“You’re everything I’ve dreamt of for 20 years,” said Australian dance-pop princess Kylie Minogue to the lucky crowd that witnessed the Oakland opening-night performance on her first-ever North American tour. As a platform for a singer who only briefly tasted mainstream U.S. fame with her 1988 cover version of “The Loco-Motion” and her 2001 breakthrough “Can’t Get You out of My Head,” the show provided everything her patient cult would want — except a satisfying sound mix. Minogue doesn’t possess vocal power, but like Diana Ross, her precise yet joyous phrasing sets her apart from lesser, more self-conscious upstarts. Yet throughout a set that mixed tracks from her last three albums, import singles and unreleased material, her band and blankets of reverb often overwhelmed Minogue’s pop-perfect sighs. Several songs early in the evening were rendered almost unrecognizable.
Introduced with an entrance during “Light Years” atop a descending metallic skull, Minogue’s spectacle never relented once. Her silver space vixen costume recalled vintage Labelle and Barbarella outfits with a headpiece featuring a solar system of planets dangling around her extraordinary face. She spread her arms, and the crowd cheered as if visited by a long-awaited visitor from a distant planet. Eight helmeted dancers followed her in tight formation for “Speakerphone” as video screens flashed projections that varied throughout the evening from surreal films featuring the photogenic star to the billboard-friendly artwork of her numerous singles. When necessary, Minogue can toss her tiny frame around with the agility of a professional dancer. Yet more remarkable was her poise: She made no unnecessary or ungainly movements, and at times seemed to be traveling at a speed slightly slower than gravity would ordinarily allow. At 41, she is infinitely more sexy than she was in her 20s. Her grace is improbable, yet all the more compelling for its mystery. As befitting her overseas superstar status, Minogue’s show was high on flash and costume changes. She strutted during “In Your Eyes” in a plush and fluffy coral-colored coat that came off for a lengthy medley that began with “Shocked” as video screens spoofed the U.K. style magazine i-D; her all-Kylie version renamed the publication k-M. “I know it’s taken me a little long to get here, so I thought I’d give you guys a first,” she explained before launching into a strutting new tune, “Better Than Today.” Three female dancers laid on the floor to hold microphone stands belonging to Minogue and her backing singers. These two women boasted the evening’s most striking fashion innovation — neon pink wigs worn as shoulder pads. For the sequence that began with “Like a Drug,” Minogue reappeared as a jaunty sailor — if sailors actually wore cutaway evening gowns. Chanting from the crowd boosted the vocal melody of “Can’t Get You out of My Head” while Minogue held a California license plate that read, “♥s KYLIE.” Musicians playing sax, trumpet and trombone joined her four-piece band to transform “2 Hearts” into sassy big-band swing. During “Red Blooded Woman,” she straddled a gymnast’s pommel horse, then crawled over it and arched her back over the pommels in a simple but astoundingly sensuous display. As made overt during a medley of Minogue’s “Burning Up” and Madonna’s “Vogue,” much of Minogue’s show picked up where Madge left off at her Blonde Ambition peak, a task attempted but not quite fulfilled by countless well-funded sirens. The difference is that Minogue radiates a bliss that can’t be bought. Even in the midst of painstaking choreography, her sense of ecstasy is utterly of the moment. When a throng of exceptionally organized fans sent a wave of Mylar pillows unexpectedly bouncing toward the stage during “Wow,” she registered astonishment but without missing a beat grabbed a pillow and twirled around the stage as if she’d just been handed a tremendous present. It takes a special kind of star to accommodate and make the most of an unplanned special effect, and Minogue is effortlessly, exactly that. Set List: “Light Years” “Speakerphone” “Come into My World” “In Your Eyes” “Shocked”/”What Do I Have to Do?”/”Step Back in Time”/”Spinning Around” “Better Than Today” “Like A Drug”/ “Boombox”/ “Can’t Get You out of My Head” “Slow” “2 Hearts” “Red Blooded Woman” “Heart Beat Rock” “Wow” “White Diamond” “Confide In Me” “I Believe In You” “Burning Up”/ “Vogue” “The Loco-Motion” “Kids” “In My Arms” Encore: “Better The Devil You Know” “The One” “Love At First Sight” You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

For those that didn't go, it would be a really nice DVD release! It seems like all her recent shows have been issued on CD except maybe the latest, no? So maybe this would make a good DVD with documentary footage and all. And hopefully she does more shows. Sounded like a big success.

Well what can I say that ehuffnsd already hasn't? lol
i'm a bit tired so excuse the scattered post and review. i'm still on such a high from this weekend. both shows were amazing!!! from the minute the lights went out saturday night at the Pearl theatre in Las Vegas, everyone was standing to welcome the Queen of Pop. if you get the chance to see a show there, go! it's quite intimate. seemed like every seat was a great one. my friend bought us tickets that were right above the floor to the right. i think i was about 20 people away from her. lol. the stage seemed small though. almost like a half stage. but none the less KYLIE gave a full out performance as usual. going through hit after hit, hardly anyone sat down from what i could tell. even through the couple ballads she through in. i didn't tear up, but i did feel a wave of emotion come over me. it was surreal. the show was flawless...almost. one of the dancers missed a step and bumped into the other one in front of him during "Red Blooded Woman". took him a couple seconds to recover, but he did. during "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" Kylie lifted a little girl (probably age 2 or 3) into her arms. it was a heart warming moment. this crowd definitely was full of hardcore fans, or at least those who were fans prior to the "Fever" album. after or before she sang "The One" she said she heard that people were wanting this song or that song; so she asked us what we wanted to hear. probably every song of her catalogue was yelled out to her. she laugh and grabbed her head in response to the insanity of the crowd's requests. lol. so she went with an a cappella version of "Got To Be Certain" as the crowd of course sang right along with her. a huge round of applause followed as did with the ending of each song. through out the show i felt like i was listening to the soundtrack to my life. and a part of me felt like a young innocent catholic boy all over again. i still couldn't believe Kylie was on stage just feet away from me. no one's made me tear up at a show just because they were performing on stage. and i don't mean by singing a beautiful song or telling a gut wrenching story. i mean by merely standing on a stage. i don't allow myself to get that carried away. but she came close. i was still in awe after the show. my friend not only bought me great seats, and paid for the hotel stay, she also bought me the programme and a t-shirt. after the show i went and bought the other two shirts and the poster. and my voice was shot that night. as if that wasn't enough, we headed back to the hotel, gathered our things and were off to Los Angeles. now we had to get ready for sundays's show!! this time there were 6 of us. get to the Holywood Bowl, hang out, watch fans come in, blah blah blah... so we were seated in pairs. my friend (same one from saturday's show) asked where we were sitting and i told her i wasn't sure when we were ushered to the 4th row she was 'shocked'!!! that was the surprised i had been holding on to for months. because i told her i got the best one's i could but i think the seats would be ok. a couple people were buzzing that Perez Hilton was sitting a couple seats in fron of us. ok... i don't really get starstruck unless it's KYLIE or Madonna, so, whatever. after the DJ (her assistant's husband. useless info to some i'm sure. lol ) did his set; they showed the competition winner's fan made video for her song "Speakerphone". brilliant video. and deserved to win! there was a man in the row behind us who was quiet overweight, had a great smile and personality and was screaming 'KYLIE!!!!!' at the top of his lungs. it was a scream that made us all laugh along with him. and we know she heard him before the curtain came down. the bowl was packed!! well it is sold out tour. another amazing show. this time she was an arm's length away. 4th row? what 4th row? everyone had shifted themselves to where the seats didn't matter. i was jumping, dancing, screaming, singing and taking pictures all night. KYLIE MINOGUE was all up in my face!!!! i think i drooled a little. dear Lord in heaven...that woman is even more gorgeous in person. set list was almost the same. this time there was no "The One". instead she did a slow and jazzy performance of "I Should Be So Lucky". which she had done on a previous tour, but not the previous nights of this tour. this crowd went ape shit for Ms. Minogue. as you can see on some YouTube clips. i even saw myself in a couple clips and pics posted. her voice is angelic and powerful to say the least. i was laughing as i did the night before at all the people, mostly men, trying to hit the high notes with her especially in songs like "Light Years", "Confide In Me". but all in good fun. i didn't want the night to end. i kind of forgot about my friend a few times. my friend is about 5ft1 or 2 i'm just under 5 ft7 so every Kylie fan for themselves!! besides, all the tall ass people decided to get the tickets in front of me! but i wasn't having it. the man behind me told me to go on up there. practically pushing yet encouraging me up to the front. lol. a couple guys recognized us from the Vegas show and asked if we were going to the Chicago and New York shows as well. he must've thought i was some kind of groupie or something. trust me.. i was considering it. ANYWAY....Kylie proved once again was she is every bit the showgirl, diva, pop phenom, global megastar with and inviting smile angelic voice and legs i would definitely love wear as earmuffs. oh yeah..the band and dancers were great too. i may have to change my name. how does Chico Minogue sound? Kylie Minogue knows how to make an entrance. For her first ever Los Angeles show at the Hollywood Bowl, the pop diva descended from the venue's famed arches standing triumphantly atop a giant metallic human skull. And that was just the beginning of the eye-popping, hits-filled run through Minogue's career that was replete with numerous costume changes, massive digital screens, dazzling laser displays and a hard working fog machine. Minogue is still something of a pop curiosity in the U.S., despite having enormous success outside of America. In the U.K., she's notched 12 top 10 albums and another 32 top 10 singles -- seven of which reached No. 1. Here in the U.S., she's only flirted with the Billboard charts, where she's netted seven Hot 100 hit singles, including the top 10s "The Loco-Motion" and "Can't Get You Out Of My Head." Thus, when Minogue announced her first-ever North American tour back in May, you could hear the collective gasp from her fans who were absolutely convinced that she would never tour these shores. The prayers of Minogue's devotees were answered when she opened her mini-trek on Sept. 30 in Oakland, Calif. At her Bowl show, Minogue reached back far into her catalog, offering up her very first single, "The Loco-Motion," as a sultry cabaret number while she also wowed the crowd with a dancetastic rendition of "Can't Get You Out Of My Head." Let's be clear -- this wasn't a lip-syncing showcase. Minogue sang live and was in fine voice throughout her set. Minogue also introduced a brand new song, "Better Than Today," which she said would be on her forthcoming album. The sexy stomper is two parts Minogue pop magic, with one part Donna Summer (circa "Bad Girls") and a dash of the Pussycat Dolls' strut. By the time Minogue's handsome male dancers were "showering" onstage in nothing but briefs to introduce the sexed-up "Red Blooded Woman," Minogue had the audience eating out of her petite hands. The crowd also got a treat in the show's encore, as her peppy second hit single "I Should Be So Lucky" was added to the setlist in heart-warming ballad version. While the crowd was seemingly mostly made up of men older than twenty-something, there were a good number of women as well. Fans of Minogue who have followed her numerous tours over the years via DVD or YouTube will recognize many of the new shows elements and song arrangements. She has repurposed some of the best moments from her previous globe-trotting outings for her first U.S. tour -- thus giving American concertgoers a taste of what they've missed all these years. The singer's tour next visits Chicago's UIC Pavilion on Wednesday, Oct. 7 and then heads to the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Friday, Oct. 9. Minogue wraps the trek with a three night stand at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom from Oct. 11 through Oct. 13. Here is Kylie Minogue's setlist: "Light Years" "Speakerphone" "Come Into My World" "In Your Eyes" "Shocked" / "What Do I Have to Do?" / "Spinning Around" (medley) "Better Than Today" "Like a Drug" "Boombox" / "Can't Get You Out of My Head" "Slow" "2 Hearts" "Red Blooded Woman" (with an excerpt from "Where the Wild Roses Grow") "Heart Beat Rock" "Wow" "White Diamond" "Confide in Me" "I Believe in You" "Burning Up" / "Vogue" "The Loco-Motion" "Kids" "In My Arms" Encore: "Better the Devil You Know" "I Should Be So Lucky" "Love at First Sight" LOVE ♪♫♪♫ ♣¤═══¤۩۞۩ஜ۩ஜ۩۞۩¤═══¤♣

It took her 20 odd years to crack America.
But now the yanks can’t get enough of Kylie Minogue. The Aussie star wowed the audience so much that sister Dannii tells us they want to keep her over there. Instead of coming home to Blighty, she is getting ready to follow in the footsteps of the greats like Elton John, Shirley Bassey and Celine Dion to become a Vegas Showgirl. Dannii told us: “The response from her shows in America have been phenomenal. “They love her out there. She was nervous about going over for the first time, but it has gone better than she expected. “She has now been asked to take the show back to Vegas and extend it as a residency over there. I’m so proud of her.” Vegas promoters were stunned by the glitz and glamour of Kylie’s tour and the power it had to pull in celebs when she performed at the Palms. So they moved quickly to offer her a Vegas residency as soon as she has finished her first US tour at the end of the month. Paris Hilton demanded the best seats in the house to bring boyfriend Doug Reinhardt and friends to see the singer at her show in the Nevada casino city on Saturday. Brits Fearne Cotton and Sam Sparro were also there singing along to all of her hits. Delighted Dannii has pledged to take a break from X Factor to be in the front row of her residency to cheer on her sister. She added: “She called to tell me how well everything has been going and about the Vegas offer. I was joking with her that The Showgirl is finally where she belongs. “Kylie’s show is perfect for Vegas, it’s so theatrical. She has loved performing out there.” Just promise you won’t stay away too long, Kylie ... http://www.mirror.co.uk/c...-21733288/ You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

I saw the Vegas show last week and the Toronto show tonight.
Toronto is her only arena stop on the tour. The put the floor and the lower bowl on sale and it basically sold out (about 10,000 people, or about 5x the capacity of all the other shows - besides the LA show - she is doing on this tour). My LiveNation contact told me that they were VERY pleased with ticket sales. I had fourth row floor. The show was crazy good and the crowd response was insane. I think she is definitely going to make Toronto a stop on all her international tours from here on out. She should have booked Madison Square Garden in NYC instead of the three shows at the smaller venue. For the crowd request, there was obvious consensus: Your Disco Needs You. I know she did it at the Chicago show, but here the brass trio was brought out and the band did the entire arrangement with them (not acappella). Absolutely f**king awesome. She did the whole "Are you ready to go to the opera?" thing from the X Tour and then fucking killed it vocally. I got goosebumps. She spent a lot more time on stage at the end versus Vegas. I think she was surprised and touched by the number of people who came out for her. Someone passed her a Canadian flag and she wrapped herself in it during 2 Hearts ("I'm in love!"). In Vegas, someone passed her their baby during Can't Get You Out of My Head and she sang to the child - that was fun. Yes, I think the Toronto show was the one to beat. MUCH more dynamic than Vegas (because of the larger crowd and their involvement), and Kylie responded in kind with extended crowd banter. The new song she debuted on this tour is great - very glam rock mixed with dance. It's called "Better Than Today". "We just want tomorrow to be better than today, YEAH" I recorded the entire audio of the Toronto show so will have it for posterity. It will be interesting to hear how it sounds on the album versus this live version. There was one Steadicam at the stage at the Toronto show - I wonder if she was filming part or all of the show for a release? Kylie's voice is pitch perfect, and she does all her shows completely live. Reviews I have seen so far seem quite shocked by this (it's the norm for all her tours), but I guess that just speaks to the bullshit that is now accepted by the mainstream American music industry. I think she is quite underrated as a vocalist primarily because of the type of music she sings. But my God, she is a damn good singer. [Edited 10/9/09 21:53pm]
