster,’ my ‘Fear of Loneliness Monster,’ etc.”

“I spent a lot of nights in Eastern Europe, and this album is a pop experimentation with industrial/Goth beats, 90's dance melodies, an obsession with the lyrical genius of 80's melancholic pop, and the runway. I wrote while watching muted fashion shows and I am compelled to say my music was scored for them. I also composed a ballad for the album, ‘Speechless,’ a song for my father, and it's my favorite work of all. I wrote every piece on the road - no songs about money, no songs about fame. I wrote it for my fans, so I wrote everything in between."

The first club-banging single, the RedOne-produced “Bad Romance,” will be released in early November. Other collaborators on the new tracks include Teddy Riley, Rodney Jerkins, Ron Fair and Fernando Garibay.

Looking forward it. I love Gaga, but the original configuration of "The Fame" only had maybe 4 or 5 really good songs on it. Hopefully this mew version boosts it up to 9 or 10.

BOOO for her looking like Aubrey O'Day in that first picture. Other than that, I can't wait for the re-release. The Fame is one of the best albums I've heard in a long time.

It's a interesting concept. AND I can understand she won't make it a second album because she won't stick to the fame theme for her second album.

Its called cashing in on an idea that you feel needs to be milked more, i love how artists make it seem as this is their "vision" when it was someone dude in a suit that said, "no, lets hold off on a new one, lets slap those tracks on the last one change the cover and get people to buy this again, since they already liked it."

Lawd, I hate when artists do this shit. Why not just put 8 new songs on a whole new album instead of manipulating your fans into buying the same album. I hate this re-issue shit with a few new songs added. It just seems so tacky and lazy to me, but that's just my twocents

I like it when artists put both out at the same time, letting the consumer chose which one to buy. Mika, Madonna, Maxwell, and plenty others have done this, instead of putting two copies of the same album out later. Often times I've put off buying a CD while being suspect of a future spec. ed. version coming out later. If both are available, I'll buy the deluxe the first week it's out. It's usually cheaper, and I get whatever extras are on it.

I thought she had a stellar break-out single even though its lyrics were complete nonsense. lol The rest of her debut album sounded very repetitive though.
I hope she can transfer the quantum leaps she made imagewise over the past four, five months onto her music. She's already in a place where she could bring a whole lot of experimental, leftfield sounds into chart territory (kind of like what André 3000 did back in 2004), so she better use that momentum while it lasts.
I agree with whoever suggested that the record company is responsible for this re-issue mess. I kind of long for the times when artists used to treat the audience with a whole new album project every year, but it's record labels who don't allow that sort of creativity nowadays.

'tis true.

But at least she's trying to do something really interesting for the fans w/ the music itself, and not just a few extra filler songs. Rihanna's album only added 2 new tracks on the reissue, I believe.

except, you know, she's got an entire other disc on this, rather than one or two songs.

but yeah, you're right, she's TOTALLY ripping people off and getting them to buy the SAME EXACT ALBUM.

It bothers me how insecure she is about showing her face. It also bothers me how willingly her management / record company etc. endorses that face-covering thing as well. She's not a naturally good-looking individual and whilst her playing with certain looks might be interesting for a moment, it leaves me mostly just feeling awkward about the whole thing. confused

On one hand it might be seen as positive that a rather unattractive 20-something woman has become a high-profile star during this current cultural frame that so strongly favours beauty stereotypes, on the other, her gimmicks / outlandish make-up and such would just seem to enforce the notion that her type of a face shouldn't be seen in the public too much.

she is not ripping people off if you can just buy the extra cd on i-tunes without the old stuff

it has been a while that her first single came out and at that time i just thought she was another pop singer

but now it appears she is more than that - and i am finally ready to buy her record so this is a nice idea if you ask me

Its not so much "ripping off" because this has been going on awhile now, whether its a re-issue with one track, two tracks, a rap remix, a bonus dvd, its another year another gimmick. BUT DONT try to sell it as this was "my move" and "i told the label" no, the label TOLD YOU this was how it was going to come out, this is how they forecasted what would sell better, as an entirely new disc and waiting a year or smacking it on the album that most that want it got it already, and this is just to maybe to get at least half of those to buy it again, and the others who dont have it a new hit or two to get them in. Its for sales, this is not an "artistic move", i mean if we dont like when Alicia or beyonce talk this way, why do we grant passes to others? double standard totally

because gaga is infinitely cooler than them.

and she didn't say it was her decision. maybe in official releases, because otherwise the record company would get all butthurt and pissed off. she said that she wanted to do a completely different album, but the record company wouldn't let her.
