i'm STILL salty about the album versions and TIC versions. so lazy. "oh, we already have this bunch remastered, and these over here don't need to be remastered, so let's just throw what we've got on there and call it good and put absolutely no further effort into it."

mad

what's wrong with the Q sound? It sounds still fantastic today. it's excellent.

Everything should have been mixed that way.

well it's completely useless for one thing and doesn't do anything that regular stereo mixing doesn't already. the reason they sound different is because there's echo and different effects on certain aspects of the songs and different things are accentuated in the new mixes.

there's nothing wrong with the q-sound aspects of them at all really. it's the fact that they're remixed at all, many of them for no apparent reason other than just because.

Well, I completed my ideal 3-disc singles compilation of Madonna's career. I tried to include all of the big hits while keeping a balance. I killed me to cut "Angel" and "Gambler," but there wasn't enough room. I had no problem cutting "American Pie" because it sucks.

Album Versions except where indicated

Disc 1 [77:30]
1. Everybody (US 7" Edit)
2. Holiday (7" Mix)
3. Borderline (TIC Mix)
4. Lucky Star (TIC Mix)
5. Like a Virgin (TIC Mix)
6. Material Girl (TIC Mix)
7. Crazy for You (TIC Mix)
8. Into the Groove
9. Dress You Up
10. Live to Tell (Edit)
11. Papa Don't Preach (TIC Mix)
12. True Blue
13. Open Your Heart (TIC Mix)
14. La Isla Bonita (TIC Mix)
15. Who's That Girl
16. Causing a Commotion (Silver Screen Single Mix)
17. Like a Prayer (7" Version)
18. Express Yourself (TIC Mix)
19. Cherish (TIC Mix)

Disc 2 [79:48]
1. Oh Father (Edit)
2. Keep It Together (7" Mix)
3. Vogue
4. Justify My Love
5. This Used to Be My Playground (Barcelona Gold Edit)
6. Erotica (Radio Edit)
7. Deeper and Deeper (7" Edit)
8. Bad Girl (Edit)
9. Rain (Video Edit)
10. I'll Remember (Orbit Remix)
11. Secret (Edit)
12. Take a Bow (Single Edit)
13. Human Nature
14. You'll See (Edit)
15. Don't Cry for Me Argentina (Radio Edit) [can't decide between this or Miami Mix Edit]
16. Frozen (Radio Edit)
17. Ray of Light (Radio Edit)

Disc 3 [73:15]
1. Drowned World/Substitute for Love (Radio Edit)
2. The Power of Good-Bye
3. Nothing Really Matters
4. Beautiful Stranger (Orbit Radio Edit)
5. Music
6. Don't Tell Me (Radio Edit)
7. What It Feels Like for a Girl (Radio Edit)
8. Die Another Day (Radio Edit)
9. American Life (Oakenfold Radio Edit w/o Rap)
10. Hollywood (Jacques Lu Cont's Thin White Duke Mix Edit)
11. Nothing Fails (Nevins Mix)
12. Hung Up (Radio Version)
13. Sorry (Radio Version)
14. Get Together (Radio Edit)
15. Jump (Radio Edit)
16. 4 Minutes (Edit)
17. Give It 2 Me (Edit)
18. Miles Away (Radio Edit)
19. Celebration
20. Revolver

I'm debating whether or not to do at least some minor crossfading.

i'm too anal to let stuff from the same album cross discs like that, unless the grouping of the songs is a shift in sound, like the ballads from an album on a disc and the beats-y stuff on the next, or something lol

Well, I tried to squeeze "Oh Father" onto disc 1 so it would've encompassed the '80s ("Keep It Together" being a single from '90), but it wouldn't fit and I didn't want to cut anything. Thematically, the last 2 LAP singles that start disc 2 are about family. Yeah, that's a bit of a stretch, but I like "Oh Father" as an opener. Obviously, DW/SFL is a good fit there since it's already and album opener. As it were, I split the singles of her two most critically acclaimed albums (and the 2 that ended her first 2 decades). I think it gives the set a certain cohesion and makes you want to go to the next disc.

otherwise looks good - except for your continued bizarro love for TIC versions and obscure remixes lol j/k

lol Well, I mainly went for the shortest lengths. I didn't use the mixes I absolutely hate ("Holiday," "Into the Groove"). The only ones I really felt I needed were "Express Yourself" and "Cherish," which are the definitive versions IMO and much better than any of the other available edits/mixes. Even you can admit the "Cherish" remix is better than the 7" Mix, right?

I hate the Holiday TIC remix, but where can I live to the original ITG version? What's considered the original?

well, I commend you for being able to do it. my own OCD about it has me going in circles trying to come up with a 3-disc version, but even that is giving me fits with the disc breaks and what HAS to be on there, what SHOULD be on there and what i WANT on there lol

yes, I can admit that, definitely. i've been listening to Cherish over and over a few times this week seeing where i can make an edit from the album version to include the breakdown part of the song at the end. sounds pretty easy, without having actually worked on it yet. no idea why they made that cut. it takes the meat right out of it.

oh, and I don't dislike the Immaculate versions at all. I like them quite a bit actually. I prefer Holiday and Cherish and a few others to the original single versions. but on a GH comp, for me, it's got to be the original hit versions.

with TIC, they tried to make it a GH comp AND a remix collection and have it both ways and for me, it ends up not really working as either. it's a great listen and was my re-introduction to Madonna after the moms in the neighborhood made us forget about Madonna when LAV came out (even though they loved her along with us for her first album).

and I don't have any problem with Express Yourself being included in its remixed video version. at all. but that TIC version is too remixed even beyond that version. the law of diminishing returns sets in for me the more Shep re-mixed that song over that 2 year period. it's like he just kept trying to perfect it and it got further and further away from what made the original and his original remix so great.

original version (4:40) is from the 1985 single that was later tacked onto some European versions of the LAV album. it's the one you've heard on the radio that's not the TIC version (they seem to get equal airplay).

actually the ORINGAL original isn't released. it's the version that appears in Desperately Seeking Susan, but I haven't heard it in a long time, so I don't really remember the differences. I think the released version in 1985 was just kind of remixed and the movie version was more demo-y.

It's also on the Angel 12" single.

Ooh, I totally forgot the video for "What It Feels Like for a Girl" used a remix. I don't recall liking that version much when it was released, but I haven't heard it in years. I'll have to revisit it.

Anyone else think that once the video comes out, so will the official release of the track list. I wouldn't be too surprised if it looks just a little bit different than the one leaked by Madonna tribe (ok, I'm hoping it's just a little bit different). I can't imagine it will be a case where they keep it under wraps much longer.

Also, it seems strange that they could shift around the tracklist if everything is to remastered by the original collaborators. These people don't seem like they'd just be on standby to come in and remaster something else to assuage pissed off Madonna fans. lol

why? you have all the songs all ready and make your cds and playlists, it's not like you can't just make something you like better
