What does Aretha have against women and what were the stories re her and Patti and Natalie and Mavis?

For whatever reason, Aretha has never been quick to praise another female artist. But, I know she has publicly admired Chaka, Nippy, Mimi and Mary J.

Yeah, unfortunately,Aretha has always felt threatened by other female singers.Just a few years ago,she made a big deal when Beyonce referred to Tina Turner as "the queen" shrug I heard a story that she once saw Gladys Knight in an airport,Gladys said Hi but Aretha totally ignored her.

Anita is nasty? since when?

Since always. biggrin I live in Michigan so I know a lot of nasty stories about Baker. Again, she makes Diana Ross look like Mother Theresa. biggrin

I read the whole story about her fued with Luther. I can't recall if it was part of David Nathan's "Divas" book or if I read it in a magazine. But, yes, Luther was making it very clear that he did not care for Anita at all because of her attitude and disrespect towards him.

Don't forget Mr.Rick James lol

He talked ALOT of smack about her in his book.

That wasn't it lol

Back in the 60a, Gladys & The Pips had their own jet, they saw Aretha stranded, so they offered her a lift, she got up, didn't say a word through out the whole trip, and when they finally landed, she got out without a single thank you disbelief

When Gladys told this story in the press, Aretha said in her book "I understand Gladys frustration because of her recent sales decline" omfg falloff Like I said earlier, SHADE evillol

Rick talked about Anita? WTH did she do to piss him off? You guys need to come out with the full stories instead of just teasing. We want the dirt!

I remember the Aretha-Beyonce spat. Bouncy can't win with those older divas. Etta James tore a piece outta her hide to. Aretha was being petty. I don't like Bouncy, but I was with her on that one.

- With Natalie, I think she came out with a stream of hits and people started calling her the "New Queen of Soul" AND she broke Aretha's Grammy-winning streak

- Aretha dissed Natalie but I forgot how hmmm

nod yeah,Aretha was jealous of Natalie Cole.In the mid-70s,Natalie burst onto the scene and critics were raving about her, referring to her as the top R&B singer. She won Grammys and had Top 10 hits,at a time when Aretha's own albums weren't doing very well.Aretha resented this.

Interestingly,a few of Natalie's hits from this period ("I've Got Love On My Mind" and another one) were originally intended for Aretha.

I don't like Natalie. She seems rather self righteous and I don't think her music has aged that well. Sounds like Vegas.

Yea, he is.
He's a shady businessman that blackballed many artists under his own label.

As my mother says, "It's folk who've screwed everything that moved and didn't, done every drug, have done everthing under the funkin sun who hit middel-age and sing a different tune. Deem the ones who get holier than thou or find religion."

Ms. Cole spent most of her lifetime high than sober and ruined a kidney to boot. Sista girl needs to go sit in a corner ... rolleyes

I try to give her the benefit of the doubt though, her whole attitude might've been "Fix yourself up, I've been there and it ain't whats it cracked up to be". "MIGHT've been" now lol

Or maybe, she did forget that her closet was full of graveyards, who knows. Like I said I love The Cole, but that whole Amy Winhouse fiasco made me pause for a minute.

Throughout the years,I've heard some unflattering stories about Anita Baker.Hell,a few years ago, even Babyface had a falling out with her.He actually had to sue her because she didn't pay him for a song that he gave her.

Did Luther mention the car crash in his book and his boyfriend who died as a result of it? That book sounds interesting.

I always felt there was something more to that story! Nver heard anyone say that was his boyfriend but I believe that was when I started to wonder. Not that It made a difference because I purchased 2 more albums after that.

Yeah, Natalie was too self righteous with Amy Winehouse and that turned me off. I got very pissed over that.

So Luther was the one driving that car when the accident happened?

How did we get on the subject of Prince and Anita?
