ater 3 listens in the car today, it's official. i hate it. this is down there with Ring My Bell I think that Madonna has realized that music is no longer her bread and butter. It's touring. She's going to keep releasing stuff but it's not going to be her primary focus anymore, artistically.

come on, it's just a song for a best of.
I'm sure she did have as much influence on the song as on Live To Tell or Oh Father. Songs where she even admitted to not have written the music. She just did with Celebration what she always does: Asks a producer to come up with tracks, so she can write lyrics to it. And to say music is not her main way to express herslef artistically is totally wrong. 1.) HC is great, 2.) she never said music was her real love. There are early interviews in which she admits to just use her music as a jump board into film biz. 3.) in 2003 she called herself "performance artist", so basically even then set the focus more on performing than on music? After all, C is not that bad. And at least she gave us something new. Kylie did record a song called Celebration for her GH as well - the K&TG one.

I agree, she should work with songwriters again. Paul Oakenfold certainly ain't one. ROL is a good example of how she could do her future music. Take a producer but also someone like Pat Leonard. His songs can be produced by someone else, but just the songs need to be written by someone who can write great songs. On ROL the greatest songs were by Pat Leonard, Rick Nowels and the title which is a re-write og an 70s songs. In fact, Erotica is the first example of how the quality of her music lacks when she focuses on a producer rather than a songwriter. BS was okay, because the guys she worked with could write songs. But the Music album has so many fillers, just because of the two great ones and the experimental feel it's halfway good.

Heard "Celebration". It's alright. It sounds very much like 90s house. It does it's job in the sense that it's a club jam that'll go good with your average raver and gay club kid. I don't think Madonna was aiming to prove a whole lot with this track(especially that it's a track on a GH set), so just take it for what it is and enjoy it.
That said, I don't know if it'll be a big Top 40 hit. It's too clubbish, which doesn't really fit well in a format where urban beats dominate. It'll hit really good on Dance Radio and in clubs, for sure. But outside of that, I doubt it. Still, I'd give it a good rating.

LOL, well clearly that worked out well. Music is her career. I just do NOT see her having the same passion for it, anymore. Touring is going to be her primary focus, especially with her new LiveNation contract. 3.) in 2003 she called herself "performance artist", so basically even then set the focus more on performing than on music? She's called herself an actress, too, so I really don't think we should go by one- or two-word monikers defining her entire career. After all, C is not that bad. And at least she gave us something new. Kylie did record a song called Celebration for her GH as well - the K&TG one.
Again, it's a matter of opinion. I think Celebration is crap. She really phoned this one in. Not sure what a Kylie cover from nearly 20 years ago has to do with it. [Edited 8/1/09 18:15pm]

It will do decently in Europe, where her core audience seems to be anyway. Anyways it seems to be getting a positive reception so far; i think it should fair decently. And if it doesn't who cares, it's good throwaway fun. Madonna's always best when she's not being pretentious, i don't see this being beneath her at all.

I wonder if that will cover her entire video catalogue. Everyone's holding out for the tour videos too i.e. Paradise, Bedtime Story, Die Another Day

I hate that it was released as a single anywhere, because I hate having to include it on my 4-disc comprehensive singles collection (yes, it really does take 4 discs now. exactly. even with edits.) its b-side Till Death Do Us Part would have made a better single, I think. or at least a more tolerable looking back at her discography 20 years later

Probably not - because it's so 'cute', I think people tend to overlook it. That, and the picture of Madonna wearing Minnie Mouse ears. But it's a great little song - I've always loved it.
