I didn't know that Chris is that tall. He seemed smaller next to Bruce Willis, when he played a character resembling somewhat Prince, in "The 5th Element" lol.

"Thriller" sales soar close to Eagles' "Hits"

For nearly a decade, the Eagles' "Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975" has been the recording industry's ultimate evergreen release, certified by the RIAA as the all-time best-selling album in the United States. But thanks to continued robust demand for Michael Jackson's catalog since his June 25 death, "Thriller" appears on the verge of matching "Their Greatest Hits," at least in the eyes of the industry trade group.

What has actually bugged me for years is that i clearly remember reading a review about one of the very first few Bad shows in Japan, and where it was mentioned that PYT was performed.
I remember being thrilled reading that, because the intro of PYT always gets me chills (that guitar-loop together with touching key-chords), and i could vividly imagine how i would experience hearing that performed live.

According to wikipedia, Thriller was only behind Eagles Greatest Hits by about 1 million copies in the United States. Thriller will soon replace Eagles Greatest Hits if it hasnt already. The RIAA has to offer another platinum cert, possibly another diamond cert. It may become the first triple diamond album in US history. We'll see. http://en.wikipedia.org/w...ted_States

someone, i think dag in the last thread, wondered how grace had gotten so close to mj.

according to deepak chopra, he has known grace since she was young, to the point where she even refers to him as 'papa', according to chopra's daughter. he recommended her to mj for an assistant's job, then from there she was in a perfect position to get close to him, gain his confidence, and become his nanny.

she's originally from rwanda (sp?), and there are no details that i'm aware of about her own family, and why she's so close to the chopras. i wonder if chopra was aware of her pretty intense fandom when he recommended her to mj. i know chopra's daughter defended grace when she gave an interview to a tabloid reporter recently. even though she generally denied talking to this person, or saying that she pumped mj's stomach, the interviewer has a sneak peak of the interview at her website which clearly shows grace talking to her of her own volition.

Michael Jackson's Posthumous Global Record Sales Reach 9 Million
Since his death, the King of Pop has dominated charts in Europe and Australia, as well as the U.S.

By Gil Kaufman

In life, Michael Jackson struggled for decades to reach the record-smashing sales he achieved with 1983's landmark Thriller album. But since his unexpected passing on June 25 at the age of 50, the self-proclaimed King of Pop has once again become the most dominant musical figure on the planet.

Jackson's albums and compilations have locked down the top 10 on the Top Pop Catalog Albums chart in the United States for the past three weeks, selling more than 2.3 million albums since the singer's death, including 1.1 million over the past seven days. At a time when most contemporary stars struggle to notch sales of more than 2 or 3 million, the numbers are impressive, but they're even better when sales across the globe are factored in. According to the Los Angeles Times, an unidentified source with knowledge of sales figures for the catalog said that more than 9 million Jackson albums have been sold worldwide since June 25.

While Sony Music, which controls Jackson's solo adult catalog, would not comment to the Times or MTV News on sales figures, a spokeswoman for the label did not dispute the 9 million sales figure. In addition to ruling over the U.S. catalog charts, Jackson's albums have perched atop similar charts in France, Germany, Australia and England over the past three weeks.

"We're seeing a real outpouring from fans and consumers who are looking to connect and get past what's happened — the tragedy of his death — through attaching themselves to his music," Gary Arnold, senior entertainment officer for Best Buy, told the Times. Arnold said fans aren't just buying Jackson's global breakthrough Thriller, but rather a broad range of the singer's music, from the early Jackson 5 material to his later solo albums.

Considering the many unresolved issues around Jackson's estate, his cause of death, the custody of his three children and a potential all-star tribute concert in England later this year, Arnold predicted sales would remain strong, and possibly surge, through Christmas.

Though Amazon.com doesn't typically reveal sales figures, a spokesperson for the company said customer response to Jackson's death has been unprecedented, resulting in more orders for Jackson CDs and MP3s in the first 24 hours after his death than in the previous 11 years the Amazon music store has been open.

Even jukeboxes are seeing a huge uptick in Jackson action, with leading digital jukebox company TouchTunes reporting that the singer's songs were ordered up nearly 1 million times on its 38,000 jukeboxes since his death. Also seeking to cash in on the surge of interest, the British stage musical "Thriller Live" announced that the tribute show would relaunch in Europe this month and hit several U.S. cities over the next year. Jackson cover band Who's Bad also quickly booked a North American tour that will keep them on the road through November.

While bootleggers were quick to seize on the interest in Jackson memorabilia, AEG Live, the promoter of Jackson's This Is It series of concerts at London's O2 Arena, began selling the official merchandise intended for the 50-show run last week. The company has also discussed mounting a version of the show Jackson was preparing before the end of the year, as well as releasing a DVD of his rehearsal footage.
"We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Yeah, 30x platinum, tripple diamond, and a new American best seller again. I actually read the entire article after I posted. wink

so, what, the claim that the Eagles' GH being the highest selling album of all time is based on RIAA platinum certifications?

that's odd. and it's only dependent on the record label forking up the dough to get the sales certified, which most labels do only every few years (if ever).

Thriller is the best selling album of all time world wide as stated by the Guiness Book of Records. For the past few years, Eagles Greatest Hits has been the best selling album in America by a small margin over Thriller. Looks like Thriller is about to surpass Eagles Greatest Hits if it hasnt already within the past 3 weeks.

Why didn't Michael Jackson doctor call for help, asks Tito Jackson

19/07/2009
Dr. Conrad Murray - Michael Jackson's DR. (pic: AP)

Grieving Tito Jackson claimed Dr Conrad Murray’s dithering as he tried to resuscitate his stricken brother wasted vital minutes that might have cost him his life.

He accused the physician of not acting quickly enough to get help and said his methods of revival were far from the standards expected of a qualified doctor.

Tito claimed Dr Murray began flapping when Jacko collapsed at his Los Angeles home. The 55-year-old said: “My opinion is that he panicked when my brother didn’t wake up.

“I think the doctor probably figured he was in trouble and he tried to revive Michael.

“He did have a pulse but he couldn’t bring him back.

“I don’t know what the time lapse was between the doctor finding him and when he called paramedics.

“But I believe if he had immediately called for help we might still have my brother here today, he would definitely still be alive.”

Tito also accused Dr Murray of not carrying out proper resuscitation methods. It has been claimed the medic did cardiac massage on the dying star as he lay on a soft bed instead of a hard surface – the accepted practice.

He added: “The CPR attempt is one of the things I noticed that was very strange.

“CPR is one of the first things you learn to do as a doctor, and you don’t do it on a soft bed. And Tito also accused Dr Murray of “disappearing” in the wake of Jacko’s death. He said: “I’m not sure if he went with Michael to the hospital.

“What is true is that he has gone into hiding, the first thing he did was contact lawyers.” Dr Murray is said to have made “incriminating” statements during interviews with police.

But yesterday the physician claimed he was being made a scapegoat for Jacko’s shock death. He has returned to his home in Houston, Texas, to be with his family and denied going into hiding.

He also denied administering any drugs that would have killed the King of Pop.

Dr Murray added: “I have lost a good friend. I did not give Michael anything that should have led to his death. I don’t know anything more than anyone else about what killed Michael, but it wasn’t me.

“It’s human nature to try to find a scapegoat but if I was the focus of a criminal probe I would have been told by now.” Dr Murray is under 24-hour guard. He fears he will be targeted by the singer’s fans, who see him as responsible.

A friend said: “Dr Murray did all he could to resuscitate Michael. He is in a terrible situation.”

Tito hit out at the doctor during an interview on Spanish TV. Asked if he thought Jacko may have been murdered, he replied: “Anything is possible.

“It’s a very strong word, the police are investigating what happened. Until there is some kind of revelation, I don’t want to comment. Everything is on the table.”

Jackson’s sister La Toya has claimed her brother was murdered. But Tito said: “Everyone has their opinion.

“Maybe she knows things I don’t know, but I wouldn’t call it that. I would be furious, knowing there are fiends who would want to do something horrible to somebody who was so marvellous.”

Jackson is thought to have been killed by the hospital anaesthetic drug propofol.

A senior detective involved in the case said it was “unlikely” any doctor would be charged with murdering Jackson.

But he admitted if propofol caused his death, prosecutors have discussed charges including involuntary manslaughter.

The officer said: “There’s nothing I have been told that would suggest a murder charge. It’s so remote and so unsupported by the facts as they’ve been gathered.

“The doctors are not suspects. They are repositories of medical history. There’s been a high level of co-operation.”

The Jackson brothers are said to be in talks with AEG to perform a number of concerts at the 02 Arena in London – on some of the dates booked for Jackson’s comeback gigs.

so, what, the claim that the Eagles' GH being the highest selling album of all time is based on RIAA platinum certifications?

that's odd. and it's only dependent on the record label forking up the dough to get the sales certified, which most labels do only every few years (if ever).

Im not sure what else we can go with other than official certifications by a reputable agency.

yeah, I guess so, since comparing pre and post soundscan sales data is almost impossible.

I guess that's why these 2 were neck and neck and kept passing each other for a few years there. When the relationship with MJ went sour, they probably stopped bothering. Also, they usually do it around the time a *new* album is released to add to the old figures to help promote the new one. They were probably getting ready to throw a few million on the heap to include the Speacial Edition and Thriller 25 versions.

Anyone know the last time Sony had MJ's catalog, specifically Thriller certified?
