I remember this so well. I was in the 7th grade. I watched this with 2 of my best friends on a 3 way phone connection. We watched the whole awards show in anticipation of Michael's performance. He totally killed it... even in the chair! It was so exciting. I just dont get excited for live tv performances they way we did back then. Things have really changed. There isnt the same degree of star power now as there was then.

Someone, please, explain to me why this is such a brilliant song??! drool

After all these years, I still think it's amazing - yet so deceptively simple. There's not much there, or so it seems, but it is just BRILLIANT. love I can't work out what makes it is so good. lol It's like nothing else in his catalogue.

I love it!!

highfive The song is just killer. It's timeless and the video is definitely timeless. I'm obsessed with egyptian mythology and history, especially Queen/Pharoah Nefertiti, who is played by Iman in this video. She's often considered the forgotten queen so I was really surprised to see Michael choose her instead of Cleopatra for this video. Nefertiti was the original strong queen long before Cleopatra was even born; Michael knew what was up...smart man that Mr. Jackson. nod

highfive I totally agree. Teddy Riley REALLY outdid himself since this doesn't sound like anything he ever did. I'm already a huge fan of Egyptology so the lyrics, music, vocals, and imagery combine perfectly to definitely put this song in my top 3 fave MJ songs and videos. nod

highfive The funny thing that I just realized is that both Michael and Prince had Egypt on their minds at around the same time. 'Remember The Time' came out in 1991 and the Symbol album from Prince came out in 1992 and Prince said he was very inspired by Egypt at that time. Great minds think alike as they say. nod

haha this is hilarious! You can hear the crowd chant "go Michael, go Michael" towards the end - I think they thought it was all part of the act and any minute he would jump out of the chair and bust a move... alas lol

Yeah, that is a coincidence! hmmm

Whenever I hear this song, I imagine Teddy and MJ had loads of fun putting it together. And hearing that live version - with the stripped down parts - it really accentuates how strong the drums, bass and vocals are. Then there's that 'church' organ and funny little 'whoosh' noise that appears every now and again... I love it. lol

Agreed! highfive Back in the day, I used to love the Brits/MTV awards, etc - you could always guarantee at least ONE iconic performance, if not several, that were worth watching. The level of artistry was much higher, the budgets were sometimes lower, even, but they were an event. I hate saying all this because it makes me seem like an old git lol but my interest just wanes and wanes. I watched the Brits a couple of years ago and from start to finish, it was just BORING. Non-one with the calibre of MJ, Madoona, Prince, Janet, etc.. Now we live in an age where record labels need to put adverts in their cd booklets - remember when it was all about the music?!

Back to award shows, though, if you take a look at Prince's American Music Awards performance (1985?) and the production values used, it seems almost quaint now! lol The set is minimal, there are no theatrics... just a kickass band with a killer song. That was all that was needed. Now, it's all style ovr content.

watch a Jackson 5ive performance

You can tell they practiced not to be just tight on stage, but to appear as a unit. They had perfect timing with each other and if someone missed a step, they quickly got back in on the groove

...that's that Joe Jackson Whup Ass Training Method. Crude BUT effective lol that'll have you dancing your hurt ass in a chair, dancing while your hair on fire type of training. You know on one hand it is undeniable that Joe Jackson is the walking scum of the earth, and yet on the other hand he turned that man into an empire. He taught him professionalism, work ethic, and commitment, too bad he was just too overly heavy handed.

that shit was awful.

injury or not i don't give a fuck, he didn't injure his voice did he.

Introduction like he's a god and you get the most over-rated, walking statistic sitting in a chair miming and twitching like something from Silent Hill.

i love the person but, that fakeness in the music and on stage (mostly post 80s) is something i always unbite my tongue on.

The Acapella gives me chills. Maybe his best vocal performance of the 90's.
He's singing his ass off at the end.

http://www.suntimes.com/n...05.article

BY MICHAEL SNEED Sun-Times Columnist
It's eerie, and it's creepy: An ancient limestone Egyptian bust in the Field Museum is a dead bang look-a-like of singer Michael Jackson.

• • The big question: Did Jackson, who went under the plastic surgeon's knife numerous times, pattern his ultimate appearance after the statue carving?

• • Answer: "I have no idea whether Jackson ever visited the museum, but the similarity between the limestone statue of a woman -- which is about 3,000 years old -- and Jackson is astounding," said a museum spokesman.

• • A history note: The limestone bust, which went on public display in 1988, was carved during the New Kingdom Period (1550 B.C. to 1050 B.C.); the same time period as Ramesses and King Tut.

• • The shocker: In 1993, Jackson, whose face was then virtually identical to the statue, cut a video titled "Remember The Time," which he sets in ancient Egypt -- during the time of the Pharaoh Ramses. (In the video, actor Eddie Murphy plays Ramesses. It also features Magic Johnson and Iman.)

• • The curiosity: The nose of the ancient Egyptian statue, which has been in the museum's private collection since 1899, is disintegrating. At the end of his life, Jackson's nose appeared to be disintegrating.

• • Nasal notes: Famed plastic surgeon Dr. Steven Hoefflin, who claims he began performing nose surgery on Jackson in his teens-- told Jackson he was going to limit him to two surgeries. "If only he'd stopped there," Dr. Hoefflin told Entertainment Tonight.

• • Backshot: The statue, which was not on view at the museum for almost 100 years, now resides near the exit of the "Inside Ancient Egypt" exhibit -- and has been bantered about on the blogs recently.

• • Funshot: It just made a blogger's list of the "Top Ten Things You Didn't Know about Michael Jackson!"
