Exactly! I'd get a good 3-CD set in a heartbeat! But I have remasters of the first 3 albums and all of the songs contained here. I don't see much of a point in getting a half-assed compilation for 2 new songs, when I can just get the singles. I'm expecting to like the DVD a lot more, though. this is an incredily good greatest-hits... every artist could be proud of this.
unfortunately, M has so many hits, that she's always disapointing fans with a 2 CD set. I'm missing DYU, CAC and the great ballads like You'll See, I'll Remember. On the other site, I own the STR ballads album, and I think that's the reason it hasn't been removed - this ballads album stands for itself. (btw, I think her later ballads wouldn't fit with the STR ballads anyway) I still think Rain is overrated. I find it completely boring. | |

Glindathegood said: midnightmover said: Cyndi's recorded output is extremely patchy and more or less ends in 1996 when her record company pulled the plug on her. Since then it's been pure gimmick albums. She has simply had no control over it. Albums have to be financed and they won't finance her unless she does what they want. That is a great shame, since she's proven just what a great writer she can be. She's a FANTASTIC lyricist for instance. Gets very little credit for it, but if you check it out you'll see just how skilled she is. I won't draw the obvious comparison with Madonna because I don't want this to turn into a Cyndi vs Madge thing. I'm only talking about Cyndi here because YOU GUYS repeatedly brought it up. This makes no sense to me. Cyndi made tons of money in the 80's. She doesn't seem like a wild spender who wasted tons of money on drugs, cars, houses or other silly stuff like some performers. I don't see why she couldn't finance her own music, release it independently and thus do whatever she wants artistically. Many artists with less money and a smaller fan base do that. Record companies may suggest certain things but they don't completely control artists. I don't think Cyndi has no control over what type of music she does and releases. Reality check. Record companies don't control artists IF the artist is in a strong bargaining position. Some artists can do whatever they want. Madonna is one of those, but these artists are in a tiny minority. Cyndi has spoken about this a million times. She grew so frustrated that she actually did do the right thing and go independent in 2001. It was a disaster! The company went bankrupt before her album was even released. Also, from what I've heard the production on the album was poor. That's the danger when you're working on a low budget. Obviously humbled, she soon got back into bed with Sony and released a covers album (Sony hoped she could jump on Rod Stewart's bandwagon there), an album of re-recordings, and then a tacky "dance album" which was a SHAMELESS attempt from Sony to capitalize on her popularity with gays. Bare in mind, this was all after she'd done an album of Christmas songs for them too. The truth is there hasn't been a real Cyndi Lauper album since 1996. Cyndi really should just go independent again, but obviously she got burned once and doesn't want to get burned again. This is a HUGE MISTAKE on her part. What can I say? She's a great performer, great character, frequently a great songwriter, but lacking in judgement if you ask me.
