It's not clear but it was probably about Tammi Terrell.

Okay, here's my funny childhood story regarding this song
Back in 1974,my parents had the 'Let's Get It On' album.I was a little kid so I was just learning how to read.I would always look at album covers, read the song titles and try to figure out what it was called.Being a silly kid,I assumed that this song was titled "Dristan Lover"...lol...in the 70s,Dristan was a popular over-the-counter nasal spray.I was wondering why Marvin would do a song about it,lol.

Love this I've lost the use of my heart, But I'm still alive, Still looking for the life, The endless pool on the other side, It's a wild wild west, I'm doing my best, I'm a soldier of love, Every day and night, I'm soldier of love, All the days of my life.

Yeah, and you can argue that 'Just To Keep You Satisfied' was a prelude to the Here, My Dear album, which was released 5 years later. Check me out and add me on:

It's not clear but it was probably about Tammi Terrell. Wasn't the whole album about Janice,,,or was I Want You about her? The only thing I know is when Ed Townsend wanted him to sing "If I Should Die Tonight" to HER in person,,,,I know you know the rest because I seem like I forgot it

"Let's Get It On" wasn't really about her, Marvin was experiencing one night stands before he dated JANIS (Marvin hated it when they called her Jan or Janice, lol). I think "If I Should Die Tonight" was the only song where he was INSPIRED about Janis. I Want You was about Janis tho.

The live recording of this is one of my favourites of all-time. I love the way the crowd reacts to the lyrics.

One of my favorite Marvin cuts "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."
