SHOWDOWN... The SMITHS vs. THE POLICE 
I know the Smiths are always compared to The Cure due to Morrissey's disdain for Robert Smith, but seldom are they ever compared to The Police. The comparison doesn't seem obvious at first, but both had charismatic frontmen and both achieved a massive cult following. The police went on to achieve worldwide superstardom while the Smiths languished in cult obscurity (at least in American radio venues), but I've always wanted to see comparisons between the band. sooooo.... which band is it for you? | |

I was a fan of the POLICE but I was way into THE SMITHS a whole lot more. I was mainly attracted to Morrisey's humorous lyrics. The Police. More accessible music. Lusher sound. Somewhat more versatile.
Sting's lyrics weren't as inspired as Morrissey's -- and his voice isn't quite as interesting IMHO -- but he was decent enough. Plus, while a young Morrissey was arguably better to look at from the neck up, Morrissey's always been an annoying, insecure jerk... and Sting would own his Nancy butt in a fight.  Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I don't think the Smiths have actually physically attacked each other, as
Sting and Stewart Copeland have. The Smiths had a few good songs (imho) how soon is now this charming man girlfriend in a coma The Police had a world sound, more musical innovation, and more hits.. Police easily over the Smiths | |
