Music has gotten to the place where we question why every hot untalented woman is not a superstar in America? Shouldn't we really be asking why these people are superstars in any country?

She has a certain warmth and certainly stage presence that other "untalented" [if you want to call them that] female singers lack. On top of that she has the songs which is a lot better than the likes of Britney can say. She puts on a great show, sings live all the time, sings in key and for me personally she's a huge part of my childhood.

The US has Janet Jackson, Europe and Australia has Kylie.

On 30/09/2009 when Kylie plays her first North American Date in Oakland during her "For You For Me" tour - Kylie will have done something UNIQUE by a single performing artist in the history of music. Something that Julio, Elton, Madonna, Sting, Billy Joel, Mariah, Michael Jackson and hundreds of other artists have never accomplished - and something ONLY 2 Bands (U2, Rolling Stones) have done.

On 30/09/2009 Kylie will have played a concert on ALL 6 of the World's Continents (North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, AustrailAsia) in less than 14 months.
Go ahead - look it up.

You can probably count on 1 hand the number of bands or single artists who have played a concert on 6 continents during their career.
Yes some artists have flown in to play a single song on different continents but it takes a very special artist to have the global star power to perform a concert on all the continents in such a short period of time.

Usually Africa is the continent that is the least toured by major artists with most only touring South Africa. But with her concert this year in Morocco, Kylie has joined this exclusive club.

I think the "GAY" thing is a problem. Madonna did a sod you attitude and put gay dancers out there almost as attitude-and oh yes madonna you used them like you used Sandra bernhard, that was more like "If you don't buy into this then you are shit" i.e. a patronising and condescending cow. Kylie Minogue however would perform with dancers whereby there is no agenda therefore if you are buying into it then you directly like what you see i.e. you are gay. I am not judging here -I am just highlighting bullshit-particularly Madonna's. I wouldn't buuy a Kylie record but I've always like her for her liking Prince (I know that makes me sad) but I have always thought of her as a consumate professional that would never cover a lack of talent, if she can do it she will-if not she won't

The point is that most dance-pop fans in the USA and the industry itself were so focused on Madonna & Janet that there wasn't any room for Kylie like there should have been.

And don't get me started with how Shania Twain & Mariah Carey took up a lot of room in the 90's.

Her career resurgence happened during the years when the US music industry seemed to be quite strongly keeping their domestic market in their own hands. They weren't letting European artists through the airwaves at all during one point - I wrote a really long post on that years ago.

"Can't Get You Out Of My Head" got through because it was just such a dirt-good track, though it didn't have the same impact in the US that it had elsewhere in the world. But yeah, during the first half of the decade the companies were pushing to the Europe also the type of American artists that had no chance of having commercial success over here (a lot of the mainstream R&B was promoted on the video channels really heavily and played in the radio, even if the record buyers couldn't have been interested less). It was pretty much the same thing with Robbie Williams. That is, Robbie and Kylie are comparable as far as their status elsewhere in the world is concerned, not necessarily as artists or to what kind of audiences they gather to. Kylie has been pretty much universally loved also in the more underground electronic music circles.

Kylie's "Evidence" book is far freakier than Madonna's "Sex" book. Not dirtier, or more vulgar - just freakier.



And although Kylie seems fluffy and wholesome, you have to remember that she slept with Michael Hutchence (whom when asked by an interviewer what his favourite hobby was at the time, replied "corrupting Kylie").

Michael Hutchence enjoyed putting oysters up ladies' front bottoms, teasing them out again with his tongue and eating them. I'm not saying that Kylie herself indulged in this bizarre ritual, but it's certainly food for thought.
