"Dear Jessie" is a top-10 Madonna song for me, for sure. How dare you put "Keep It Together" at the very end! After "Act Of Contrition"?! It's an average song on an otherwise awesome album. CrozzaUK said: jiorjios said: Hmmm I don't get how they chose Supernatural as a b-side, the song is better than half of Like A Prayer. To me is as good as Express Yourself and much better than Cherish. But I love Dear Jessie too so I'd rather have it replace Love Song, Cherish or Oh Father. Has To Be is another great song. Although definitely not single material, it is as good as anything in Ray Of Light. I think Mer Girl should have been replaced with that one. I don't really care much of the other ROL songs u mention I like Fighting Spirit but it doesn't fit the album much (I have the version of the album with FS on it) and I don't really like Super Pop. I liked ILNY in the beginning I am way too tired of it now. Probably her best tracks not to appear in any of her official albums for me are: 1)Gambler 2)Supernatural 3)Time Stood Still 4)Has To Be 5)Let Down Your Guard I don't count Don't You Know because to me it is another (much better) version of Stay [Edited 8/14/09 5:02am] Spotlight should have been on True Blue, its better than both the final 2 songs, & White Heat. Love Wont Wait is a great track IMO, and had it been polished up by someone like Dallas Austin could have been a huge hit for her. Sadly she let a dispute over writing credits get in the way....very typical. Agreed about Spotlight. I still like it whereas I cannot listen to any of the album tracks from True Blue. I forgot about Love Won't Wait. Yes Madonna's version is great it could have worked as a single. But she gave it to Take That member Gary Barlow who took it to No.1 but destroyed it. Madonna's version was far better.

Act of Contrition 11. Keep It Together Here's how I have it: 1. Oh Father 2. Cherish 3. Like a Prayer 4. Express Yourself [either the Local Mix or Non-Stop Express Mix] 5. Till Death Do Us Part 6. Promise to Try 7. Keep It Together 8. Spanish Eyes 9. Love Song 10. Dear Jessie 11. Act of Contrition "Supernatural" would be either 4 or 5 depending on the day. I think this album is more than a little overrated. I think Madonna clearly outshines it. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I actually might agree with "I Know It" as the weakest track, but it's better than at least 3 songs on each of her other '80s albums (and every album until ROL). Based on the rankings so far, "Act of Contrition" and "Love Song" are easily our picks for the two worst songs. Unsurprisingly, "Oh Father" is our favorite (only 1 had it outside of the top 3) and "Like a Prayer" is not far behind (half of us had it #1). If "Act of Contrition" were more of a song rather than just a sort of funny album ender, it might work. "Love Song"....what can you say. It's interesting, I guess. This was not Prince's best time, frankly.

2. Express Yourself 3. Oh Father 4. Till Death Do Us Part 5. Cherish 6. Keep It Together 7. Love Song 8. Pray For Spanish Eyes 9. Act Of Contrition 10. Promise To Try 11. Dear Jessie Supernatural would probably come in between Till Death Do Us Part and Cherish.

1.) Express Yourself
2.) LAP 3.) KIT are the three best. I dislike Dear Jessie, Love Song, Act Of Penetration, I HATE Spanish Eyes. I have my own version of LAP, with the Pettibone remixe of EY and single remix of KIT replacing the originals and Supernatural replacing SE. This album is really not my fave.

1. Like a Prayer 2. Love Song 3. Oh Father 4. Act Of Contrition 5. Till Death do us part 6. Spanish Eyes 7. Dear Jessis 8. Promise to Try 9. Cherish 10.Express Yourself 11. Music 18. Cherish 17. Nobody's Perfect 16. Vogue 15. Deeper and Deeper 14. Hung Up 13. Drowned World/Substitute for Love 12. Oh Father 11. Frozen 10. Take a Bow I'm sure there are people out there who dislike this song, but I just can't understand why. "Take a Bow" is a gorgeous song with what has to be Madge's best vocal performance ever. The chorus is exquisite: Madonna performs the call while Babyface's response floats in like a cloud. I've always loved cross-voicing and this is an example where it really shines. Babyface sings the higher harmonies throughout the chorus until they repeat and extend the word "say." Gets me every time. "Take a Bow" is her longest-running #1 in America and her last R&B hit. BTW, it was a great choice to title it "Take a Bow" over something like "Say Goodbye" -- gives it a more regal feel. 9. Ray of Light The title track from my favorite Madonna album, this one hit me hard in '98. I had already fallen for "Frozen" (#11), but this song solidified my love for this era. I bought the album when it was released, but I hadn't really gotten around to listening to anything beyond the first single until this dropped. I'm not really into electronic music, but Madonna and Orbit hit a chord with me on this one. I love everything about "Ray of Light." 8. Who's That Girl "¿Quién es esa niña?" Whoever she is, she was all about the Spanish in 1987, wasn't she? This song followed "La Isla Bonita" as a single, becoming an even bigger hit. I still can't believe this song was left off The Immaculate Collection. Because of that decision, I believe it is something of a forgetten #1 in her catalog. Of course, you couldn't escape it 22 summers ago. ¡Esa niña estuvo en fuego! 7. Borderline This song is my oldest memory of Madonna and her first song that I loved. I was in 1st grade when this was popular. As a kid, I was fascinated at how such a happy-sounding song became dark and sad at the chorus. The first "Borderline, feels like I'm going to lose my mind" always gets to me. Then, of course, the backing vocals really take the track to another level. Judging by the survivor thread for the first album, most people here don't love it as much as I do. For my money, Madonna is far and away her best '80s album and this song is the cream of that crop. 6. Secret After the hit-or-miss Erotica era, this song was a breath of fresh air. Released right at the start of my senior year in high school, it really takes me back to 1994. The acoustic start, then the strings, and finally the bass and drums -- that intro is absolute perfection. I also adore the humming in the chorus and the tasteful use of harmony throughout the song. 5. Bad Girl This should've been a bigger hit. It's perfect! Madonna has always been excellent at conveying heartbreak and sadness, but she may be at her best here. When she sings the higher "I'm not happy... this way" towards the end, it feels like she means it. I would've liked Erotica much more if it had more tracks like this. 4. Live to Tell Not just her best ballad, but the first look at a more mature, grown-up Madonna. This song is yet another example of her skill in emoting sadness. "If I ran away, I'd never have the strength to go very far" -- after the dramatic pause, this line is virtually dripping with melancholy. I imagine most Madonna haters would pick this as her best song; strip away her persona, the ever-changing looks, and her fame -- you're still left with a great song. 3. Into the Groove If we're talking about the '80s and you mention Madonna, most people probably think of one of the "Like a..." songs. Instead, my thoughts go straight to this classic. If there's one song that sums up Madonna, it's this one. I also think it has her best bridge ever: Live out your fantasies here with me Just let the music set you free Touch my body, move in time Now I know you're mine 2. Sorry Damn, this one hit me like a ton of bricks! Confessions on a Dance Floor is my second favorite Madonna album and this song is a big reason why. Its lackluster Hot 100 peak is still one of the most mystifying moments in chart history IMO. At her core, Madonna is all about dancing and having fun. None of her songs gets me into the groove (pun intended) more than this one -- I literally cannot keep still while it's playing. I also have to mention the remix. In Madge's case, I've never been a fan of her remixes. With a few exceptions, I'm an album-version kind of guy. However, the Pet Shop Boys remix of "Sorry" is pure genius. I'm still not sure if I love it more than the original or not. Regardless, "Sorry" is probably my favorite pop song of the decade so far. 1. The Power of Good-Bye It shouldn't come as a surprise that my favorite Madonna album is Ray of Light. Tracks from that masterpiece's era make up 9 of my top 50, 5 of the top 25, and 3 of the top 13. For my money, this is the best of the best. At its heart, "The Power of Good-Bye" is a simple song about a relationship gone bad. Well, "simple" may not be the right word; the words expertly tell the story of how this bad relationship was a necessary learning experience that, for all its faults, is hard to leave. Once again, we have Madonna conveying sadness to the hilt. Sonically, William Orbit's efforts create an atmosphere that is simultaneously eerie and beautiful. It all adds up to Madonna's best song.
