I'm thinking of making my own set. I think it'll be 5 discs as I'm going to include promo singles, etc. Mind sending me your tracklist with track times?

Here it is, with some notes. It's a quick and dirty version worked up in iTunes playlists because I haven't actually burned a CD compilation in a few years. (Yeah, can you believe it? It seems like that's ALL I ever spent my time doing. Literally.) Can't find the last version I burned, but needless to say, the artwork I made for it was breath-takingly stunning and detailed, as always lol

I used to be able to include radio "hits" like Where's The Party and Don't Stop, or obscure international singles like Over And Over, and my own (complicated!) edits of I Want You and Paradise (Not For Me). I was even able to represent every album with exactly 6 songs. But over time, all of those thing got pushed out as more singles were released and it's now just down to stuff that got an official single/promo.

Disc 1
1 Everybody 3:58 (7" edit)
2 Physical Attraction 3:53 (7" edit)
3 Burning Up 3:43 (album version)
4 Holiday 4:06 (radio edit)
5 Lucky Star 3:50 (edit)
6 Borderline 3:55 (7" remix)
7 Like A Virgin 3:39 (album version)
8 Material Girl 4:00 (album version)
9 Crazy For You 4:12 (album version)
10 Angel 3:43 (7" edit)
11 Into The Groove 4:11 (my own early fade of the original single version)
12 Dress You Up 4:01 (album version)
13 Gambler 3:56 (album version)
14 Love Don't Live Here Anymore 4:02 (my own edit of the album version based on the 1996 remix radio edits)
15 Live To Tell 4:37 (edit)
16 Papa Don't Preach 3:48 (radio edit)
17 True Blue 4:04 (radio edit)
18 Open Your Heart 4:12 (album version)
19 La Isla Bonita 4:01 (album version)
20 Spotlight 4:33 (single edit)

Disc 2
1 Who's That Girl 3:58 (album version)
2 Causing A Commotion 4:05 (silver screen single mix)
3 The Look Of Love 4:02 (album version)
4 Like A Prayer 5:05 (7" version with fade)
5 Express Yourself 4:36 (7" remix)
6 Cherish 4:03 (7" version)
7 Oh Father 4:26 (edit)
8 Dear Jessie 3:55 (my own early fade of album version - the shit just goes ON AND ON)
9 Keep It Together 4:35 (single remix)
10 Vogue 4:22 (single version - though I'd probably now replace it with the album version with that iconic opening)
11 Hanky Panky 3:50 (bare bones single mix)
12 Justify My Love 5:00 (album version)
13 Rescue Me 4:53 (single mix)
14 This Used To Be My Playground 4:43 (Barcelona Gold album version - shorter than the single version for some reason)
15 Erotica 4:33 (album edit)
16 Deeper And Deeper 4:54 (album edit)
17 Bad Girl 4:37 (edit)
18 Fever 4:03 (remix/edit one)

Disc 3
1 Rain 4:33 (video edit - because that radio remix is STRAIGHT UP ASS!)
2 Bye Bye Baby 3:57 (album version)
3 I'll Remember 4:20 (album version)
4 Secret 4:34 (radio edit)
5 Take A Bow 4:31 (edit)
6 Bedtime Story 4:06 (album edit)
7 Human Nature 4:31 (video version - I actually like the effect of the door slam on the word shit, plus "absolutely no regrets" AND the radio version of this song completely sucks)
8 You'll See 4:18 (edit)
9 One More Chance 3:42 (fade - although ironically, the shorter version kind of sucks more than the album version, if you can believe it)
10 You Must Love Me 3:07 (single version - ironically longer than the album version, with strings intro instead of acapella)
11 Don't Cry For Me Argentina 4:30 (miami mix edit)
12 Another Suitcase In Another Hall 3:33 (album version)
13 Buenos Aires 4:06 (te amo radio edit - though I think I'd probably replace it with the album version or one of those rare remixes that sounds like the album version - I kind of hate this remix)
14 Frozen 5:10 (radio edit)
15 Ray Of Light 4:35 (radio edit)
16 Drowned World/Substitute For Love 4:46 (radio edit)
17 The Power Of Goodbye 4:10 (album version)
18 Nothing Really Matters 4:10 (edit)
19 Beautiful Stranger 3:56 (orbit radio edit)

Disc 4
1 American Pie 4:33 (album version)
2 Music 3:46 (album version)
3 Don't Tell Me 4:11 (radio edit)
4 What It Feels Like For A Girl 4:02 (radio edit)
5 Impressive Instant 3:38 (album version - because I hate the remixes and the radio version of them is still too long at 5:30)
6 Die Another Day 3:29 (radio edit)
7 American Life 4:27 (radio edit with rap)
8 Hollywood 3:43 (radio edit)
9 Nobody Knows Me 4:39 (album version)
10 Love Profusion 3:16 (headcleanr rock mix - just because it's freakin' awesome)
11 Nothing Fails 3:46 (radio edit - but I'd probably replace it with the album version - the radio edit loses out so many of the good parts)
12 Hung Up 3:22 (radio version - the one with the vocals in the outro fade)
13 Sorry 3:58 (single edit/radio version)
14 Get Together 3:55 (radio edit)
15 Jump 3:22 (radio edit)
16 Hey You 4:13 (it really pains me to have to include this here, but since it's officially a download single, it'll be the first one to hit the road when there's a new album or single)
17 4 Minutes 3:12 (edit)
18 Give It 2 Me 4:03 (edit - although I may have to make my own edit, because there's way too much of that "get stupid" bullshit in the official one)
19 Miles Away 3:43 (radio edit)
20 Celebration 3:35 (album version - i'm guessing)
21 Revolver ??? (it will go here, I'm guessing)
[Edited 8/2/09 22:42pm]

It's the Immaculate Collection edit that has the What Are You Looking At intro of Vogue

it does indeed, however, it's not an edit. it's actually extended from the album version (and also remixed in q-sound) by dragging out the opening a little longer and i think adding an extra repeat of the breakdown toward the end.

the single version starts right in with the beat and the "what are you lookin' at".

it's on the maxi-single.

woot! I can't believe you haven't made any sets in years. eek Madonna needs to take note of this shit ASAP and hire you.

I used to be able to include radio "hits" like Where's The Party and Don't Stop, or obscure international singles like Over And Over, and my own (complicated!) edits of I Want You and Paradise (Not For Me). I was even able to represent every album with exactly 6 songs. That's why mine extends to 5 discs. I can't leave off "Over and Over" or "I Want You". "Sky Fits Heaven" and "Mother and Father" were dance chart entries, and are welcome additions too!

Disc 1
1 Everybody 3:58 (7" edit)
2 Physical Attraction 3:53 (7" edit)
3 Burning Up 3:43 (album version)
4 Holiday 4:06 (radio edit)
5 Lucky Star 3:50 (edit)
6 Borderline 3:55 (7" remix)
7 Like A Virgin 3:39 (album version)
8 Material Girl 4:00 (album version)
9 Crazy For You 4:12 (album version)

17 True Blue 4:04 (radio edit)
18 Open Your Heart 4:12 (album version)
19 La Isla Bonita 4:01 (album version)
20 Spotlight 4:33 (single edit)

Your own edits? evil

Any reason why "Spotlight" is here instead of after "The Look of Love?" Does it date to the True Blue album?

Disc 2
1 Who's That Girl 3:58 (album version)
2 Causing A Commotion 4:05 (silver screen single mix)
3 The Look Of Love 4:02 (album version)
4 Like A Prayer 5:05 (7" version with fade)

Okay...so between the press release, the lyric sheet on Madonna.com,and the official teaser ad,it looks like these tracks are pretty much confirmed:

Everybody
Holiday
Lucky Star
Like A Virgin
Material Girl
Into The Groove
Live To Tell
Papa Don't Preach
Open Your Heart
Who's That Girl
Like A Prayer
Express Yourself
Cherish
Vogue
Justify My Love
Secret
Take A Bow
You Must Love Me
Frozen
Ray Of Light
Beautiful Stranger
Music
Don't Tell Me
Die Another Day
Hung Up
4 Minutes
Miles Away
Celebration
Revolver

That's 29 of the 36 tracks that will be included (or is it 40?) hmmm

As for the remaining tracks,I think that these songs are likely to be included: "Borderline","Dress You Up","La Isla Bonita","Keep It Together" (okay, this is wishful thinking on my part, lol),"Human Nature" (she performed it on two of her last four tours,so it's clearly one of her personal favs),"American Life" (or she may go with "Hollywood"),and "Sorry" (which was actually a decent-sized hit outside of America).

Very happy to see "Miles Away" on there lol I consider it a new classic Madonna song,so I want it to be on a compilation with the other classics. It's also one of her personal favorites.I just hope they use the album version and not the lame single edit which doesn't feature the cool instrumental Timbaland groove at the end.

"Borderline", "La Isla Bonita" and "Human Nature" will almost certainly be included...with "Sorry", "Nothing Really Matters", "American Life" or "What It Feels Like For A Girl" as maybes confused
I'm still massively in love with "Drowned World/Substitute For Love" but I guess Warners will go for 'uppers' over...um...drowners wink

Just as long as the DVD set includes most of her videos, then I'll be a happy camper.

Is this nearer to the tracklist?

Everybody
Holiday
Lucky Star
Borderline
Like A Virgin
Material Girl
Into The Groove
Live To Tell
Papa Don't Preach
Open Your Heart
La Isla Bonita
Who's That Girl
Like A Prayer
Express Yourself
Cherish
Vogue
Justify My Love
Secret
Human Nature
Take A Bow
You Must Love Me
Frozen
Ray Of Light
Nothing Really Matters
Power Of Goodbye (?)
Beautiful Stranger
Music
Don't Tell Me
Die Another Day
American Life
Hung Up
Sorry
Get Together
4 Minutes
Miles Away
Celebration
Revolver

I think it may be a toss up between "Nothing Really Matters","Power Of Goodbye" and Confession's "Get Together"- I think she may want more Ray of Light tracks as they seem to be more respected by critics, public etc? But don't we see snippets of the "Get Together" video in the trailer for "Celebration"?
Hurry and release the friggin tracklist! wink

I'm still massively in love with "Drowned World/Substitute For Love" but I guess Warners will go for 'uppers' over...um...drowners wink

Just as long as the DVD set includes most of her videos, then I'll be a happy camper.

Yeah,"Borderline" and "La Isla Bonita" are a sure bet.I can't imagine her leaving those two songs off the set.

"Human Nature" feels pretty certain too."American Life' is a maybe.I doubt that "What It Feels Like For A Girl" was ever considered.

Regarding "Nothing Really Matters" and "Drowned World/Substitute For Love".....even though 'ROL' is my second favorite Madonna album,I'm okay with only two songs being included on this set: "Frozen" and the title track.

Is this nearer to the tracklist?

Everybody
Holiday
Lucky Star
Borderline
Like A Virgin
Material Girl
Into The Groove
Live To Tell
Papa Don't Preach
Open Your Heart
La Isla Bonita
Who's That Girl
Like A Prayer
Express Yourself
Cherish
Vogue
Justify My Love
Secret
Human Nature
Take A Bow
You Must Love Me
Frozen
Ray Of Light
Nothing Really Matters
Power Of Goodbye (?)
Beautiful Stranger
Music
Don't Tell Me
Die Another Day
American Life
Hung Up
Sorry
Get Together
4 Minutes
Miles Away
Celebration
Revolver

I think it may be a toss up between "Nothing Really Matters","Power Of Goodbye" and Confession's "Get Together"- I think she may want more Ray of Light tracks as they seem to be more respected by critics, public etc? But don't we see snippets of the "Get Together" video in the trailer for "Celebration"?
Hurry and release the friggin tracklist! wink

On both of our tracklists,we forgot about the 'Erotica' album lol I'd remove "Nothing Really Matters" and include "Deeper And Deeper" instead.

I personally thought the strongest tracklisting was the one on the "leaked" / faked CD back cover:

1. Holiday (Single version)
2. Like A Virgin (Edit)
3. Material Girl (Edit)
4. Into The Groove (Single Version)
5. Papa Dont Preach (Edit)
6. Who's That Girl (Single Version)
7. Like A Prayer (12" edit)
8. Express Yourself (Album Version)
9. Vogue (Immaculate Col Version)
10. Erotica (Edit)
11. Secret (Album Version)
12. Frozen (Edit)
13. Ray Of Light (Edit)
14. Music (Album Version)
15. Die Another Day (Album Version)
16. Hung Up (Radio edit)
17. 4 Minutes (Album Version)
18. Celebration

1. Everybody (Orinal 12" Single Edit)
2. Borderline (Edit)
3. Crazy For You (Single Version)
4. Dress You up (Album Version)
5. Live To Tell (Edit)
6. La Isla Bonita (Edit)
7. Cherish (Edit)
8. Justify My Love (Album Version)
9. This Used To be My Playground (Single Version)
10. Deeper & Deeper (Album Version)
11. Take A Bow (Edit)
12. Human Nature (Edit)
13. Don't Tell Me (Edit)
14. American Life (Edit w/o rap)
15. Sorry (Edit)
16. Give It 2 Me (Album Version)
17. Revolver

I think this is a logical tracklisting. CD1 features all her 1st release singles (Live To tell excluded), plus absolute classics like Material Girl & Express Yourself. CD2 features most of her ballads, and secondary single releases. This maintains a sense of chronology to it, and makes CD1 the sort of ultimate greatest hits disc, and CD2 more interesting and varied.

Id say the only songs you could add to it are "lucky Star" "Open Your Heart" "Rain" "You'll See" "Drowned World".
Of the ones included Id say Everybody and Human Nature should make way for Open Your Heart & Drowned World. That said Everybody was her first single.....its damn difficult.

Ive put it together on my itunes, and it plays really well. My nightmare is if the real thing has a track listing which mixes up the chronology of it all - that would be really wrong.

Not really, but I need it for completeness. If any of "Burning Up", "Gambler", "Oh Father" or "Bad Girl" make the cut, I'll buy the 2-disc set. Do it, Madge.

On one of the fansites, fans are analyzing the lyrics that appear on the cover art/CD booklet. You need a magnifying glass to see it (lol),but they swear that they saw lyrics for "Who's That Girl".

I got to go to the store.

I just noticed there are no "Erotica" tracks on that list! She has to include at least the top tenners, right? It's such a loved album by fans. Then again, it's all about the causal fans and she might want to hide this dirty chapter (like she did with "Who's That Girl").

Me too. Erotica is still such an underrated album - i really wish they'd do a remastered edition of it. The outtakes are fantastic - Dear Father, the original Goodbye to Innocence, the original Thief of hearts. She was really prolific duing this period (for her anyway), and its an era that in hindsight was a lot stronger and full of quality than she was given credit for at the time.

I demand the FULL version of Deeper & Deeper be on this greatest hits - not the crappy fade edit that was on GHV2. Rain & Bad Girl would also be pretty amazing to include - but i cant see it happening to be honest.

I think the title track is enough from that album. Possibly Deeper And Deeper will make the cut too but I think it is a rather poor song especially when compared with its cousins: Express Yourself, Vogue and Rescue Me

eek Deeper and deeper is a handsdown forgotten classic as far as im concerned. Its got my favourite outro to any madonna song (bar the insane fly swatting synth at the end of music).....Madonna, Donna & Nicky belting out "deeper & deeper & Deeper, Sweet & Sweeter & Sweeter". Great stuff.

After listening to it 2 days straight I LOVE IT! Sure at first it sounded like a throw away, but now the beat has just gotten so infectious to me! I am going to be dancing to this song for awhile. I'm only going to be upset with the collection if they use the IC version of LAP over the original album version which is far superior.
