05) Holiday - LP Version (TIC version is better, in my opinion)

Definitely not.Especially that drum break in the end destroys the song

highfive Thank you! Those drums are shockingly bad. disbelief The horror!

If they have to include a second Hard Candy single, I greatly prefer "Miles Away" over "Give It 2 Me," which is my least favorite track not named "Spanish Lesson." Of course, it should've been "Beat Goes On," because that should've been the second single, but whatever...

As for "Hollywood" versus "American Life," well... I don't care too much. They should've gone with the latter, but it's not a huge deal.

Honestly, I'm very happy with the selections overall. The most shocking pick is "Burning Up" IMO. I can't believe it got the nod while "Deeper and Deeper" was left out. Other than that, "Causing a Commotion" being neglected yet again is disappointing, but I was prepared for it. I really hope they make it a b-side to one of the singles, but I won't hold my breath.

I sort of understand the inclusion of Burning Up - it was her second single and was a song that she recorded quite a few times before getting her sire contract. Its obviously one that means something to her, and played a big part in her formative years.

I just cant get my head around the inclusion of Miles Away & Hollywood. On what planet are these considered bigger hits or better songs than Deeper & Deeper & Causing A Commotion? Both songs have been played twice on tour, whereas i cant ever foresee her playing these two again. And what about The Power Of Goodbye????
I guess to include them would basically be her admitting - yeah i was better in the 80s & 90s....which she'd never do. Her best record is always her last according to her.....duh!!

It sounds like you want it both ways, though. The one song on this album that was not a hit in even the most remote sense is "Burning Up." I get its importance, but I thought "Everybody" was filling that role. It's just weird to include both of them on a hits collection when space is at a premium.

OTOH, while I don't agree with the inclusion of "Miles Away" and "Hollywood" either, I can certainly understand why they wanted to include them (or "Give It 2 Me" and "American Life"). It's pretty well balanced now.

I know some will say it's about representing her entire career andit's not about chart positions, but some eras of her career (the begining and the present) are bit too heavily represented! It's almost a joke but since it's Madonna, I'm really willing to believe this is true. Never gets it right!

I've always preferred the original version of Holiday, Express Yourself, and Like a Prayer.

It would be nice for Madonna to just keep the stuff the way it was on her original albums.

If Who's that Girl is on this- I'll be really happy.

I think they're both great remixes and among my favorites, but I guess on a greatest hits collection, I want to hear the hit versions and not remixes done after-the-fact.

that's why the Immaculate Collection has needed to be replaced since about 6 months after it came out, and the fact that they're re-using remixes from it just boggles my mind. if they were going to do that, i would've just said "fuck it, make a GHV3" with the stuff since GHV2 and some additional stuff the missed the cut the first 2 times around.

I see your point, definitely nod - like SoulAlive, I'm sorta resigned to the fact that WHATEVER she releases, unless it's a box-set, it won't please everyone. hrmph Otherwise, I'm quite happy with the track list so far. (Plus, I already have an official version of 'Gambler' on cd so can make do with that mr.green).

I don't know why some fans are disappointed/surprised by this tracklist.Did we really think that they were gonna get it right this time? lol My expectations were low to begin with,so I'm not upset at all. When it was revealed that this would be a 2-CD set,I knew that there was no way they could include all the hits that fans want to hear.I knew that alot was gonna get left off.

I've said repeatedly: The only way to do it right is by releasing a 3 or 4-CD box set that includes everything:all the singles, key album tracks, the soundtrack hits,B-sides and rarities thrown in for good measure.Anything less than that just won't do!
Oh well, maybe one day we will finally get that box set,but I'm not holding my breath shrug

I completely agree with you.

If George Michael made a 2 CD GH and a 3 CD version for the fans, Madonna ought to so something similar taking into account she has recorded many more albums and has a lot of songs to pick to make a compilation.

The fans deserve it!! mad

It's Madonna's last contractual album for WB, so from her I expect very little. I mean, she barely got up off her ass for "Hard Candy" (sans the tour, which pretty much only speaks to the people that already own the album...it certainly doesn't help spawn hit singles from the album). Maybe she'll do some mini concerts, but consider it will be released right after the tour, I'm doubting it (more likely that if there is a call for it, she might extend the tour, but it seems awfully late for that and add "Celebration" as a full track).

true. but i'm wondering how WB will handle it considering it's her last album with them. i'm sure they want to cash in on it as much as possible. and if it's very successful; i hope it'll inspire them to at least release remastered versions of her all her albums. but i won't be holding my breath for it.

some people were hoping for different international releases of this hits package but i don't see that happening either. if anything the japanese release might have an additional song. shrug

I hope that 2010 is a "quiet year" for Madonna. She really needs to take a break.I was surprised when I found out that she was extending her Sticky and Sweet tour. When the tour ends next month, she should relax and spend time with her family. It's not as if we don't have enough to keep us happy for awhile (the Sticky and Sweet tour DVD,the 2-CD 'Celebration' set,the 'Celebration Video 2-DVD set,the upcoming remixes, the "Revolver" single, etc).

these damn lists!! falloff and that would be damn near impossible to give a good representation of her career. a single disc of her hits?? that's just wrong. lol. but anyway.

ok..from what is said to be the official list, this is how i think WB would do a single disc. NOT what I would want!

Hung Up
Music
Vogue
4 Minutes
Holiday
Like A Virgin
Into The Groove
Like A Prayer
Ray Of Light
Express Yourself
Open Your Heart
Borderline
Material Girl
La Isla Bonita
Papa Don't Preach
Lucky Star
Crazy For You
Frozen
Take A Bow
Live To Tell
Cherish
Celebration
Revolver

if it's even possible to fit all those on a single disc. they might leave off "Revolver" as an insentive for people to buy the double disc. and hopefully an alternate cover. same for the dvd.

Today I've realized that Warner could have (and should have) taken more risks, but no, they have only included hits (85%) and singles here; I mean, look at Hollywood for example: it's just an average alternative-rock/electronic song and it was a complete flop as a single, but it will be included only because it was a single, while the TRULY best tracks from American Life are neglected: Nobody knows me, X-static process or I'm so stupid...
Anyway, the inclussion of Burning Up and Everybody is an extremely bold move, so we can't really complain...

Anf for errant: yeah, Rain and D&D could have been included using more edited versions...a shame...

Songs that could have been included in a 3CD box:
-Angel
-True blue
-Causing a commotion
-Where's the party (YCD version)
-Oh father
-Dear Jessie
-Keep it together
-Deeper and deeper ( sad confused )
-Rain
-Human nature
-Bedtime story
-Don't cry for me Argentina
-Drowned world
-Nothing really matters
-What it feels like for a girl
-American Life
-Get together
-Give it to me
